Fascinating, isn't it? You can't win nowadays with how you want your band to sound. You either get shit for not "evolving" or get shit for entirely changing your sound.
 
The big difference here, though, is that unlike Dir en grey, Sadie has not shown any level of competency when it comes to writing music with this new change in sound. At least a band like Dir en grey, though a mixed bag and lacking as of late, puts effort into their compositions and shows a level of growth which each album that is the antithesis of Missa. With Sadie, you can not find ONE quality of their songwriting and proclaim it to be progress from their previous sound. The merits of their compositions fall apart when in consideration of a path that people dread the most, cultural accessibility in music. They are playing it safe by treading the same ground that countless bands have done before to make their sound more accessible to a wider audience.
 
Bands who play it safe almost never get remembered a few years after they disband. Instead, those that do, offer something new to music that can be remembered for better or for worse. Sadie has yet to do anything like this other than come up with a shitty album title.
 
 
Not that I want them to go back to their "heavier" roots; but to regress so much with nothing to show for it? In this one instance, I can understand why people are bothered.
 
 
(this is based off of different expectations in music though. and I doubt a band like Sadie worries themselves too much about compositional integrity)

This is really NOT what I expected. (most of the previews being quite sweet and romantic sounding)
 
One in particular, "Hungry Psychopath" which I suppose I had pegged as something quite simple and heavy turns out to sample a really pleasant and emotional sounding chorus. It sounds excellent to me.
 
In fact, after previewing 50% of the album here.. I start to wonder if Mejibray's heavy side will be fairly supported. SERVANT is the most glaring example of how it would be done, to me it sounds Diru-inspired with the way the riffs go with the Tzk's reaching for higher notes, while the actual melody he sings is still very Mejibray.
 
This may be deceiving, as a lot of these songs may have much heavier sections that one wouldn't guess from hearing this (as is common with them)
 
I am excited for this. Given Mejibray's inconsistent history and the sudden announcement of The 420 itself, this album in theory is easy to make jokes about, but I think there's going to be a lot to love if you have ever been a fan of them, which I have and still am lol

My optimism still remains intact. Second half sounds just as good if not better, based off these snippets. 

I like the song so far. Its very promising at least for them...I like the look but Ryoga's flexing is weird. lol. B-sides are doing good. I prefer Ryoga over Byou though. At least he tries to go flex his voice every now and then. I feel like Byou's range is small and limited.

Well I LOVE the PV
 
I was loving the song too until the chorus hit, there's just no life to it. The group shouts seem quiet and Ryouga sings only a short line in between. I am liking it a bit more the more I hear it, but it's a shame..
 
Still the video is SO much better looking than The Stalin, The song may end up being the opposite of it (with the Stalin having virtually nothing to offer sans the chorus)
 
I wouldn't call this amazing, but this is the easiest it's been to feel positive about Born all year lol
