6th Ice Nine Kills - The Predator Becomes The Prey
an old band (just for me), I have the same heart as Intohimo......
they often create traditional post-hardcore sounds in the early times, but this new album gives us a different atmosphere.
a little symthonic, screamo vocals, excellent clean vocal, melodic guitar riffs and vampyre impact to your mind.
everything made up this strong band's new album.
this band is not famous for their breakdown but melody I think. even though I don't concentrate on melodies, but I still love this.
hope they could create more unique sound in the future!

5th Killing The Messenger - What Matters Most
another brand-new band's debut, another strike of breakdown.
rapidly comes to the first track...
OH! Breakdown Of Sanity??????
this band is a fanboy of BoS, in my opinion. as a big fan of them, I'll love this band of course.
tons of breakdown, over 70% part in a song, rhythmic guitar riffs, alongside melodic guitar riffs.
but not a copy of BoS.
the first 3 tracks are totally breakdown breakdown and breakdown.
from 4 to 6, here comes some post-hardcore influence.
clean vocal appears, and make them more strange, a post-hardcore version of BoS? nope
there are something special, they tried to make atmospheric and experimental songs, like Architects.
but in a result, it becomes another type, only post-hardcore. you could try "Find My Way".
the last track begins with drop C breakdown, another BoS fanboy song, but the next 2 minutes fades in clean vocal.
and melodic shred guitar. finally fades out with chorus.
anyway, a solid work but a nice experiment.
strongly recommend to fans of BoS!

4th Tell Me A Fairytale - Sleepwalker
a Russian band, I have to recognize some Russian -core bands are very different from other American and European bands.
start with a good intro "I", here comes the title track "Sleepwalker", and then...
WTF! a breakdown with drop C....no no no, it's drop E! (just like I ever said).
and clean vocal is really a highlight, I have to dream...
unclean vocal is pure scream, screamo you know.
drum beats are pretty good too, full of energy.
time of breakdown is very proper I think, let you jump around.
my fav track is " Limitless", it's difficult to express this perfect fantastic song, strongly recommend this song.
generally speaking, TMAF does catch people's eyes using this debut album, at least my eyes.

3rd To Catch A Fox - Dishearten
this is a new band, yeah, their potential is...... ugahhhhhh!
I'm pretty shocked about this EP when I listened to this for the first time.
a hybrid with screamo/emo post-hardcore, some post-rock elements, one or two doublekick.
could I call this technical post-hardcore? nope, not too much technical riffs.
unclean vocal is full of strongly deep growls differentiates from others, one or two squeal, like Yuki of Lustknot, you know.
breakdown is strong too, atmosphere is pretty fairy, 8 tracks seem to show a story if you neglect the real lyric.
clean vocal is, well, if you love bands like Escape The Fate or Blessthefall......
with some spoken words, are they fans of Enter Shikari??? I'm not a big fan of spoken words though.
in a word, this is a pretty successful debut after line-change.

2nd I Killed The Prom Queen - Beloved
yeah, IKTPQ is back, from this album, and they surely catch fans' eyes, and my interests......
I got the deluxe edition, btw.
the old albums, before 2006, their works are solid and, really generic.
but this one is totally different, if you think it's metalcore, it should be melodic metalcore.
the rhythm guitar riff is powerful, and there are many effects inside.
the clean vocal is pure, another highlight, you could try the song "Thirty One & Sevens".
the unclean vocal, well, simple growls, nothing special, but every word strikes my heart.
and when the two vocals come together, it works out a fantasy world. alongside they keyboard.
some songs are really melodic, try "Calvert Street" and "Nightmares" etc.
anyway, this one is pretty fantastic either for fans like me, or for fans of melody.

1st Buried In Verona - Faceless
you may ask me why I put such a normal band to the 1st, and aren't they the same as IKTPQ?
I have to say, no. they're totally different for me, especially from this album.
I've listened to this one for over 10 times till now, I had a special feeling that I've never felt.
-core cilcle of this year is full of nu-metal, yeah, but who could win this nu-metal hybrid battle?
in a pity, there's no winner I think. whether you think which band is overwhelming.
but in fact, BIV does have a new power to this tides of nu-metal and metalcore hybrid.
the only highlight is breakdown parts of each song.
the bad part is the unclean vocal, maybe it's too weird for some people but I think it's okay.
just like Angelo Aita of Abandon All Ships, or Ryan Zimmerman of Greeley Estates, their unclean vocals have a "tear-out feeling" (my friend said).
and Ryan's one is up-side, others are down-side. I have the same feeling too.
whatever you face to this album, I strongly recommend this to the fans of breakdown, not melody.

His Statue Falls was formed in 2003 in Saarbrücken. The musicians played in different bands like Crash My DeVille and Enter The Phoenix and were friends since school time. The band was formed as a studio project. In 2007 the group released their first demo CD consisting of three tracks. The group played their first gigs in 2008. After some line up changes the bands today line up originated.[1][2]
In 2009 the band played four shows as opener for Enter Shikari in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The message to play together with Enter Shikari the band got at their MySpace profile.[2] On February 26, 2010 the debut album Collisions was released via German record label Redfield Records. It was produced by the bands bassist Christian Diehl. In June the same year the album was released in Japan via Radtone Music. In December the band released Collisions Remixed which contains 8 remixed songs from their debut album as free download on their Webstore. The band planned a concert tour through Russia and Ukraine in October 2010 but the shows had to be re-scheduled due to the injury of their drummer Maximilian Schütz.[3]
The second album which is entitled Mistaken for Trophies was scheduled for release on September 23, 2011 but it was postponed to April 20, 2012. In February 2012 the first single was released. It's entitled Breathe In, Breathe Out and features Chuong Trinh of Hordak as guest vocalist. The album peaked on place 19 in the newcomer charts of Media Control in Germany.[4] On May 9, 2012 the album was released in Japan via Radtone.
Due to familiar reasons drummer Maximilian Schütz left the band and was replaced by Markus Pesch who joined the band in May. In July His Statue Falls touredJapan for the first time. The band played in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo while the Geki Rock Tour. After Geki Rock His Statue Falls played six shows in Chinaincluding Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Nanjing and Guangzhou.
In August the band confirmed that they fired their lead vocalist Alex Sauer due to personal differences.
At the end of April 2013 it was announced that Jan Vergin (Cocoon) joined the band as their new unclean vocalist.[5]
On September 25, 2013, it was announced that they will be releasing a brand new ep called "I Am The Architect" on October 18.[6] The self title track of the ep and the belonging video were released on October 11.[7]
On October 11, 2013, former touring member Sebastian Monzel (Of Saints And Sinners) was introduced by the band as their new guitarist. He replaced Christoph who will focus on private matters and his day job.[8]

Do they? As far as I know they didn't have any training in the 80's when they started with growls and harsh vocals. I feel pretty confident that the likes of Quorthon, Scott Carlson, Lee Dorrian, Stevo, Chris Reifert and so on didn't have any training. I'm sure they just wrote some fast music and went to their rehearsel place and started screaming their guts out.
Or is this "unclean" you guys are speaking of soemthing new? Or a different type of screaming? I've never heard about it so I might have missed that. I just thought it was something that included "screaming/shouting/growling/shrieking/whatever".
maybe the old artists needn't train as you think, but nowadays vocalists are meant to protect their vocal cords, as far as I know there are several old artists who did unclean vocals had already hurt their throats and retired.
unclean vocal instead "screaming" is sure, there're many kinds of "screaming". vocal techniques need to get innovation too. use tongue, thorat, lung, airflow and so on. we live in a modern society, not the same as 1970's or 1980's and 1990's. things are getting changed everyday. just like many people don't think "djent" is a new genre now. that's also the reason why old school and neo school partys always argue about genre differences.
mmm, as you see my words, I'm a neo school supporter. perhaps the oldest era of music that I could receive is 1990's.

I'll never get things like this. You dislike every single oshare kei bands because some uses autotune? That doesn't make sense. One can use autotune tastefully, so you don't have to sound like T-Pain or anything and go full retard with the whole shit.
I don't mind growling or harsh vocals (never heard harsh vocals in any VK band though) as long as it fits the music. That's the only thing I care about. It needs to fit the music. And in the VK scene there's good growlers and bad growlers, just like in the rest of the music scene in the world.
And I don't get the whole "they shouldn't growl because they don't have the training" thing that some have said in this thread. One needs training to growl and use harsh vocals? When did someone need any training to do this shit?
maybe I should say "oshare kei bands hardly ever use unclean vocals and too much autotune appears so I don't like oshare kei".
well, unclean vocals needn't to train? lmfao

R指定 - ずっと ともだち
uh, um...I forgot what to say.

the most talented bands for me are who did an innovation in a certain circle, not beyond this circle. everyone could do sth sth beyond a certain range.
vk bands did things in the certain circle of rock, well maybe pop. but they've been already beyond the circle of certain genres. my personal opinion only.
btw, black metal that Pandabear mentioned often use shriek I think. but depressive black metal use another kind of shriek.
-
but in fact, I disagree with "US bands are boring" this point. I've been a metal fan for over 12 years, most of my favorite songs are from north american bands, I didn't find that boring until now. and my first touch is thrash metal and early metalcore (I meant hardcore plus heavy metal not metalcore nowadays, eg. Hatebreed, As I Lay Dying)
everyone has their own taste, everyone has freedom to choose what to like and dislike. just like I dislike use of autotune but many oshare kei bands use much autotune, so I don't like oshare kei. that's what I want to say. the same as techniques of unclean vocal, someone loves growl, others love scream or squeal.
-
and as you see my profile image, I'm a fan of R-shitei xD

@acbpn infinite∞numbness (re-recording) is his best, and i want to die are his best
you're right, and other epic for me are nihilism and code No. [13], of course from Paranoid Personality.
and I love Keita (CodeRebirth) and Ichi (GHOSE) too, they really have potential of unclean vocal. and the 2 bands are awesome.
-
well, for Wing Works, if Ryosuke reduce more autotune, maybe I'd like to be a good fan of him but not now. I don't like bands with too much electronic. not everyone likes Breathe Carolina.

7th For The Fallen Dreams - Heavy Hearts
another "average level" band for most of the "fair critical"......= =
I don't mind what other people said, I really love this album, though it's just normal (as you thought).
I don't have any emotion about this band, I just knew them 4 years ago.
many breakdowns, yes, simple growl, yeah, chugging guitar, of course.
everything seems normal.
but, did you recognize the song structure?
mmm, melodic hardcore plus metalcore often creates good things.
you must try this if you love bands like Hand Of Mercy!
