Zeus 7997 Posted December 12, 2011 I grew up listening to Metallica in the car as I was driven places. The Metallica of back then is so much different from the Metallica of now. Their joint album with Lou Reed was objectively terrible and the two songs that were unreleased from Death Magnetic were unreleased for a good reason - they need some more work. Death Magnetic itself was just an average album but the mastering makes the album worse than the composition of the songs that make it up - the loudness war really screwed that album over. I'm amazed they have yet to issue a remaster of the album because it really, really needs it (and there are fans willing to buy it!). Death Magnetic is still miles ahead of anything since The Black Album so I'll give them that much. My personal favorite era is Kill 'Em All - Ride The Lightning. Master of Puppets does nothing for me. Glad to see other fans of Metallica on this board. Their 80's material was kickin'.
Jigsaw9 6783 Posted December 12, 2011 It's been awhile since I last listened to these guys but I remember And Justice For All being my favorite album. All around awesomeness, that one!

Wicked Teletubby 528 Posted December 18, 2011 listening to a first anniversary show at The Fillmore. epic as it is. first half of One was only played on cellos by Apocalyptica with James singing. Lars, Rob and Kirk joined in the second half (surprise!) titled 'Darkness'. Carpe Diem Baby absolutely ROCKED. so did my personal favorite No Leaf Clover with Apocalyptica cellos again. wow. I mean it. wow.

Pandabear 414 Posted December 19, 2011 They're awesome. But yeah new material doesn't come close to their old. I actually liked Death Magnetic, but the sound production was just god awful. Haven't heard their latest EP though. I'm going to give it a shot.

Bear 1817 Posted March 4, 2015 Metallica Kick Off Reissue Project With 'No Life 'Til Leather' Cassette Metallica will revisit their early years in a big way for the first time next month, when they put out an exact duplication of their thrashing declaration of intent — the 1982 demo tape No Life 'Til Leather — as a limited-edition cassette on April 18th. "Twelve people will be able to play it, but everybody else will be able to hold it in their hands and, uh, have a great time with it," drummer Lars Ulrich tells Rolling Stone with a laugh. The band will release the cassette on Record Store Day before issuing expanded CD and vinyl editions this summer, marking the first time any of their demos have been officially released. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/metallica-kick-off-reissue-project-with-no-life-til-leather-cassette-20150303?page=2 By far Metallica's best release miles ahead of Kill 'em All, so I'll try to grab both the tape and vinyl version. It's good to see that despite only releasing shit every since 1986, they're still capable of putting out good music. Heh. This demo is sooooooo damn good, and sadly James Hetfield would never sing this awesome ever again. Such a shame.
Takadanobabaalien 3607 Posted March 4, 2015 Don't get all the hate for "new" metallica. A new album I really enjoyed is Death Magnetic. Haven't listened to anything they releaed after that. Though of course it doesn't compare to their early stuff.
Crube 585 Posted March 4, 2015 and sadly James Hetfield would never sing this awesome ever again. Such a shame. Kind of hard to do after... you know... hitting puberty and accidentally blowing out his vocal cords while trying to record So What.
