Really difficult to pick 9. I wont say they are the best, but these left an permanent impression on me, even after listening each 50+ times over the years. These singles/minis flow perfectly and i dont need to skip any song

    In order:
    1. 焔 - 環情線 (2. 離レ遠キ重ナラヌ願イ (remix-Ver))
    2. Dizon - fate/交差点 (1. fate)
    3. 闇撫 - 業 (3. " 夢、死に逝く鬱。")
    4. レインマン - 裏窓 (Sample album version)

filth_y reacted to WhirlingBlack in MH FEATURED POLL #40: What are the things you HATE about Visual Kei?
My main issue with the visual kei scene isn't really represented in the options here, and it's something you generally get more in touch with once you get to Japan and get to experience the scene.
Firstly, the fact that a large majority of visual kei musicians more or less openly admits they don't have any artistic or personal integrity, they don't care what they produce and they don't care that their sound is exactly like every other band out there, because they know that as long as the members are pretty enough there WILL be fans, and they WILL pay you money for "company" and "favors" so that you can survive comfortably and keep rehashing the same song for a couple of years until you feel like calling it quits and do something more worthwhile with your life, or more likely, go into full time hosting business now that you have a decent circle of clients already.

This sort of leads me into my second issue and it's the bangya culture. It's generally really vile, and the way the girls not only talk about the musicians but also each other is quite disgusting. If the bangyas decide that a member has done something they do not approve of, that doesn't live up to their perfect ideals that they hold them all to (because god knows the fangirls don't live up to any of them) they can easily start enough shit to cause a band to break up or force a member out of the band. The issues doesn't end there though, because the few foreign bangya that exists generally adapt to this mentality and lifestyle too. They openly shun other foreigners who dare attend the lives of "their" band and ruin their "specialness", they participate in this completely daft saizen system where a designated person basically decides who gets what spot at a concert so everyone can enjoy playing ten year olds doing the "you're not allowed to play with us"-games... And the obviousness of what really drives people to be fans of these bands become so apparent when they get to this level, and it's certainly not the music.

To be honest, in a lot of ways I never realized how bad this was until I got there and could see it all for myself, and that's despite a 13 year stint in the scene by now.

Link back to review of older TBS songs for some context
2016 is here and I am not as patient anymore so this will be shorter and more casual. I also humbly apologize for not knowing enough things TBS might have ripped off as well. For all I know everything could be on Gazettes last album. Anyway

TBS have finally released something substantial and disbandment doesn't seem imminent! Even though this is about 50% already released material. Let's go

    OUSIA
I get the impression that the only thing Jin -really- wants to be doing are those >10 minutes long ""prog"" clusterfucks. Obviously I'm thinking about Japanese title/odd symbol song from Vanitas. This time around things are more refined and not as dull. Basically this song has it all:

☑ KISAKI-worthy SE like you're being in a majestic forest or sth
☑ Yu (Nega) plays! (iirc) so if you liked cringey Nega piano you are allowed to cry now
☑ like four consecutive guitar solos. they are cheesy but its ok! really!!!!
☑ everything goes really fast sometimes
    ☑ acceptable chorus
    ☑ ~soothing~ acoustic guitar
    ☑ loads of bass
☑ "We are Dir en grey and we are playing MACABRE" type of Creepy build-up part
    ☑ tricky drumming
    ☑ guys its ELEVEN minutes
    ☑ fuuuuuuuuuuck
All in all I love it since things being -this- over the top is exactly what I want from TBS and I got it

    THE WORLD IS MY ROOM
    Not very bad

☑ they have maybe listened to someone who heard a meshuggah song once

    FINIS
I didn't care about this when i listened through it on that single either

☑ is it a ballad or a heavy song idk

    JAPANESE TITLE
idk did they change something? Again, this has redeeming qualities but feels empty

    TRIPPER
the bass is a bit louder and the guitar is slightly different maybe the original was better but song still good.  I'm still in love with the dubstep-sounding breakdown

    RUVISH
What the fuck is up with that rape-themed?? PV???? Drag is really gorgeous though. Song is fast and when it's not fast it reminds me of later instances of spooky Nega like that Baku song from Grave of the Sacrifice

    ☑ 22spooky orchestration
☑ if you liked jin whispers in nega your'e in for a ride
    ☑ delicious mess

    DEJECTED RAIN
a bit lower tempo and bluesy its cool that they are doing this. souunds a bit like dir en grey but then again what doesn't, you know

☑ that fucking guitar whine thing

    JUSTITIA
It's kinda cool. The chorus kills it a little bit for me but there are cool things to weigh that up.

☑ that fucking guitar whine thing

    BLIND DAYS

Fuck this seriously. If you're going to do vk faux jazz (as I predicted(!!!) in the old post. VK awareness level: Nostradamus) at least do it properly. this is like that Goodbye human song from Vanitas and that was bad also

    THE HOPELESS
    ☑ idk its still good

    Verdict:
Faster, more polished, more sophisticated. not as amazing-funny-bad as Vanitas but it certainly works. Most of the time the choruses are actually not bad! Good variation. Basically TBS are Nega, but they know what they're doing and they do it much better. For the next release I want more self-distance like the shit noodle song. But this is still pretty crazy and fun  to listen to.

I feel like many people get into the scene by reading the blog, saw it pop-up many times But its good imo.

My 3 favorites (not sure if all fit really into emo/screamo tho, at least i feel the are somewhat known/active in the scene atm  ):

(just one of these albums you can listen from start to finish over and over again)

(somewhat anoying to get their stuff... fck rarez; their latest tape is great!)

(more recent one, took me some time to get used to them; still need to check out their new album released this month; was at the show were the vid was recorded btw )

Saw all three live several times, hiha always makes me shiver for the whole show. Definitly recommend them for anyone who has the chance! hiha just toured europe and i bet theyll do again in the future!

I listen both, like both and saw both live.

But deciding between them is no real question since kamome is on such a higher level in skill, live atmosphere, importance for the scene, interaction with fans.

TBS had some nice songs but already sound too repetitive after just 1 year. And whats a good sound on CD if you cant produce it live (this one counts for too many "harder" VK bands anyway)? Still i enjoy them. But if they disband, what they probably will in 0.5-2 years, nothing will be missed. If we're lucky, Jin just continues in another band with the same image. Still love that Shit Noodle thing

Since most people here chose for look, limited listening acceptence for other genres/ VK CD-sound and the image they think they know when seeing pictures (while the real band member behavior is totally different and laughable) they will probably chose TBS.

Open your mind and visit kamome live if you have the chance, you wont forget the atmosphere/energy. For TBS live, if you dont go you wont miss anything imo.

You should listen to Visage's CDs GAME or reversal film (f.e. anticipate). His voice is just love. Also from what i did hear by 7addict (demo quality CD and live), his voice worked there too (live even better). But as you said, no idea how much he had to do with song writing.

Whoever was it in gossip did a great job tho, they had a good amount of rememorable melodies (butterfly, 残煙~after smoke~, Frozen Darkly, Final call, .. come to my mind). I remember the very old/early days of this forum when everybody seemed to jizz their pants to Final call, haha

Just lets hope they release a good produced CD
