  1. You can't use Japanese characters for your username. You can, however, use it for your display name which you can change in your user settings (on Deadeyes-star).

This is deliberate as having a Japanese name for your login name can cause issues and lock you out of your account. This is the same for other sites, on top of the fact that their website and database need to be configured to store Japanese characters.

  2. Kai I have the same problem Ryu had. My username is the same I use here.

Your account has been activated. Hotmail just doesn't seem to like us apparently.

If anyone else is running into this issue with using a hotmail account, shoot me a PM and I'll get you activated.

I advise everyone who has used a hotmail account to change your email to a non-hotmail email address after you've logged in.

  3. sweet I did not got an activation code Maybe hotmail blocks it? and it's not in my spamfolder.

Hmm, seems like most users who sign up with hotmail are having problems, which I'll need to look into. Whats your username you signed up with? I can get your account activated manually.

  4. DS is finally live! We're a bit exhausted at the moment as we've been finalizing a lot of things today in anticipation of the launch. So forgive me for not having much to say right now!

If you'd like to read more, we have a fairly detailed post of what's coming up next in development here: http://deadeyes-star.com/blog/2013/12/introduction-to-deadeyesstar-1

I'd also like to introduce our staff! Be sure to give them some love!

  5. I'm with Teletubby on this one. I love the iPhone 5 headphones (even though I use an android!)

But then again I'd never spend $100+ on a pair of headphones. My money can be spent on better things. In the end it's simply a matter of different priorities / interests.

  6. It's also come to my attention that our initial post and the listing of positions meant you were dead-locked into whatever position you applied for.

    This is not the case.

We simply want to know what people are most interested in contributing, so we can get a sense of how DS will grow and what direction it will most expand. No one is deadlocked into the position they "apply" for. Doing the one and same job gets incredibly boring, and we don't want this to be boring or tedious!

  7. It's come to my attention that I may have put the standards a little too high here with the minimum ability to read hiragana/katakana. This prerequisite has been removed. So if you don't know how to read hiragana or katakana, feel free to apply for the data entry and writer positions. I know this whole application process may seem a little strict, but in honesty we're really laid back. This isn't about whipping volunteers into doing free labor, this is about building a community striving for the same goals to bring accurate information to fans across the globe.

Also, I've opened this thread if any of you have questions about anything pertaining to the "hiring" process or staff positions. Please do not post your application here though; continue PM'ing them to me.

Anyone may apply, whether you have a yellow/blue/red/green/pink/whatever name or not, or have been a member here for a day or three years - It's open to everyone.

  8. The time has finally arrived. While we're wrapping the last few items up on our to-do list, we are going to go ahead and open the gates for the first wave of "beta" staff members. At this time we don't have any inclination to how many people we'll initially select within this first wave (perhaps around 6 people, depending on what roles people apply for). If you're interested, continue on!

So, some of the crucial things that we'll be looking for:

    • Proficiency in English
    • Honesty
    • Friendly and willingness to work with others with various religious/cultural/ethnic backgrounds

If you meet (or exceed!) at all of the points above, great! We'd love to have you be a part of us. Below you will find a list of positions we currently have open, as well as any extra requirements needed for the position:

    Data Entry

The one is pretty simple. A data entry position entails entering band, artist, and discography information into the main database for display on DS. No previous experience required.

    Skills Needed

    • Decent writing capabilities
    • Research skills

    Notes

We do not allow pre-written information (from Wikipedia and the like) to be directly copy/pasted, word for word as biographical information. Decent writing skills are required to make something coherent and grammatically correct based off of research done for each band.

    Writer

Writers have a pretty far range. They may write articles about bands and their history, reviews on albums, events they've been to (we'll look into the ability to obtain press passes), fashion or style trends, and pretty much anything else relevant to the site's interest.

    Skills Needed

    • Excellent writing capabilities
    • Research skills

    Notes

Please include examples of past work along with your application, and tell us what you're interested in writing about.

    Translator

We do not pump things through Google translate here. We have real people dissecting and translating Japanese material. It can be horribly painful and time consuming, so we love our translators very much! (we love all our staff, really) This job will include translation of song lyrics, interviews, articles, etc.

    Skills Needed

    • Excellent writing capabilities
    • Research skills

    Notes

Please include examples of past work along with your application, and tell us what you're most interested in translating.

So if any of these positions tickles your fancy, please fill out the following form and PM it to me. This will be open until we have either selected the first wave of staff, or the site going live on December 30th - whichever comes first.

  9. From what I hear, Polyphony Digital had been working on both Gran Turismo 6 (PS3) and Gran Turismo 7 (PS4) simultaneously, with 7 having a possible release next year (2014).

Just Google it and you'll get a ton of interviews/articles about it.

  10. Companies never make a justifiable profit off of consoles. They make their revenue off peripherals and games. This is the case for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

Console profit drives upwards after time when the parts needed to build them drop in price.

  11. Yes. I am a member. I know how it works.

You don't need to access the store to download previously obtained PS+ games. On the PS3 just go to your transaction history (under the account section of the main menu) and you'll find all the games you downloaded there to re-download.

  12. I don't quite understand what you're trying to achieve Ito? Saving Playstation Plus games? The explicit reason why you can't is because... you're required to be a playstation plus member to play/access those games in the first place. As long as you are, you will not lose access to those games regardless if you're on the PS4 or not.

The reason why there's no backwards compatibility with the PS4 (currently) is because it's running on a completely different processing chip (it's an x86/64 chip now, so essentially its a highly optimized PC) than it's predecessors were. Older games we're not developed or designed to run on this CPU architecture.

This is one of the reasons why the Gaikai service is so important, and I am thrilled that Sony has kept backwards compatibility in mind and in a way that wouldn't limit what they could do with the PS4.

With that, I do wonder how they're going to handle the service when it comes out next year. I'm hoping that games that you've purchased through the PSN will be available for you to play without again paying for it through Gaikai. I think it's already given as well that any playstation plus games you can access, you'll be able to play without hassle via the Gaikai service (goes hand-in-hand with being a subscriber, no?)

  13. I pre-ordered mine during E3 (watched it live at home). Amazon shipped it along with Assassins Creed 4 out yesterday and will be here by Monday evening. I'm so fucking excited!

I'm super excited about the vita cross-play ability as well. I don't see why people are bitching about the fact that Sony has been saying it most likely won't play optimally over the internet when you're out and about. The fact that I can pick up my vita and instantly pick up where I was playing on TV is amazing, even just around my apartment.

Also. Gaikai. I'm interested in seeing how the service will play out. I am a bit bummed about a lack of backwards compatibility with PS3 games, but if Gaikai can handle it streaming to my console and it's a fair price, I'll definitely go for it.

  14. Would you just be sticking to a certain genre within Japanese bands? Or will you start off with specific genres and then try to expand out to ALL Japanese music?

This is a bit of a difficult question to answer. Our system will be open to a lot of genre's, but it's not built for J-Pop or the like. A good rule of thumb is pretty much anything you see being discussed or shared here on MH will be included in the database.

JaME, while a great introductory resource, is nowhere near complete and from the sounds of your ambition, this is going to shape up to be one of the most amazing J-Music databases on the web.  I can't wait to see your final product.  THe site design and layout are very sharp and asthetically appealing based on the preview.

Best of luck!  I am sure it will be a challenge placing all of the information togehter and keeping it updated, but with the support of a community like MH, I am sure it can be as great as our collective efforts can make it.

Thank you for the encouraging words! This won't be possible without the collective efforts of the J-Music community, and I aim to create the necessary means to make collaboration and structured information easy to maintain and build.
