Wow, I thought I was the only one who liked Dogma the most lol Mine would look something like: 1. Dogma 2. DIM 3. Spermargarita 4. NIL 5. Disorder

Even though I’m sick of core-influenced metal with synths, and have been for years, I find the GazettE to be a guilty pleasure I’ve stuck with since DIM and have been enjoying them more and more as time goes by. They’re fun. Yeah, so they recycle riffs occasionally (I think it largely works); but their sound is distinct, so listening to them feels like a refreshing and enjoyable experience. The one thing I love about core-influenced metal is the gnarly down-tuned chugging, especially when it gets technical, and I think GazettE does an awesome job with that. Their songwriting seems to have improved as well with their guitar riffs being far more “substantive” than the old days of Discharge and Headache Man, no doubt a result of their developing western-metal influences.

Well, one of these days he'll come here asking for a sample and there it will be!
-
I don't think any samples have come out yet....unless I'm stupid, which is entirely possible.
-
This is probably a stupid question; but is the NINTH blu-ray region-locked? Probably, right? Are GazettE's other blu-ray releases that way?

The only thing I can really say negative about this tune other than the intro is the band’s reliance on that specific half-step chord progression they play in legitimately every single heavy song they’ve ever done. At 43 seconds in the song it’s as clear as day as the band strums (I believe) G-F#. It’s a staple in most Gazette songs which indicates a lack of originality; but here they play it in a way where at least it’s not 100% identical to the rest of their output, maybe just 90% identical. A lot of bands, especially Western metal core bands like Bring Me the Horizon have used that progression before, but I’ve never seen a band rely on it so much as this band.
-
I REALLY don't like that intro; but there are some excellent changes in there, and I typically like their new style, so it's decent.
-
It's been down for everyone, I believe, because when I refresh some of the page loads; but it's taking forever.
-
Well this was out of nowhere for me. Cool! I had no idea a new song was dropping today. I hope they can get the site working again so we can hear this new song.

They absolutely are sold because that’s how the Batsu guys got some of theirs, it just so happens that trading is the most popular form of exchange. At least one of them has a connect in Japan who knows a few people that trade bootlegs. For people in the west that want them, there’s a price.
-
I imagine it was one of the new songs they've been playing live recently, so I bet SOMEONE has a shitty cell-phone quality bootleg of it. They're probably charging $500 for it too.

Thanks for the recs! All I have so far is the 3DISC Best and Coupling Collection and thought those two would be a great entry into the band. I'll make sure to dig into these soon! I've really been enjoying Kouichi's guitar work so far, definitely a highlight for me.

Laputa was a Japanese nagoya kei rock band, active from 1993 to 2004. The band chose its name from the flying island in Gulliver's Travels and tried to portray a similar unrealistic view of the world with their performance. Their 1997 album Emadera was named one of the top albums from 1989-1998 in a 2004 issue of the music magazine Band Yarouze. I had never heard of these guys before and stumbled across them after listening to Dir en grey's "Ash" and their song "舌" was queued afterwards. What is everyone's thoughts on this band? Like them? Hate them? Favorite releases? They seem pretty interesting and I was looking to check them out later!

Careful what you wish for! I'm still holding out hope for Garden.....

I think I'm starting to look forward to Ash just by virtue of it pissing everyone here off. Years ago, when the Hageshisa single was released, I wanted a Kiri to Mayu remake because I knew how good that song could be with their new sound, and I think that will be the case for Ash as well. If you don't like Metal, you're not going to like this.

I can understand wanting to fit another guitar part in there to stand out; but please make it more tasteful than THAT!

Same. I was deeply critical of this album and was for years. I guess I still am in some ways (Die's section in the intro of Midwife is still god awful); but after revisiting their discog, I have been able to enjoy it way more. For me the highlights are: Un Deux, Uroko, Tosei, Rinkaku, Magayasou, The Inferno, and Revelation of Mankind. Hell, maybe this is just an extension of Stockholm Syndrome having listened to this album so many times over the past couple of weeks, but I don't hate Sustain the Untruth anymore either. I'm not much of a fan because it very much feels like "Pop Metal" to me along with Chain Repulsion -- quick, straight-forward songs with catchy hooks -- but I also don't think it's as bad as I initially felt.

Even though I enjoy old Dir en grey, allow me to put it this way: when I want to introduce people to Dir en grey, I show them newer material from 2006 and on and avoid all of the old stuff because there is very little resemblance between the two and can lead people to think these are two entirely separate bands. One friend once asked me if there were two Dir en grey bands, I said no, why would he think that? Because he did a Google search and saw pictures of them from the old VK days and thought they were a girl band. I dont necessarily dislike old Dir en grey, but as the times change it feels increasingly outdated even though I still enjoy it largely for nostalgia reasons.

Great news! I wonder if it’s one of the new songs they played recently. I’m anxious for more news!

tbh I want to try some of Ruki's cologne or whatever the hell he's been doing.

HOW FUCKING DARE YOU Now excuse me while I rant about how terrible it is you have an opinion that differs from mine. For real though, Rinkaku is pretty fucking great. Kyo’s voice is good; but it’s the instrumentation that does it for me. And is that troll really posting with a different account now? lmao, how embarrassing.

Easy with the inferiority complex, sweetie, you’re embarrassing yourself. I never said my statements triggered people. Let’s not forget: you started pissing and moaning because one person on the internet said they liked a song. Just one problem: you decided to weigh your opinion on a topic which you have 0 knowledge of, so I had to correct you. You legit thought the Gaika and Inferno outros were the same when they have 0 similarities other than the fact musical notes are being played in 4/4 time. You only said this because Dir en greys new material triggers you, so you tried to pretend you knew shit to slap down other people that like the music. But again, it’s hard to discuss music with someone that has 0 knowledge of music and who couldn’t tell the difference between a C major chord and their own asshole. I know why you lashed out at me. It’s painfully obvious. Within music communities (especially VK), an individuals perceived status is linked to how much they know about the band. You wanted to fit in and impress people with your supposed “knowledge”, so you legitimately got upset when I drew that “knowledge” into question. Simply put: I hurt your ego, and you lashed out in an attempt to protect it. I find it odd you would liken me to a child when I’m not the one who started crying when someone else said they liked a song that I didn’t. But of course, your fragile ego needs protecting, so believe whatever nonsense you’d like: not like that hasn’t stopped you before, now has it? 🤔
-
Which legitimately no one said. I don’t know why The Inferno, or new Dir en grey material in general, triggers you as much as it does. It literally set you off into being a passive aggressive asshole out of nowhere when I commented on how much I enjoy the song. I get it, you’re upset I corrected you in our conversation a few days ago and this was your chance to get back at me, but please try to act less petty, ESPECIALLY when you evidently don’t know a single thing about music and the only term you remotely know is “motif” to make up for your lack of musical vocabulary.

Don’t forget! They also both contain musical notes! Fuckin self-plagiarists!!!
