^ OMG...I take back that statement xD
and how was I supposed to know lol, that kind of pop is completely outside of my music taste xD
-
the woman in orange pekoe has amazing pipes. i have no idea what her name is.
Indeed. Her name is Nagashima Tomoko. Lover her voice. -
i am adoring Satoko from me-al-art
As for soloist, in rock, i always adore Amano Tsukiko (Amano Tsuki as of now)
Satoko is awesome and has an incredibly powerful voice...ginhigure should try them if he hasn't - Satoko's voice is far from your typical Jp fm vox..
Used to be big Amano fan as well. She was one of my first Jpop/rock loves!
-
^ lol, ok. Sorry to derail the thread, but ginHigure needs to stop putting these distractingly sexy women in his sigs lol. =p
Let's get this thread back on track - Shiina is great, ronluna. I used to dig Tomoko Van a lot back when I was getting to Jp music!
-
I meant your sig lol
-
^ plenty of good Japanese female singers out there that break the "high-pitched/squeaky" voice mold. Nakano Yoshie is one of them lol!
Though I don't think you'd like her voice/music....^^;;
edit: and who the hell is that in your sig!!!??
-
Since most of the music talked about on this board is dominated by males, I'm curious to know who everyone's favorite female vocalists are. Specifically female vocalists from Japan. =)
Although I don't necessarily prefer female vocals over male vocals, I do tend to gravitate towards music with female vocals - so there's a lot out there that I like.
However, one of my all-times favs. would be Nakano Yoshie (中??良??) of EGO-WRAPPIN'. I've yet to hear any other contemporary vocalists quite like her. I guess her vocals are a bit of an acquired taste since she's usually the reason most people either love or hate EGO-WRAPPIN'. She's fun, quirky, diverse and def. one of the stronger Japanese female vocalists out there. On stage, she's also a helluva performer! =)
?
I've more, but Nakano Yoshie is probably among the top of my list. Anyways, that's enough fan-boying outta me. Who are some of your favorite female vocalists?
-
brutal VK is a bit of an oxymoron lol, but this is coming from someone who hasn't heard a great deal of VK. ={
-
yeah...I'd go if I could, but I'm in GA (south of the US), and can't afford to take a trip up to Canada atm...={
Steve, the organizer, is already planning for the next tour...he wants bring bands like Midori, Rin Toshite Shigure, toe and Clammbon!
Here's a new interview where he talks about all of this: (he even gave me a shout-out haha "one80" )

A friend of mine is organizing this tour ALL BY HIMSELF. Yep, everything (including airfare for the bands to fly from Japan) is coming out of his pocket. There are no sponsors for this tour either. He's doing this all for the pure love of the Japanese indie scene. If there are any Canadians here, I implore you all to catch this show! Even if you're not familiar with these bands, showing up to support this tour could mean the start of something AMAZING as far as GOOD Japanese bands touring North America. =)

Even though it's only shot in one room, spiral chord's PV for "distance to substance" is always fun to watch ^^

lmao, legend or not, I'd still feel odd listening to noise in front of most people...it's definitely nothing to play for the ladies either. =)
-
Merzbow is a legend and should not be anyones guilty pleasure.most people don't understand noise...there are even more folks out there who've never heard of it, so I can see why Skidium would consider merzbow a guilty pleasure.
-
@Libertine - what PVs are you and mono watching!!!??? lol, seriously. J-rock is MUUUUUCH bigger than just the stuff you guys see posted/talked about here on TW/batsu. It annoys me to see people say 99% of J-rock when, #1 - no one here has watched 99% of j-rock videos, #2 - I've seen quite a few creative/funny/entertaining videos in the world of Japanese rock, so naturally, I'm at odds with your claims
Granted, there are A LOT of boring/crappy PVs out there, but I wouldn't just discredit J-rock in it's entirety...
-
If you're just gonna post something like, "I don't feel ashamed for listening to anything" or "I don't have any guilty pleasures", then good for you - save yourself the time and refrain from posting. The point is, I'm sure most of us can completely own up for liking some of the stuff that we do. This thread is merely for sharing some of the music we like of questionable quality or stuff that we wouldn't readily admit to liking. =)
I find most "J-urban" (hate that tag) stuff to be downright embarrassing (moreso for the artists lol), but I really liked ARIA's song "RESPECT"....It's not bad for an "urban" pop song, it's actually well done. But all in all, it's not somthing I'd be caught listening to ^^;;

I won't lie, I liked Koda Kumi's song "BUT" when it came out...I even downloaded the single and this is certainly not the kind of pop that I'm into lol. In fact, I checked out Koda's more recent PV for "Lollipop" and it made my heart ache it was so bad.

Here's a great song with an awful PV =(
c3IwChRzAoY
It's funny because their previous PV for "wreckage" was at least more professionally shot. There is absolutely nothing going on in this PV.
-
Um...yes. For me it is. Don't care if it doesn't match up with your opinion.I'm just wondering what you're basing your opinion on. If it's just Dir en Grey, the gazette, merry, kaggra and other VK/VK-related bands, then you've seen very few Jrock PVs. Certainly not enough to make such a bold claim, even if it is an exaggeration.
You should probably reword your statement as "99% of every the jrock PVs I've ever seen"
-
Bad Jrock PVs: 99% of every jrock PV ever made.um.....NO
-
Despite the negative reviews above, I thought RED was an incredibly solid single. Certainly their best since DIM. Granted, there's nothing new here, but I've never looked at Gazette for anything groundbreaking - just some good, catchy rock tunes. All three songs deliver on that front.
-
^ lol, that's exactly why I made a top tracks thread. I've listened to a lot of Japanese albums this year, but there are few that really stand out as being "album of the year" material imo. But I'm also gonna have to re-listen to a lot of albums before I can actually come up with a list...I have bad habit of listening to most things only once, so there's a good chance that I haven't properly digested some albums. xD
-
@Herpes - yeah, "FOUL" is more or less a rehash of their Kyoiku era, and being so, I can see how it may come off as weak to some (especially with HZM and Hirama absent).
I dunno...I like it, though. xD

lostage - 眩暈
Holy shiznit, doe! We chose the same lostage song
クライシスモメント by MERRYThat shit is HOT...and I don't even consider myself a MERRY fan!
Lillies and Remains - a life as something transient, devaloka
I swear to god I almost included this song as well. Devaloka has become my fav. track by lillies, but "a life as something transient" is easily my 2nd fav. from that release.
-
We have a thread for the top albums of 2010 already, but I'm sure we've all heard great songs from albums that were unimpressive overall or just not good enough to include in a top albums list. So what are your top tracks so far? (best as in favorite =p)
Let's keep this contained to Japanese music, please - we have an entirely different subforum for discussion of music outside of Japan.
I haven't done my top albums (so far) list yet, but a top tracks list is a bit easier for me to do.
