Renge got a reaction from AiobaMatto in Heyyy
I just realised I never made an intro post. I am the user Renge (named after Renge Miyauchi from Non Non Biyori, one of the few anime I've enjoyed recently)

I used to be way into anime and manga, but now I'm more into music. I still like anime and manga, but not as much as I did. I'm 18 y/o and studying Japanese as a minor at uni (in the UK - if anyone could tell me the best places to order VK CDs without the insane shipping costs to the UK, please let me know.)

I've only recently gotten into visual kei... sort of. When I was about 15 I had a brief period where I liked visual kei, but I can't even remember what bands I listened to, so I'm basically starting over. Music is a huge part of my life and there are tons of different kinds I like. I enjoy post-rock, post-punk, jpop (sometimes kpop, but not as much), emo (as in The Saddest Landscape, La Dispute, Touche Amore etc)... I'll try listening to anything that seems interesting, really.

My current favourite vk bands are Mejibray, Galeyd, DEG, Rentrer En Soi and D'espairsRay, but I don't know a ton of vk bands so I'll probably gain a lot more favourites as time goes on.

Anyway, my intro is dumb and I rambled a lot, so sorry for that :/

EDIT: my last.fm is miyauchi_renge if anyone wants to add me lol

it's kinda annoying how some posters imply that appreciating a band's visuals is "creepy" or writing dressing-up 100% as a gimmick. to make a badass costume takes talented designers, make-up artists, MONEY, and vision. they're legit pieces of art in their own right and i think it's rad how (SOME - host-kei is an exception) are able to deliver great music and good visual concepts. i always look forward to what moran, mejibray, etc, bring musically but i'm also stoked to see how they're going to present it. nothing wrong with that and i think its something the scene does better than most.

Photography is by far and away the art I am doing the most of lately (well, outside of all the design I do for work, if you count that). I figured that it deserved it's own post. Expect to see mostly cosplay and action sports stuff in here.

Let's start things off with one of my favorite shots from last season.

Depends what you choose. I personally use AirMail all the time, my packages takes 7 days to arrive in France and I avoid customs fees (my orders are small, maximum 3 singles or 2 albums, depends the total amount). you have an option on each release page to check the total price with shipping, try that!

Renge got a reaction from nullmoon in Oldest and newest releases you have?
I thought this might be an interesting thread. Post what your oldest and newest music releases are, either in your digital library or physically. Doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to J-music, although you can if you want of course.

    For J-music only, mine are:

Oldest: Dir en grey - MISSA, July 25th 1997
    Newest: MEJIBRAY - Nepenthes, April 1st 2015

    For all music in general:

Oldest: King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King, 1969 (on vinyl! c: )
    Newest: still MEJIBRAY - Nepenthes

Also, I'd just like to say... a lot of the news threads here have video samples. So you can preview all the bands that are releasing music and see what you like that way as well. That's basically what I do.

The only comment I can make is to sample a bit from all eras of visual kei. Every decade comes with it's own sounds, styles, and aesthetics. You may discover you like old-school more than you thought, or that the newer metalcore stuff is your preference, etc.

If you liked what you heard from each band, keep going through their discography.
