  1. Even though Monsters wasn't very exceptional (I liked only Human-clad monster, lol), I still prefer it over Coll:set. Coll:set for me is very hard to get into and it sounds like it tries too hard at being something that it hasn't succeeded in. Monsters is a way more accessible album than Coll:set is, generally. That's why I usually don't understand people recommending Coll:set to people who want to try this band, mainly because I myself would rather recommend MIRRORS. MIRRORS still has something the newer albums don't, but it's more accessible than Coll:set is. Though I guess if the person who is asking for recommendations is into the kind of stuff Coll:set is, I'd understand why you'd recommend it. I myself got recommended Coll:set and I couldn't make it through the first 4 songs because it really REALLY seemed to annoy me because the tracks felt like they weren't going anywhere.

    I'd have to say MIRRORS > REDEEMER > Monsters > Coll:set

People probably recommend Coll:set because it's the release the band is the most recognized for, and is what got them "out there" when the album was released. A lot of D'espairsRay fans also got into the band because of the album, I guess that weighs in as well.

For me it's still one of their best releases(after Born and Sexual Beast), but I think that Mirrors is nearly as good even though it deviated from their previous style, because the band still had plenty fresh ideas. Redeemer was quite boring to me though, and Monsters was just not good at all because it lacked inspiration.

  2. There's also THOMAS, they started out as a somewhat okay and somewhat promising angura-esque band and then they turned into girugamesh-lite

Oh, and let's not forget ~controversial statement incoming~ MUCC, either. Their nosedive after Shion is amazing

    Dude stop posting my thoughts.

I loved Thomas' first song with their first vocalist, and their first actual single with the new guy was even better. But after that it got so, so bad.

Too bad though because the vocalist is pretty okay and the guitarist used to be in otoiro(one of the most underrated angura bands out there).

And yea Mucc, Gokusai was their last decent release. So sad.

  3. Gonna have to bring up NoGod, though they're relatively old compared to most other bands in this thread so far. Their indie stuff ranged from 'pretty aight' to 'amazing', but nowadays it's just bland bland bland bland

also, though i haven't been keeping up with them as much anymore, cocklobin is sort of this for me. I absolutely LOVED their first mini-album, but after that it sort of felt like they were slowly heading into a much more 'harsh' direction which just didn't do it for me? I haven't really kept up with them anymore at an in-depth level since somewhere around their full-length, which was somewhat good to me, so idk how it is now though.

Agree with the NoGod thing, kinda stopped following them after their first few releases. Those number songs are pretty cool tho.

And same for cocklobin, DDC was amazing and even black was pretty good, but after that it became kinda repetative and boring, sadly.

  5. As for old VK, like pre-00, I don't dig it. The more rock-influenced bands were kinda boring and the punk-influenced bands were just plain awful with their dissonant chords and badly screaming vocalists.

VK between 2000-2005 had some gems, there was lots of bad out there too of course, but this is probably my favourite era. It just all made sense.

2005-2010 the mainstream VK got worse - every band sounded even more the same and musicianship got plain worse. Don't get me wrong, I know that that has always been the case, but starting then even the bad bands got more and more exposure. The angura scene still had some pretty cool stuff tho.

As for VK from 2010 onwards, the "worse" trend has, well, gotten even worse. Apart from a handful of inventive bands I honestly don't see why people would want to listen to the repetitive crap that's put out nowadays. I'm mostly talking new bands, but too many old bands have also gone down that path sadly.

    My $0,02.

  6. But in all seriousness, everyone saw this coming the minute YOHIO realized they needed him more than he needed them and struck out on his own.

This haha. Even though his solo stuff sucks balls. I was okay with Seremedy's recent sound though, wasn't half bad. Just nothing spectacular.
