All of the songs sounded good!
Soan's project with Temari sounded relaxing, Soan's project with Akuta was fun

(and Hitomi just looked like a superstar)

    it's SHIT.

I will NEVER donate money to a lazy band/artist who won't move their asses to tour and make money by themselves. No fucking way. Not today, when the music can be recorded more easily at home or promoted heavily on internet, you have no excuses.
I saw some examples, with one of my favourite band Icon For Hire. I was a huge supporter, not anymore. I cannot support this mentality.
I explain: they didn't tour for months, and then they woke up "we need 125,000$ to buy a tourbus!!" (no need to say that the fans that weren't agree with them and said 'maybe you should get a little job? like us hum?" were litteraly INSULTED on their facebook page). Anyway, the goal was fulfilled in less than 24 hours...3 days after "we need 35,000 now!" excuse me??? After that they were complaining on twitter that their label asked them a lot of money for the recording of their next album...I'm sure they'll ask money once again.
This is what i hate the most about crowdfunding. It's the open door to laziness. Or the contrary (a band like Flyleaf, who toured a lot and then using crowdfunding to record their latest album...).
The crowdfunding is the music's cancer. If you think that taking money from your own fans is moral, then you're just not worth it. this is just so WRONG, I cannot accept this, or shit like meet & greet. I will never pay these madness.

Why don't they have space in visual kei anymore?
I think their songs are pretty outstanding compared with average vk songs I've listened to
Anyway, they have sorta crowdfunding project for their upcoming album

I'm very happy every time I know there's someone else who loves Kokusyoku Sumire! Their recent album is pretty good Sachi is involved with some vk bands (you might already know that her cellist partner at Aoi Tsuki to Akai Bara was a member of Kαin), so thanks to her I changed my mind about vk bands (before I knew Sachi eventually performs as guest musician at vk band's live, I thought vk band’s live was just about headbanging, screaming and growling with absurd voice)   Anyway, Pinkmakona recommended Blanc Chaine They were also good!   I knew NOBARA when she was in a band called Obscure, but it seems the band didn't go really well since its members are on their own project now     Anyway, have anyone mentioned SNoW? * Not sure whether they can be mentioned in this thread or not

actually I kinda like that kind of music (something soothing and 'vintage', I think?)
I do not really listen to much music in general, but I think Indonesia/Malaysia has some musician who suit my taste, like bands called "Mocca" or "White Shoes & The Couples Company"

I'm kind of surprised when I saw Kayoko on this list
I personally like Kayoko overly happy songs in Showa pop sound and her quirkiness. Her hairy video for “kekeke” is cute and funny, right?
Kayoko just has to strongly keep her ‘Kayoko’-style and make it a differentiation between her and the other singers.

I’ve checked Moran and I like their MV which you put on the list. Their animated character somehow reminds me of a lonely robot at SPITZ’s MV「Yumejanai」. I think Moran has a kind of distinct uniqueness, therefore it’s quite hard to like their work at the first shot.
... and  just realized that UNiTE has been way better than when I (accidentally) saw them around 2 years ago. They have a lot of hidden potential!

When I listened to Noh Salleh’s song, I suddenly remember about a band called “Payung Teduh”
I don’t know how but I think you would also like them.

I’ll mention Kokusyoku Sumire; love their distinct style and song:
I don’t think Kokusyoku Sumire belongs to J-Rock, but can’t we categorize her into vk?

For more ‘J-Rock’, I like NOBARA:
Her voice sounds scary, haunted and beautiful at the same time, and her guitar lines are pretty cool.
She used to be in a band called Obscure but now I think she’s on her solo project

I never heard Kokusyoku Sumire before, really interesting! I'll have to check more of her/their music out. I got into NOBARA with her last album, but I didn't realize she was in another band before. Thanks for that info.

I'm gonna have to get that album, this band is right in my wheel house. Love it!

So sad I missed the boat on AYA, I am living for that grunge. That first song has riffs straight outta Nirvana almost. So good. omg.  And of course I love UNLIMITS.

I never heard of NecRoCirCuS before, sounds like they're disbanded though? And I miss Decola Hopping so much. ;; I kept waiting to hear what Suiya was up to hoping she'd have a new band but I never saw anything.

I was so sad when Foreground Eclipse disbanded, they were one of my first Japanese metalcore/doujin bands too. Kyojaku. (I hope that's the right romanization?) are really interesting! I'd like to hear more from them. And I have heard 7Years To Midnight before but I never knew anything about the members. That's so cool, she's a beast!!

I never heard of bomi before, but I am liking her! And Ame no parade are great, they've been a staple in my playlist this last year.

I really like Silent Siren too, but I haven't gotten to check out their full releases yet. I should get on that.  First time hearing Clammbon, but I hope not the last. I really liked them. And plug.dj sessions have schooled me on Jun Togawa's flawlessness, new personal idol, tbh. XD

Classics! Shounen Knife were one of the first Japanese "girl punk" bands I ever heard. And their lyrics seriously are the cutest. lol.

Well you were definitely help in the idea stage, if we hadn't talked about it, I probably wouldn't have made it to begin with! XD

I think Aural Vampire is a group you, I and Fictioninhope are crazy about. lol. Really consistently good for a long time now. I never heard of LOVE PSYCHEDELICO before but I'm diggin' them. I'll look into more of their music (omg from this and the eoty lists I have so much I'm drowning in new music hahaha). And I got into BLOOD STAIN CHILD back when they had a male singer. I never got into Sophia (more for personal reasons I won't go into here) but I'm eager to see how the new vocalist works out since Sophia's departure.

And don't feel bad I have so many more to talk about that I left out just so this thread has room to grow. lol. I'm so happy to see this many responses though!! I left for a day and the thread kind of exploded. XD

蟲 is very beautiful. The original version of Undecided is also as good as the acoustic version (>_<)
From your suggestion's I feel something like 'an acoustic line pattern'. I wonder if it's because I put Rentrer en Soi's Ushinawareta Fuukei no Yume or it's a distinct pattern of Dir en Grey, but they surely have great acoustic tracks.
    Thank you for your suggestions!

Thank you for the suggestions! 傷 by ALSDEAD has gooooooooooood acoustic melody,
but somehow, at some parts, I feel the vocals like 'disconnected' from the instruments.... mmm... how to say it...
it feels like the instruments and vocals were recorded separately for two different-but-similar songs, and then they were just mixed together
But please don't mind about it, 傷 by ALSDEAD is a good track anyway.

I'm with Zeus, got into it around '99. I heard Loudness a couple of years prior because some of the resident metalheads at the record store I worked at went crazy when some came in. However, they aren't vk anyway so that doesn't count. But I think learning about them made me open minded about listening to visual kei when a friend gave me that CD of Dir en grey, X Japan, and Malice Mizer down the road.

Hey, don't feel bad. I think it's great people are still getting into it every day! New listeners keep the scene from dying out so you are very important.

I just began intensely listening to vk music since past few months.
Before that, I might listen to some vk songs when those became the anime theme song, or when my favorite musician took a part of them, but I didn’t really know whether those were vk songs or not

    Hello everyone,
I’m going to review V-Anime Collaboration -Femme-. This is my first review here and my English is faaar away below average so please bear with my stupid mistakes.

I review this because I found out this Collaboration is interesting since male vocals was covering OST which was originally sung by female vocals. Besides, -as someone who has no many clues about visual bands- I thought visual bands usually had something like rock/metal sounds with some synth effects for their musics. That’s why it was very interesting to know how would those cute songs become when they are sung by male vocals and infused with rock/metal sounds.
This review is my subjective personal opinion. Since I listened to the original version first, I had some weird attachments with the original one. That’s why, I couldn’t really give a good score for covers which I feel “This song shouldn’t be like this”.

    Let’s begin. . . .

「JOINT」from Shakugan no Shana II covered by 昴(Royz)× 風弥(DaizyStripper)
The original version had been packed with Rockin elements already. I think it won’t be difficult to make a good cover of this song. The cover version had a more intense guitar filling with pretty cool sound effects and Subaru’s voice went well with the song.
About Kazami, all I know when I googled about him is that he’s a drummer. I think that drums parts of this song had been just average. I don’t know whether it’s Kazami’s style or because of the song, but I think this song would be better if it has more intense drum kicks.
Score for this track: 3.3 of 5

    「オレンジ」from Toradora! covered by yo-ka(DIAURA)× 涼平(メガマソ)
I’m a fan of Toradora and Orange is my favorite OST from it. The original version was a very cute song which was sung by super cute vocal, gave the listeners light and cute atmosphere. Before listening to this cover, I listened to the original version and then a DIAURA’s song titled ‘Reason for Treason’ and instantly got excited about how this cover would be.
The cover version started with cute effects and then followed by Ryohei’s guitar parts. It was kinda hard for me to listen to yo-ka’s voice since I compared him with the original vocal all the way, but overall yo-ka and Ryohei did well. This song still felt so bright and gave me ‘happy-jumpy-feeling’ when I listened to it, and Ryohei’s guitar parts gave this song different punch.
Score for this track: 3.7 of 5

「NIGHT OF SUMMER SIDE」from Kimagure Orange Road covered by 桜井青(cali≠gari)× 那オキ(THE BEETHOVEN)
This is originally a classic song from a classic anime that feels so classy.
Ao and Naoki gave this song a lot of electric touches so this song sounded a lot more ‘modern’ than the original one. At some parts, Ao’s voice was effected so it sounded kind of ‘robotic’.
Speaking of the feeling, this cover is absolutely wasn’t a retro song like how Night of Summerside used to be, but somehow I can tell it was something from Kimagure Orange Road or at least a comedy anime. Maybe if Kimagure Orange Road will have a sequel with futuristic background, this version can be used as the theme song.
Score for this track: 3.5 of 5

    「フェアリーテイル~約束の日~」from FAIRY TAIL by 米倉千尋× 咲人(NIGHTMARE)
Actually, I can’t really comment on this one since Yonekura Chihiro is the original singer of this song, so let’s just leave the vocal as how it was.
The original version of this song was filled with electro sounds, with a part of the guitar solo and violin effect, made this song sound pretty complex. Collaborating with Sakito made this song sound heavier than the original one. Sakito’s guitar parts all over the song unexpectedly went well with Chihiro’s vocal and they still kept electro sound effects in the whole song. A nice approach to combine sound effects and cool guitar lines.
Score for this track: 3.8 of 5 (just for the music)

「ゆずれない願い」from Magic Knight Rayearth covered by 夕霧(DaizyStripper)× MiA(MEJIBRAY)
This song always reminds me of Naomi Tamura classical beautiful voice which sounds kind of emotional and signature guitar parts which somehow has become ‘identity’ of this song.
I think Yugiri’s vocal type is an advantage because it can make him, sang this song almost like how Naomi Tamura did.
Yugiri nailed it well. I could feel the emotional feeling like I did when listened to the original version. MiA also did the guitar parts cleverly. He kept the signature guitar parts and went well with Yugiri’s vocal.
I personally think this cover is very close to the original version. I don’t know whether it’s good or bad since I feel it’s more like another-version of the original Yuzurenai Negai. Maybe some people said this track is lack of creativity, some others said this is well done.
Score for this track: 3.9 of 5

「ブルーウォーター」from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water covered by 揺紗(THE KIDDIE)× 風弥(DaizyStripper)
I think the original version was just ‘another theme song’, I meant nothing special about this song among the others at that time. That’s why I was looking forward about the cover, wished they would do something to make this song became an outstanding one.
The cover version was quite different from the original one, but I thought it was just ‘another-visual-band-songs’. Kazami’s drum parts are better than on his previous track, but still, I felt there were many similar songs made by visual bands. Maybe it was an example of a visual band song?
Score for this track: 3.25 of 5

「ムーンライト伝説」from Pretty Soldiers Sailor Moon covered by Kaya × 涼平(メガマソ)
A famous song from one of the most well known anime at 90’s.
Before listening to this song, I listened to (actually I watched on YouTube) Kaya’s song titled ‘Chocolate’, and then I feel that the cover version of Moonlight Densetsu was so Kaya-ish. Kaya has such strong distinctive character and this song was almost completely overwhelming with Kaya’s character, although he kept the signature melody at the beginning of this song.
Anyway, I could barely hear guitar parts in this song; just some rhythm as filler far away in the back of Kaya’s voice.
Anyone knows what did Ryohei do for this track?
Score for this track: 3.5 of 5

「薔薇は美しく散る」from Rose of Versailles covered by 団長(NoGoD)× MiA(MEJIBRAY)
Another iconic song from famous 80’s anime. I remember there’s a visual band called LAREINE covered this song at 90’s. LAREINE was a rosy band and its members even dressed like Rose of Versailles’ characters back then.
This version surely was completely different with LAREINE’s version or the original version. Dancho and MiA gave an entirely brand-new-Bara wa Utsukushiku Chiru with heavy rock and metal elements. They replaced it signature violin melody with guitar, which sounded pretty cool. I think someone who listened to this version without knowing the original or LAREINE’s version wouldn’t expect that it was covering a classic 80’s dramatic Shoujo anime’s theme.
I appreciate their creativity, but I felt completely lost when I listened to it.
Why should Dancho scream? Where did the image of beautiful Rose of Versailles go?
I wish they spare some parts for something that sounded more ‘Berubara-ish’ so people who listened at least know that this isn’t a mecha anime song
Score for this track: 3.27 of 5

    「キューティーハニー」from Cutie Honey covered by RYO:SUKE(WING WORKS)×涼平(メガマソ)
When I read this track on the list, I thought “Really? They will cover such song?!”
Then I listened to (again, actually I watched on YouTube) WING WORKS’s song called 不死鳥-FENNIX- and after looking that Ryohei accompanied RYO: SUKE for this track, I began to think that it would turn out like Kaya’s cover of Moonlight Densetsu.
...And I think I wasn’t entirely wrong. I didn’t expect (or I didn’t want) RYO:SUKE to sing in a flirty style like the original version of Cutie Honey and fortunately he didn’t sing as flirty as how the original version did. The music was also pretty creative, but still kept the bounchy Cutie Honey theme well.
Overall, this track is amusing! Honey Flash!
Score for this track: 3.63 of 5

「プラチナ」from Cardcaptor Sakura covered by 谷本貴義× 那オキ(THE BEETHOVEN)
Anyway, I’m a fan of Takayoshi so I think this part is more subjective than the rest of this review.
As we know, the original version of Platina was a light, bright, soft, fluffy and easy listening song.
Takayoshi sang this song pretty well. He kept this song bright and light all the way. Naoki’s bass went well along with this song, and some guitar parts gave a pretty good impact.
I personally am impressed with the guitar pars at this song because it could keep ‘brightness’ of this song and give a punch as well. Anyone knows who’s filled it?
I think I won’t mind if CLAMP inserted this version into some of Carcaptor Sakura’s episodes.
Score for this track: 3.85 of 5

「残酷な天使のテーゼ」from Neon Genesis EVANGELION covered by HAKUEI(PENICILLIN)× 風弥(DaizyStripper)
When I was a mere kid, I thought that the singer of this song was the one who sang Magic Knight Rayearth’s Theme Song. Based on that experience, I thought HAKUEI would sing like Yugiri for this song.
How HAKUEI and Kazami did with this song surprised me. They made an entire jazzy song from that classic EVANGELION theme. This cover started smoothly sweet with piano and HAKUEI’s soaked voice and then surprisingly followed by a jazz melody which I felt very brilliant.
Actually, I’m not into HAKUEI’s vocal and his groan at some parts felt creeped me out, but I think this cover is creative and interesting and well done. Kazami also did well at this track. His drums made this song felt more jazzy. Maybe he’s accustomed with jazz songs?
Score for this track: 3.93 of 5

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this compilation because I could find various types of music here.
I heard there’s a compilation where many visual bands covered song titled ‘妄想日記’ in various ways. I think it must be interesting!

Mabuta reacted to Zeus in #10: 氷の中の少女 by JUPITER
Artist: JUPITER Single: 氷の中の少女 Score: Bland power metal single take three.
氷の中の少女 is the newest single before their sophomore album THE HISTORY OF GENESIS, which will feature all six songs from their last three singles. While hyped at first because it was going to feature four members of theatrical power metal outfit Versailles, JUPITER has failed to deliver any release - let alone any song - that gives them their identity. I don't follow JUPITER religiously, choosing to check out a release of theirs now and again to see if their sound has changed. Since this, as well as ARCADIA, is indicative of the sound on their upcoming album, it's looking pretty weak right now.
氷の中の少女 is another run of the mill power metal track. It has Hizaki written all over it, and it's clear he's lost his touch. He's always used the same bag of tricks, but it's never felt so familiar and rehashed. The ambitious, grandiose tinge to the tone of the song, as well as the variety and inspiration from different eras of classical music are gone. It's been replaced with a more commercial, accessible, and unoffensive sound. Since it's been this way since the beginning of their career, it's a deliberate attempt to either distance themselves from previous bands or to compensate for Zin's peculiar singing style. Whatever the reason is, it's not working.
On one hand, I shouldn't be comparing this band to previous bands by these members. On the other hand, when all the complexity and camp is stripped from the music this is what's left. A part of me is bothered that four of the most talented musicians in modern visual kei are producing music of this caliber. Teru, Masashi, and Hizaki all have vastly different compositional styles, yet I don't sense a synthesis of their influences anywhere. Zin sings with clarity and control, but has no power or presence. He's at odds with the quick, demanding melody. Hizaki and Teru are more concerned with twin guitar riffing than with the overall direction of the song. The result is a song that while technically demanding, doesn't go anywhere. Those with a preference for guitar will adore this song; for the rest of us it goes in one ear and out the other.
The crucial ingredient of diversity, missing from 氷の中の少女, is present on SACRED ALTER. This sounds like a Teru creation, but I could always be wrong. JUPITER like to switch it up by producing a faux-thrash number, and most of the time it complements the usual bright and cheery affair well. It starts out with a spoken voice section over violin and electronic beat before going into riffs with some groove and body. Even the rhythm section feels invigorated and all the life missing from the first song is here. That's where all the praise ends. Zin can't growl, so he improvises with a combination of an awkward rasp, a falsetto that would make Asagi blush, and poor harsh vocals. He was able to get by on Darkness by just sticking with the rasp, but his need to be diverse does more harm than good. The falsetto in the chorus is the tipping point, as it doesn't harmonize with the sudden change in the melody. Overall, it was an experiment that didn't work so well this time. Jupiter need to either accommodate for Zin or do something else, because this type of music does not suit his voice.
What frustrates me most is that the song with the goofy vocals has all the drive and energy and their actual single feels so dead. 氷の中の少女 has a feel of "been there, done that" and models the previous single ARCADIA in both composition, construction, and mood. It fails to distinguish itself in any way. I must sound like a broken record by now, but there's an insurmountable wall between the band and I. There's a crucial element missing to their music and I can't put my finger on what it is. If we could take the energy from SACRED ALTAR and mold it to complement Zin's singing, we would be cooking with gas. But I don't understand why Hizaki and company decided to go with Zin as a vocalist if they weren't going to make music he could keep up with.
Time is ticking for this band. THE HISTORY OF GENESIS better have some killer tracks that define this band's modus operandi, or they will soon fall into obscurity.
