this band had a moderately ok reception when i saw them even tho i didn't enjoy them at all. i was surprised they manage to fill out their empty member spots so i'm also surprised they're calling it quits after pulling that off. on the other hand if your band thread on tanuki is on thread #122 and you're not getting anywhere maybe it's time to stop

The Kouichi/shop girl thing is some copypasta nonsense/long convoluted fan drama that has been spammed all over the board since the beginning of time and that's why everyone on tnk is glad they broke up, because maybe now the copypasta will stop.

i'd been into various vk bands prior to finding 12012 (brief love affairs with Deg, Kagrra, pre-Taste of Chaos D'espa) but they were my first true teenage-hormone filled bandom loves, complete with fighting people about them on lj, like you do. i remember being SO upset when Clash Against Commercialism was cancelled because it was going to be my chance to see them. then Wataru got into his scandal and tearily read tanuki despite barely understanding it and thought my life was ending because they were probably going to disband... soon after i got a clue, became thoroughly grossed out by Wataru's existence and all the other stuff i had read/heard about the members, and disillusioned by their change in musical style, so i dropped them. i specifically remember listening to aitai kara... and thinking i couldn't even pretend to like it, lol. they did get more interesting again w/ Shinichiro but i was just so done i didn't really care. Tomo is still a fine piece of man tho

& a national tour for June/July including a bunch of prefectures they haven't been to before (or at least haven't been going to in recent memory). interesting. probably have some costs to recoup after those free shows + their two months off. none of the venue sizes are really a downgrade for them except maybe? Fukuoka and Sapporo?? so it'll be interesting to see how the venues fill out post-AK.

    lmao i was her lj friend and i still hear from her once in a blue moon on twitter. she was definitely a hugely c*nty ladder climber on lj tho (so was i tbf...) i was also lj friends w/ the girl who ripped off Aki from SID's necklace when they came abroad. lj was great and when it died so did all these wonderful pieces of history ;_;

i have a pet theory about why foreign fandom shrank. 1) like @TheStoic, i think the death of scene/emo has a lot to do with it. like it or not the primary audience for visual kei is girls of about 15-23, and that was probably also the same demographic for My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco!, FOB, etc. alternative in a girl-friendly package was all the rage. i probably wouldn't have found out about vk if there wasn't stuff like Sum 41 and co.'s pop punk and Linkin Park on the radio -- rock bands were cool at the time. they're not cool right now. 2) fragmentation of fan communities -- @nekkichibrought this up well but i'll run my mouth off about it too. lj in particular was centralized, filled to the brim with the primary fan demographic, and the structure was very conducive to roping fans in and keeping them not only interested but wanting to establish themselves as BNF. myspace groups may have been similar but idk i wasn't a myspace girl. there was incentive to make fan content even as simple as journal icons or fanfics and positive feedback would spur people to keep contributing. even something more controversial like roleplay communities served as fan labor. this promotion was invaluable even if it was prone to being derided by people who wanted a bigger focus on the actual music. resources, legal and less so, were available in huge one-stop shops, not just as mp3 sharing communities but things like jrock_scans (which has 23,661(!) members for reference). the craze for fanlistings and their older cousin, webrings, also connected people who posted about multiple bandoms and facilitated cross-pollination. twitter was/is insufficient for a multi-media experience and doesn't allow for collaboration, and tumblr has the problem of lack of community building and cross-pollination (while on lj, kyosamaluvr666 could post actively in dir_en_grey, customers_suck, lotr-fanfiction, garagesalejapan and mention all of these topics on their personal journal to their 400 friends from all of these places). forum culture differs too much from these dedicated fan communities, and forums are kind of a dead meme on top of that anyway. we no longer have BNFs/influencers that bring in teenage girls. tl;dr visual kei fandom died because teenage girls, the demo that propels pop culture trends, aren't being drawn in. we lost our beatlemaniacs, our MCR-my, our directioners.
  9. lmao so it's not just me who noticed... [INFERIORITY] COMPLEX, MOMENT + MORNING GLOW, ENVY. of course it could be a coincidence, they were hardly unique titles to begin with but then again maybe not. yet i'm actually still looking forward to this album :')

@anakurois right all around: it should be "osare" and "kote-osa" and the majority of these terms are out of use. it's fine and interesting to discuss the genres created and upheld in foreign fandom but it has very little to do with the current actual scene in Japan; if you want to write a paper you may want to point this fact out. to further echo her the only ones i see getting regular-ish use in japanese fan spaces are kirakira and abare (which isn't a music genre but just bands with lots of hardcore hairwhipping over cute furi as the audience participation style), and sometimes kote, tanbi and shironuri (again, not a musical genre or specific to vk but just whiteface bands). no -kei required usually. sofubi is 90's as shit (Waive/Sophia/Janne), misshitsu-kei/chikashitsu-kei was pronounced a dead meme even in this common bangya vocab list everyone cites that was last edited in 2009 and probably originally written long before that. what qualifies as "nagoya kei" is contentious as shit and almost means a whole separate set of bands to foreigners/Japanese gya as you can see from @Takadanobabaalien's translation of the Japanese wiki vs. thoughts here. if you just want to compile anything that was ever called a genre or a "-kei" there is also pikopiko-kei (not limited to vk though, just beep boop video game-esque electronic music) and apparently according to some random old bangya blogs iryou-kei (medical themed bands ala LuLu). oh, and don't forget 糞盤, the most important subcategory of all

tbh my music friends are mostly online, and my irl friends and i don't talk about it much...? i did take one of them to see Sadie with me when we went to Japan and she didn't have any serious insight but she thinks the concert vibe there is fucking cool. also i did bring a couple of "normies" from my dorm to lynch. shows in Japan. South American male rock musician liked them, Euro female who already enjoys Western hard rock really liked them, Desi female who doesn't listen to much but Western pop & Bollywood songs was intrigued but wished there was less screaming (lol, but she loved SuG because they're cute). but i think since they all came expressly to Japan to study it kind of eliminated any hangups about language because why the fuck would you go there otherwise. in high school if i showed people my favorite bands they would definitely just think of it as like some scene kid shit mixed with some weaboo shit. i hung out with a weird mix of scene kids and nerdy dudes who liked electronic music and they were pretty accepting overall, even if the crossdressing aspect really fucked with them sometimes.

what is Aki going to do now if blesscode is gonna bite it and the D event is dead too ;; they were pretty good live but they were another band that didn't seem to be growing a fanbase as much as they should have :c
  13. cvltic

smh little do u know that was the true AVANTGARDE makes me wonder how Nii does at bass, he's been lynch.'s #1 fan for ages and they could continue the legacy of bullying their bass player mercilessly
  14. cvltic

yeah this plus what @Ro plzsaid are on the money... while i understand being cynical and saying they weren't being sincere about considering returning to indies, that doesn't really mesh with the lynch. i've seen and (think) i know. especially their history/stance with any type of management other than self-management it's early to be talking about replacements but i wonder who they will be picking up as support, and if they'll consider adding any more official members. Hazuki is extremely weird about bass players, the reason they picked Akinori over their previous support bassist Junji was because Junji and the band didn't believe Junji's skills were up to par. Hazuki said repeatedly he would rather have no bassist than one who can't play significantly better than he can. the other thing was Akinori's personality (specifically the Hazuki as tsukkomi/AK as boke routine that came up in comment videos and their nico nama show) was a pretty big factor in attracting new fans and keeping existing fans engaged. as for the rest of the band... Yusuke is a hipster mute, Asanao is interesting but quiet, and Reo is their Catholic dad who doesn't use social media. 4 piece lynch. was still good but had very little member/fan interaction, with Hazuki doing all the heavy lifting when it came to selling personality. the only time they really shone was when they were making fun of Junji, or AK after him... it's going to be a harsh adjustment.
  15. cvltic

Yes, in the end it was a weed possession charge and they decided to let him go. They considered going back to being indies to keep him, but after talking with Akinori they felt like they would be hurting the staff of King/Bellwood. Hazuki wrote that he was very sorry he couldn't keep his promise not to keep them all together but they'll keep going on. They did cancel their remaining shows as a continuation of their self-restraint period (ala HNIB) but they will give details later about when they'll be back i'm really happy that lynch. isn't over but so sad about Akinori. why did you do this to yourself ;_; edit: someone reminded me that fucking Sugizo recommended AK to Toshi for his solo backing band, this guy threw away so much ):
  16. cvltic

^ they play ~250-300 person capacity venues often and idk if they sell them out. at holiday next in nagoya (~250 cap) they played with DADAROMA and after DDRM was done the crowd thinned out a fair bit. i wonder if there's a list of common venues with capacity listed somewhere because it's an easy measure i agree Satsuki will either finally stop being deluded and give up his solo career or marry a european and move there to work instead i also predict that there will be a scandal directly related to in-store photo sessions that tops even the girl who made fest vainqueur pose with condoms in their mouths and another dude is going to get stabbed by a gya

I got it! The print is really amazing, but the problem with it and the GREED shirt is they're juuust the wrong length for me, so they're harder to style. I def like this one more than the GREED shirt tho, it's so pretty
  18. Back into the dungeon for Aki then, RIP bb OK somehow I read that novel and the long and short is: A director of Pleasure" Entertainment is a childhood friend of Hiroki's. They worked with him for a few earlier shows which went smoothly, but as Asagi put it his incompetence became evident with this show because he didn't seem to understand anything about the youth protection laws (prohibiting people under a certain age from attending all night events), didn't consider how to line attendees up for the parade, didn't seem to even understand what it meant to make templates for goods or to send things to press. Anyway shit pops off when P"E tells them that even with enough attendees they won't gain any profits from the shows in these 3 Puroland venues. It became clear that the promoter didn't bother to get an estimate on the costs until just before they told D that it was too costly, because they only saw the budget a few days ago (some time in December). Various proposals about how to make the event profitable were bandied about, and the employee of P"E suddenly breaks contact. He's tweeting about shopping and partying but nothing. At the end of all this lack of contact, they get the mail saying it's been cancelled. P"E continues to not respond to LINE, mail, telephone, etc. D is like o shit, we have to hear from them so we can announce this if it really can't be salvaged because all our fans have already made year-end plans to go and we've already put money into this. It takes so long to get into contact that they have to use a lawyer. Finally their lawyer talks to P"E's laywer, and their lawyers are still talking currently.

i'm guessing no one wants to be the next rapelay and have their nerd porn business shut down because of hand-wringing? idk i don't question clients i just take their dirty money in the end i just had to remove any references to anything incest-y too
  20. cvltic

First world problems: my job gave me an erogame translation and they told me to sanitize all the sexual assault but they didn't tell me what to do about the incest...

it still is to me, i mean they were practically waiting for Umebo to come back from Europe to bust him for having pot at home while his known buddy is in holding for reasons unknown and unannounced by the media? i mean the media got to Umebo's case before HNIB could even make a statement. call me Alex Jones but it's all suspicious as shit lmao
  22. cvltic

a shame they had to let him go, i was fond of him in particular because Akinori loved him so much lol i'm unironically convinced his case is connected to Akinori's so i did some more reading. someone who's twitter handle is "Umebo's ex-gf" was posting in February of this year (cache available: http://tweez.net/umebo_hnib_/) whoever this person was, they claimed he was a marijuana user and that they had picture(s?) of him smoking it. they also claim that after he made them smoke it they were hospitalized for it days later (??? what) but regardless of the veracity, some articles have posited that maybe this information prompted some investigation.
  23. cvltic

this is so weird Umebo and AK from lynch. are buddies and basically the same person what kind of conspiracy? AK this is your chance to Parent Trap your way out of jail and come back to me

I googled "鬼畜教師(32歳独身)の悩殺講座" + ジャケ and then + おじさん and no one seems to know who he is -- if he's a politician he must be one from a long time ago if no one can figure it out? It might just be a random old guy? (one reviewer asks 'is this what a 32 year old looked like to the young members of gazette?' lol)

this is like the 7th or 8th time i've been sick this year, my immune system doesn't respect me anymore
