kai_desu got a reaction from Mr Bacon in Letter from the Developer Part I
In order to motivate my ass to work on this, I've created the following DS category/suforums here on the forum. The intention behind this, at least for the moment, is to continuously post updates on the development of DS as well as get feedback from every one here.

I want this to be a fairly open project moving forward - and am even open to anyone actually helping me develop DS. I've moved from using a custom developed CMS to using PyroCMS - which frees me up from having to code out core features which was eating up most of my development time.

Some of you may ask "Why not just use WordPress or Wikimedia?", and the simple answer is - control. DS will be more than just a database of Japanese bands and music. It'll be a community that revolves around you - the user. There are a ton of features and ideas that I'd like to push out that would be very difficult to do with WordPress (and especially Wikimedia, which I honestly feel is a horribly outdated platform).

So, I'll keep this first post short. I'll post more threads going over DS, provide screenshots of its current progress, and so on and so forth.

See you in the next post!

Being one of the people who's been here for years, and being one who listens to kpop at that, I still think this isn't a good idea.

This forum is supposed to be about Japanese music, right? We already have a section where we upload rock music that isn't necessarily Japanese, but it still is Asian. Isn't that good enough? Also, it's been years since this forum was only about all the VK. I get most of my Japanese rock music from this place, and I haven't been really listening to VK in years.

There are a lot of blogs and websites out there sharing Kpop music. Now I'm not against listening to kpop, but it would result in a surge of kpop kids who, if you've seen anything at all, are pretty much brain dead (not everyone, but I'm sure you know what I mean) and you'd get threads full of oppa oppa ooppppaaaaaaa. Aren't there already enough websites for this? Call me narrowminded or ignorant or anything you'd want for that opinion, but as someone who's seen enough of the kpop world, I'd like to see Monochrome as some kind of website that still keeps to its original idea.

Besides, how could we have split forums for every genre for instance, when so many rock bands are such a mix of thousands at once?

I don't see why you people think this game is going to go F2P - they've even stated that they will not be going F2P in interviews before. I honestly hate F2P, because as I've stated in another thread about this game - it filters out a lot of the players who just play to be assholes. Now granted, of course there will always be assholes who have money - but at least the game isn't full of 13 year olds.

I mean, jesus, FFXI is still P2P.

    LOL.

    But to the topic.

(Unfortunately) you can't really define a band in it's entirety within a certain genre. I think the only way you can get away with this to some degree is defining each band album into a genre - which isn't a part of any music software that I know of.

As Arith said, do whatever works for you. There really is no right or wrong in this matter, it's something that will help you identify a bands sound and relation to others.

I personally tag 99% of my stuff as just "J-Rock" to keep it separate from my other music (which isn't that much honestly). I do this only because I like being able to listen to just Japanese music at times, and it's easy to just select the J-Rock genre and hit play.

But people, for the love of god please stop tagging the genre as visual kei. kthxbai.

Anything regarding SOPA is still relevant but it may not all still be true. Big businesses are still trying to find ways to crack down on piracy and that won't change until strict anti-piracy laws pass or these companies die out/move towards models that provide that consumer what they want easily at a reasonable price. Which way it will go is still up in the air.

When it comes to "earning money", it's really hard to say who is losing how much money, since we really don't know how much the artist makes versus how much the label makes versus how much it cost to make and produce music. Since we don't know that, we can't talk about the absolute cost of piracy. We just know that piracy relatively trades money for exposure.

Okay okay, I know you have the same keyboard as I do. I can't get the display to show foobar though, it works with iTunes and Winamp but not foobar. Any idea how to get it to work? I googled it and it says that it's a setting within foobar but the instructions were kinda vague.

This is quite pointless. Just saying.

And you shouldn't just run around and add people without their consensus. Yeah it's the internet and nothing is safe, but what if said person intentionally does not want to be included in your list?

Arith was also not posting here to be added to the list - so I don't know why you're getting upset over the rules; she clearly understands them. This is an open forum, where it's users are allowed to freely post their opinions on whatever is at hand. She was making a point. This "census" will be vastly incomplete and inaccurate.

If you're curious to how many users we have in each country/whatever, could have simply asked.

There's also already a feature in the forum that would display which country you're in automatically in each of your posts - but it's not enabled as some people like a bit of privacy.

No prob! If that works fine, you can put those 7,000 songs into the same folder, and then right click on the folder to edit with mp3tag from the context menu to remove ID3v1 at once.

If you're not sure if ID3v2 tags are written in your files already, try those settings and select all the files and click on the "Save" button to save them all without editing anything. It will create ID3v2 tags. Now you will have ID3v1 and 2 together, you can simply remove the ID3v1 tags just by clicking on the "Remove Tag" button. However, be careful while doing this and CTRL+Z is your best friend as long as you don't close the program.

The reason why you should use ID3v2.3 UTF-16 not 2.4 UTF-8 is because it's universally supported by most devices/applications while the latter can't be read by some programs (it will be something like "blank or untagged" files.)

For me, I remove ID3v1 and use ID3v2.3 UTF-16 instead, and everything will be in Unicode on every computer that supports it (Windows XP and newer).
fb2k reads ID3v1 (which doesn't support Unicode) before ID3v2, so this is why I should remove it.

In addition, I use the field "ALBUMARTIST" for v.a. albums to tag something like オムニバス so that fb2k can group all the tracks together.
And iPod users should set the field "COMPILATION" to 1 if the field "ALBUM ARTIST" exists.

You can try these settings, and test on a messed up album just by clicking on the "Remove Tag" button. It will remove ID3v1 and APE if they exist while ID3v2 still remains.
