Health and Fitness?

I don't really know where this should go, but I guess this is general discussion. What do you guys do (if anything) to assure good health and good fitness? For a while now I have slowly been pursuing a body building career, and have since re-shaped my diet from intaking wasteful calories to a disciplined regimen. This regimen usually focuses on a large protein intake to assure maximum growth of my muscles before and after work outs. This is essentially what it looks like:

Basic Regimen:

breakfast: protein pancakes (ingredients: cup of oatmeal, bananas, blueberries, cinnamon, 1 egg, low-fat maple syrup)

meal 2: yogurt with almonds, 20 oz. of water

Workout: 1 - 2 hours (depending on the day), mixing xtend (an amino acid) with my water to maximize growth and repair

Meal 3: Protein shake (one scoop of Gold Standard Whey protein mixed with Gatorade)

Meal 4: 6 oz of meat of choice (usually beef or chicken), 1/2 cup of whole wheat pasta, 20 oz. of water

Meal 5: mixed nuts or a cup of yogurt

sleep

how about everyone else? Something you guys are doing? I would love to hear about it because I'm always looking for meal alternatives! =D!

oh and: this should be just a very general thread about health and stuff. if anyone has any health questions, concerns or anything, we should all talk about them. This would be fun!

Eh, for the most part I'm blessed with a very healthy body (my doctor was like "You're the healthiest person I've had all year!") and I have a pretty high metabolism and have never weighted anything more then 135lb. I do eat a fairly healthy diet and nothing that strict but I've never had to worry about calories and stuff like that. However my boyfriend found out a few months ago he's fat on the inside (cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetus) so he's been making an effort to eat a low sodium, cholesterol diet and I have adopted it as well. I figure that if we're both following the same diet, it'll help him lower it. It didn't take to much effort to change our diet though, he has a sweet tooth so he just had to cut back on the sweets.

Typical meals we have on a regular basis!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

very healthy!

You say your boyfriend has diabetes? What stage is it? Is it to the point where he needs insulin or is it maintainable through healthy eating habits?

I'm kind of... a high metabolism miracle. Nothing about my lifestyle is healthy. I pig out on food that is terrible for you while smoking away at my cigarettes and chugging me some coffee. But I do wanna start being healthier. I'm tired of being skeletal so I'm thinking of starting to work out. I've been attempting push ups for a few days. I collapse after like 30. xD

It's all quality, not quantity bro. I'll be at the gym, and I'll see a guy benching 70 lbs and doing like...30 reps. He'll then just stand up, be content, and walk away and do something else. This is something you want to avoid. This is because you want to continuously challenge your muscles, not just fatigue them. It's all about intensity. Whenever I do chest work out (bench), I start off with a warm up set. Then I move up a little bit. And on the 3rd set I hit my max and try to go as much as I can before I need someone to help me re-rack. From there, I start dropping down weight. I'll do a few more reps, then drop down, few more, drop down, and keep doing that till I can't even lift 70 lbs. It really breaks down muscle tissue and works very well!

So if you're doing push ups, have someone sit on your back, or put something on you that multiplies your body weight. For each set, target between 10 - 12 reps and you should be set. Also: you're not gonna get some sexy arms and pecs unless you up your protein intake. Brotein is where it's at, so start eating semi healthy or else you won't do much for yourself. There's guys I know that take steroids and work out, but eat mcdonalds every day and don't grow one bit. It's all about the diet. You don't have to be too strict, but just be weary of what you eat.

generally, i ate little but often to keep my cholesterol rates.

I am having fast metabolism also, so never worries about keeping weight.

If any, i'd like to add some though D:

Anyway, my eating routines would be something like this:

In the morning, i either get oatmeal or muesli with raisins

or corn flakes with some sliced fruits with milk.

And some juices, water and yoghurt too. If i will have a long day, i'd get a heavier

breakfast, toast or rolls with bacon and eggs. Can be poached, fried [over easy or sunny side up]

rarely omelette, cos it's too heavy with all the fillings, though i like omelette :(

For lunch, i'm already happy by getting me some trail mix and S'bucks vanilla latte.

And dinner, i'll get fruits. Apples, Oranges, Berries, Kiwis,

anything but Avocado, not very often having this one fruit,

cos it got very high cholesterol.

Sometimes, when having big dinner, will get some meat and fish.

Seafood, i am very picky about it. Definitely rarely (or not at all) get crabs.

Since crabs very high in bad cholesterol.

Fish is good, Squid/Cuttlefish/Calamari is good,

Prawns sometimes, Lobster sometimes.

And I play with myself, to get me some pile of sweets on weekends

Nobody can resist the power of cheesecake, muffins and the like, man!

Seems very strict i know, but had to be done

Since my Dad's side having problems with hearts and cholesterol hereditarily.

Better prevention now, than have to totally eliminate all good foods and sweets for good,

and to get me some Statins for the rest of my life.

It doesn't very pleasant to have pills everyday lol :(

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA LOL WAT?!!?!?! HAHAHA THIS IS NOW MY NEW SIG

but yeah. so you want to gain weight? Hmmm...I had a friend that was trying to gain weight for football, so he would just suck down on Slimfast shakes (that are meal substitutes) to up his calories. Maybe this could work for you? I don't really know much about slimfast, but I imagine it could work if you drank one with every meal, and then a few in between those meals or something.

DDDDDD:!

Well dietary drinks such as Slim Fast and others are supposedly meal substitutes so there's plenty of calories in them. Protein shakes though (depending on what kind) have very few calories. The protein I use is only like...150 calories per serving. But with that said, there are supplements such as Monster Milk, Muscle Milk, Up Your Mass, etc. that aim to cause you to GAIN weight. These are cleverly called weight gainers. If you have a local store that sells protein and protein supplements, look for some weight gainers that will definitely help you. And if you REALLY want to gain a little bit, drink those with meals if you very well please.

Other than that, eat lots of meat. That's always key to growth

Oh no no no, I should of worded myself better :x He doesn't have diabetes but he's been warned by his doctor because he has bad glucose levels and all these other things like cholesterol. His cholesterol and glucose are the biggest concerns right now because if he doesn't take preventive measures now to lower them to healthier levels he'll end up with diabetes. He has an extremely fast metabolism and so growing up he always just ate whatever he wanted without a care since he would never gain weight and he suspects all those years eating bad foods has caused his cholesterol and glucose to tank. That is why I started to be more healthier then usual because I don't want to be surprised a couple years from now from my doctor. D:

Ohhhh, sorry I misread that! Well it is very good to see that he has revamped his eating routine. I have a friend that was warned she would get diabetes if she kept sucking down energy drinks every hour and going out to eat every day, but yet she persists.

I know some people like that :-x I don't understand why people would disregard the warning! DDD: I'm the youngest person in the office and I look at the older people that are overweight and constantly ill and compare them to one of our specialist who is just as old as them but is so healthy and active. I want to be like that when I'm older so that has been the source to some of my motivation to cut the junk food. :P I don't want to be trapped with a body that can barely walk a few yards or bend over and pick up something off the ground.

Lots of hiking, no smoking and no fast food. Haven't seen the inside of a McDonalds or Burger King in over 10 years.

But especially hiking. Preferably up and down the hills. :D

I wish I was as strong as you haha. I always have to have my cheat meal of the week, and it usually consists of a quick trip to a fast food place or a restaurant with friends.

on that note, if anyone wants something AMAZING...try this out sometime:

ePOW6.jpg

Here is your gold standard whey (vanilla ice cream flavor) and orange gatorade. They have to be mixed thoroughly together though...or else you'll get nasty Whey chunks in it. D: I used to hate gatorade because it's nothing but sugar and carbs, but then I realized that these carbs are essential for post-workout growth...so naturally I had to mix them! This tastes amazing...it's like a...creamsicle ;_; <3

Almost this, but instead of "hiking" it's "jogging/running" ...and instead of "lots" it's "some". ...and okay, fast food occasionally, maybe once a month. xD

I also try to go swimming once a week but I'm pretty meh about it recently that the exams are closing in.

Good job I guess.

I need to lose a pound or two right in my stomach. My vacation will be full of crunches. :(

Thank the goodness I have a fast metabolism, because I probably take in as many calories a day as Kachida does! And sometimes I ride my bike, so that helps a bit? I've always been skinny though, but not skeletal. I'd say right now I'm probably around 120lbs, which is probably the most I've ever weighed.

Only thing I have a problem with is my stomach. If I push it out, I swear I look pregnant. So I've cut back on dairy, and fast-food for a while now (so far it's been a month). I should start walking again, but not in this horrible weather...

Anyway I don't smoke, I occasionally drink, I eat a lot of meat and vegetables, so I think I'm rather healthy? :|

You shouldn't really cut back on dairy if you want to get rid of your tummy. Dairy is very good to have (very high in protein!), just do ab workouts constantly to tone it. and then maybe it'll look better.

if you eating eggs, throw away the yolk, that's the main source of fat and trans fat.

same thing with chicken, peel off the skin and eat just the white meat

(although it's the greatest part of chicken D:)
