No me pesan esos años. Pero cuando voy caminando por la calle y veo a una niñita de 14 años con un parche de gazette o dir en grey me siento un poco viejo y me da nostalgia por los viejos tiempos.

Zein reacted to Saishu in Satsuki (砂月) – Apocalypse EP
Welcome to the biggest surprise of 2016 so far.  If anyone asked me a few years ago which j-rock artist do I think will dabble in the djent genre of metal, I'd probably say Dir en grey or Gazette, but Satsuki? The guy with the angelic voice and less than brutal growls?  And yet here we are with one of his two March 19 releases, Apocalypse. This is a four track EP, the other, Eclipse, is a fuller 9 tracks. But for right now we're dealing with Apocalypse, the heavier of the two releases.

It opens with "Reincarnation", a moody intro that gives off a vibe of a dystopian post-apocalyptic society, then it leads into the title track, which is a surprising take on bands like Meshuggah, Tesseract, and Periphery. The riffs are thick and chunky, but there are hints of haunting melodies buried beneath the chaos. Then Satsuki's trademark angelic vocals come in and it almost feels like home.

But then "Burning Out" comes in and we hear Satsuki's new and improved harsh vocals. A vast improvement over his slightly perturbed Cookie Monster vocals in Rentrer en Soi's final live. Satsuki clearly got some coaching on how to growl correctly.

The EP ends with "Revelation", a track that could have fit in on the latest Meshuggah album. Satsuki (and the band) seem to understand how djent works, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's pulled off. Great syncopated grooves and head nodding riffs.

The only problem here is the production (which also applies to Satsuki's other release "Eclipse", but I'll get to that another time). Again, everything is mixed too loud. I listened to this via high quality streaming on Tidal with Sennheiser ear buds, and it all just sounded flat and lacking in dynamics. I shouldn't have my phone volume at less than half way and it sounds like I've got it full blast. This will always be a pet peeve of mine.

Overall I'm pleased, especially since Satsuki's solo career has been less than impressive, merely cranking out toothless and nondescript J-pop/rock ever since RES disbanded. Here's to hoping Satsuki has finally found some direction.

So before i start i would like to say this is for the first time i ENJOYED all song on a SINGLE release from any band , i know many will say this is the continuation of DOGMA and i must say WHY NOT??

    UGLY
Title song of the SINGLE i just cannot believe how RUKI improved his ENGLISH, i'm a hardcore Gazette fan so i stick whith the band for a few years now and i never thought that i might actually understand the lyrics from him is it me or he likes to curse a lot in his songs?xD Anyway the breakdowns on this song are epic, i love the SOLO from URUHA. The Guitar rifs ar just so agresive that you can feel the atmosphere all over the place.I just watched the PV and i gotta say now i understand what its like on a GAZETTE concert and i believe that RUKI said they wanted to show it in this PV. Chorus to this song is just cool. Love this song Fxxck TRAITORS!!

    DEPRAVITY
When i first heard this song i immidietly said to myself this could easely be the TITLE SONG itself it has the same feeling like UGLY agressive, powerful, fast. This song is gonna be fun when they play it LIVE. To be honest i played this song like 100x times and again the breakdown is one of the HIGLIGHTS and i can see why so many people like it. Kai makes a good job in this song love the drums in here and i absolutely love RUKIS screaming in here solos are perfect to it! YOU SHOULD DIE!

    GODDESS
If someone thought they would end it with ballad they were wrong. AND IM GLAD! A powerful melodic ending to this single.I love the whispering in this that slowly goes trought RUKIS high VOICE. Again very good job from the band how to keep you on your toes till the end of the song i love tha dark vibe in this!!

OVER ALL FOR ME ONE OF THE BEST SINGLES THEY EVER RELEASED.CANT WAIT WAIT WHAT THEY ARE UP TO WHIT ANOTHER MOVEMENT!!

Zein reacted to CAT5 in MH FEATURED POLL #31: Do you believe in (romantic) love?
I certainly do, although it's not always a stroll in the park. In fact, it's quite a gamble. There are endless amounts of people walking around with all kinds of emotional and psychological baggage...people that entertain a variety of fears that hinder them from forming any meaningful relationships...people afraid of pain, heartbreak, infidelity, abandonment, you name it...Fuck that, though. Pain is a part of life. I think most everyone gets their hearts stumped on at one point, but you can't allow your heart to turn to stone because of that. Shit happens, but you've got to remain open, because when you find that person that reciprocates your feelings as clearly and strongly as you do...someone that you KNOW you're eye to eye with - no bullshit, no games, no doubts - It'll be worth it. But you can't be half-assed about it. I firmly believe that you've got to give love to receive it. Simple as that.

Well, I liked the disc but to said the truth, Hora + Kaya are a match, so I'm with you Shanet . I like Hora, he has too much talent and since Schwartz Stein I really loved his work. His sound is unique and you'll find a incredibly mix of sounds that makes his music so fascinating. I like hows always so dark XD and different in so many ways to the actual j-music.

    And yes, I recommend this.
    Thanks for the Review!

Oh, well I actually listen to japanese music since long long long time ago -8 years (?) maybe. The first band I met was The Gazette but by that time, I hated them XDDD.
The band that make me fall for Japanese music and Visual Kei is Malice Mizer, god, I love them and of course all the visual kei of old school. Then appered Dir En Grey and end of story XD.

Actually the bands I follow the most are Dir En Grey, the new project of Kyo-Sukekyo. Nocturnal blood lust, Mejibray (they have something D:) And as  you can se, the Eroguro scene plus kote kote or just j-rock (Luna sea is another of my adictions XD) anyway I love all Japanese-rock, (not that much Oshare but they have some pretty interesting bands)

thanks for the welcome! Hope see you around n.n
