日本語勉強に頑張れ! We need more people on the younger side of the spectrum - all the people like me who got into visual kei in their tween weeaboo phases are in their 20s now ( TДT)

Well, it's hugely affected my life since I got into it about seven years ago. It was my first proper exposure to foreign language music; I was absolutely fascinated by how the language sounded, which made me discover my affinity for languages, and now I'm doing a degree in Linguistics with a minor in Japanese thanks, VK! I love how dramatic it is. The old stuff is all brooding and dark, the newer stuff is all in-your-face. People complain that VK is all sounding the same nowadays, but there really is a band to suit any mood. The first time I listened to VK, it was Hizaki Grace Project (no idea how I found them first out of everyone I could have heard, but whatever.) Looked up some videos and fell in love with the whole style of it. Plus I like that the bassist is usually actually doing his own thing and not just providing low-end to the guitar riff, unlike a lot of other genres >.> I do music production as a hobby and this drives me crazy when I listen a lot of metal. also hot guys

I think it only works with Meto because he's the "weird character" in Mejibray. Got to have an overall aura of mysteriousness otherwise you just come across as Joe Dumbass who has nothing to say imo

Well, shit. I only just got into them. Hopefully their vocalist joins some other band or something, I adore his voice.

I swear that synth is going to be the "what were they thinking" thing that we look back on in 5 years.

Preview sounds pretty good to me, looking forward to this!
  8. ^ The vocalist isn't absolutely terrible... could they not find a drummer, guitarist and bassist instead of having those General MIDI sounds? I know it was 1995 but yikes.

I admire that j-rock bands bash out songs constantly, but only if they at least do something different or develop their sound as they go on. It's easy to get burnt out on following a band if they're just recording the same song with different lyrics and a different synth preset every time.

Well, 11 years is an impressive run for a VK band... Still, ( TДT)

Ah, I'm not really familiar with them. Yeah, this really isn't very well integrated. You're either doing the traditional imagery thing or you're not, don't half-ass it :/

The compilation thing kind of annoys me because I like Morrigan and really want them to be something great. Sadly the profit margins are a pretty big part of any music scene that isn't completely DIY like underground hardcore punk, because it sustains the bands and the labels. I'm more inclined to support bands that don't pull silly shit to wring the money out of fangirls' pockets, though. Just release new music every so often and let your musical talents and showmanship pay for it. I love traditional instrumentation and concepts in VK (Kiryu being one of my all-time favourite VK bands) because I love that kind of thing in general. But I agree, it can be done extremely poorly. I haven't heard the song where avelcain did it, I'm gonna look for that now because I feel like cringing.
  13. ^ I actually really like this one ヽ(´ー`)ノ
  14. Please lock this if there's already a thread like this, I didn't notice one. This thread is for things that come up often in visual kei that you personally can't stand. Can be related to the music itself, fashion, song names, artist names, whatever. For me, it's whispering. It just sounds so weird to me, it's usually some heavy djent-like rhythm with the vocalist whispering over it, it doesn't feel like it fits. Also, when a vocalist is a really good singer but a bad screamer, and the band still does entire songs where he does nothing but scream. Like, you should know your strengths and weaknesses (;´Д`) I usually skip those unless there's some amazing guitar work or something.
  15. I've been studying Japanese properly for about two years now. It's actually because of j-rock that I discovered my affinity for languages, because it was my first real exposure to foreign-language media and I was always fascinated by how the language sounded. Now I'm doing a major in linguistics with a minor in Japanese, and Chinese classes for extra credit
