Traxan 148 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) So this video is being passed around my Facebook feed by a bunch of friends. Now, knowing Japan's penchant for contrivances (AKB48, Babymetal) and the whole maid cafe obsession, I initially dismissed it. Now I'm not so sure. For starters the song is really fucking good, so I want it to be real. So does anyone know if these girls are a genuine band, formed by the members and writing their own songs, or if they are an agency creation? doombox 4421 Posted April 13, 2015 All their music seems to be credited to composer Akutsu Kentaro, so I don't think they are a 'real' band. Their record company also looks like it takes regular auditions... I'm betting this is an fringe idol group. Apparently this composer also writes for PASSPO☆. 1 enyx reacted to this

Traxan 148 Posted May 26, 2015 Clip of a new song https://twitter.com/bandmaid/status/595186339684814849 And unlike 99% of Japanese bands, they are making a real effort to reach out to English-speaking foreign fans through Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/bandmaid
Traxan 148 Posted June 17, 2015 New music video. This band is really growing on me. That guitar solo breakdown is SICK. 1 doombox reacted to this
deathangel 1105 Posted June 23, 2015 Hope to hear more from them as their recent single 愛と情熱のマタドール is really good.
Traxan 148 Posted July 25, 2015 Interview with the girls in English. Confirms the rumor that one of them actually did work in a Maid Cafe. http://jrock247.com/2015/07/band-maid-interview-2015/ 1 doombox reacted to this

Traxan 148 Posted February 1, 2016 This article: http://nihongogo.com/2016/01/band-maid-fans-mount-drumstick-campaign-for-injured-drummer/ Says drummer Akane has been out of action with an injury for two months, but the writer was sloppy because he did not say what kind of injury would keep her out of commission for two months. Just how badly was she hurt?

Well as seems to be pointed out, their roots are with a talent agency and their songs may be composed by someone else (thanks for finding that out by the way, I wasn't aware.) This being said, I had the pleasure of seeing them perform live in May and I can say without a doubt I would not for a second doubt that they are a "real" band. They can certainly perform the music extremely well.
