I'm a huge fan of both Studio Ghibli and classic Disney so this is hard, especially for Studio Ghibli, but if I had to choose I'd go for these two: Studio Ghibli: Howl's Moving Castle No matter how many times I watch this I'm left in shock by the creativity in work here. It's insane. The film is nothing but a creative masterpiece in both its storytelling, but also in it visual wonderworld. In many ways childish, but will still give many a man much to think about. Brilliant film! Disney: The Great Mouse Detective The setting, characters, animation, voice work (Vincent fucking Price, man!) and honest homage to Sherlock Holmes just makes this my favourite, and it's probably been my favourite since I first saw it in the mid 90's. Its darker and more stylish than most Disney films, which along with the obvious 190's noir inspiration really makes it really stand out from the rest. An unsual choice for sure, but I consider this one of the 5 best animated films ever, and one of the most underrated ones. So hard, man. But if I had to choose between the studios, I'd go for Ghibli since their weakest film (Tales from Earthsea) is a rather good effort. Not a masterpiece, but I've enjoyed it both times I've watched it. Disney at its worst is godawful.

You should. Great band. The demo is superb too.

Ant-Man - I was really looking forward to this without having too high of expectations, because MCU-films are such a rollercoaster-ride. But in the last few years they really seem to have found a way to make it work properly, and this is the best film in the MCU alongside Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And alongside The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man is easily the freshest film in the universe as well. Both offers soemthing completely different from the rest of the films. They are deeper and seem to have amuch bigger focus than just being another action-adventure with silly oneliners. The Winter Soldier is easily the best plotwise, being a proper thriller with a fairly good plotand all, while Ant-Man is a proper action-comedy that delivers on both action and comedy. The funniest film till now for sure, and the best film action-wise. It doesn't have the story of The Winter Soldier, but the action and comedy makes up for it as it's filled with well-made action and hilarious comedy. And... wait for it... wait for it... wait for it... it features the best MCU-villain til now! The cast is good, with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, T.I. and Anthony Mackie are all great, but Corey Stoll steals the show as the villain. He's got a certain madness about him that I just love. Yeah! Great as a regular action-comedy, great as a heist film. Great as everything. Also, other MCU-directors should learn from Peyton Reed, because he proves that even though this is a superhero movie, less can be more, which is certainly is here. It's a very stripped down film for being a superhero film. Superb!

Triumvir Foul, who I have been praising like mad since their 2014 demo was released, released their debut album yesterday. Death metal with a very foul stench, just the way I like it. The band makes me think of bands such as Abhorrence, Necrovore, Swallowed and Autopsy. The demo is one of the best death metal releases in modern times, and the album doesn't seem to stand back from it at all. Sounds really god damn good after a few listens.

Descendant of the Sun - Weird, crazy, over the top, charming, colorful and fun wuxia from 1983. This is crazy wuxia mixed with Superman and Hercules, with a cool duel "stolen" from The Sword in the Stone. There's lots of shooting lazers from eyes and hands, exploding people, flying and weird-as-fuck moments here, but the film is lots of fun, the sets looks amazing and it's beautifully shot. For most people this ain't but a silly, childish and laughable film, but for me, a huge fan of martial arts, wuxia and over the top fantasy, there's nothing to not enjoy here. I really liked this film. So much fun! The Young Avenger - Cool, fast-paced martial arts film that at times is almost too face for its own good. The first 2/3 of the film is geat, but the third act, which consists of more or less only action, is a bit too fast for its own good. But I was very much entertained by this fairly standard actioner.

Two Champions of Shaolin - Awesome shaolin-themed flcik by Chang Cheh. The film stars several of the Venom Mob, and is a Shaolin vs. Wu Tang film, which of course is cool as fuck. The film is fairly easy to follow, but the fights will have you down on your knees, gaping. There's some truly impressive fights here, with choreography straight from heaven. Top shelf stuff, guys. While this isn't anywhere near Chang Cheh's very best, it's still bloody fantastic. A must-watch for sure!

FInished Terriers today and thought it was excellent. I can't believe this was cancelled after just one season. Smart, witty and charming with some lovely characters and fantastic chemestry between many of them. Totally recommended! And started on The Good Guys. First episode had me in tears. Hilarious action-comedy about two cops, one old, old school co and one young, modern cop. Can't wait to continue on this series.

The Battle Wizard - Over the top and batshit fucking crazy wuxia, just the way I like it. It's much in the vein of other crazy wuxia films like Holy Flame of the Martial World, Buddha's Palm and The Bastard Swordsman I & II, and it's really fucking weird and cool. It's short and fairly simple, but I really liked the story (based on the novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils), and it's filled with cool characters, crazy-as-fuck special effects as whatnot. It's pretty brutal too, with legs being shot off, arms ripped of its body, heads exploding and more. Weird, wicked and goofy, but damn is it entertaining. Top, top notch!

Shit, what a weather. I can't wait to get out in about 40 minutes when it's blowing 12 m/s. I'm pretty sure we've had something like 25 m/s this night though. Sure as hell did sound like it a few hours ago. It's lovely as long as I am inside, but I am not feeling like going out in this weather.

I'm hearing lots of good things about this film: Krampus, made by Michael Doughert's (Trick 'r Treat). A christmas horror-comedy based on Krampus from Alpine folklore. It's got people like Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner and Allison Tolman in the cast. It looks like we're in for a real treat here, guys.

When you say "supertight almost-drum machine like metal drumming" my first thought were Deathgaze. Super triggered drums with machine-esque sounding clicking "bass" drums. Heh.

House of Traps - Amazing Chang Cheh flick in the vein of The Masked Avengers, Five Deadly Venoms, Crippled Avengers and Five Element Ninjas. Pure exploitation martial arts. Sure, the plot is simple and straight-forward, but it is, in many ways, creative and fresh. House of Traps is an action-packed martial arts film with elements of wuxia, and the god damn Venom Mob! It's the kind of film Chang Cheh perfected, and the type of film which will entertain any martial arts fan. Brillant stuff as usual from my god Chang Cheh!

But I was also served something similar at my friend's party not too long ago that I just loved, so it might just be that my taste has changed a lot lately. Makes me feel very manly. What a man I am!

You need to give the bacardi razz a new hance, mate. I've never been a big fan of shit like bacardi, but I was going out with my girlfriend a few weeks ago and she made this to me. I was sold. It's so good. She hated it, though. She used to like it, but it didn't do much for her anymore, so I got the whole bottle for myself. Brilliant!

Going to see Martyrdöd live tongiht. Should be cool as fuck. Warming up with Bacardi Razz with Sprite and lime, as well as beer, and I'm making nachos. Should be a nice evening, especially if they are capable of recreating the brutality from their earlier albums live. Yeah!

Phantasm IV: Oblivion - Aside frmo a couple of cool scenes, this is nothing but a big, fat mess. It goes further towards the sci-fi world that they started with part III, and there's barely any horror left here at all. On the positive side we have Reggie Bannister and Angus Scrimm playing the same roles as in the three previous ones, and A. Michael Baldwin returns for the role as Mike, which he played in the first film, but which was played by another actor in part II and III. That, as well as the gore and non-CG special effects are the positives here. But aside from that there's not much of interest here. There's no sense of being in a bad nightmare anymore, and it's just boring, man. Also, there is a new Phantasm coming next year. It should be finished and all now, but I'm not sure how high my expectations is. It'll be the first not to b directed by Don Coscarelli, but maybe that's a good thing considering the quality of this one? He's still the writer, though. It's been 17 years since this, and I am looking forward to it, though. Shuld be fun. Creature from the Black Lagoon - A well-deserved rewatch of a monsterously good film. The suspense is incredible in this, and as far as Universal Monsters goes this is easily among the most suspenseful ones. The soundtrack every single time The Creatue/Gill Man appears is so good, and the way they slowly let us know what he is just makes him even scarier. Everything about it is so good. The atmosphere, the susense, the monster design. So, so good!

Phantasm II - This took me by surprise. I'm not sure why, but I expected something pretty bad from this. But this was actually really fun. Sure, it's not exactly on the level of the first one, but it' still great. It got the whole "bigger is better" thing, and it's more violence, more over the top and got more over the top use of weapons. A bit like Evil Dead II, which is fun because I often get the feeling that there's a lot of homages to Evil Dead in this film. Double shotguns, chainsaw duel, explosions. Yeah, it's got it all. However, it lacks the nightmareish atmosphere of the original and the overall punch of the original. But it's still very, very good, and the special effects are top shelf. So good, man! Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead - Bigger and more complex, but again it lacks the punch of the previous one. A huge step down from Phantasm II, but it's still entertaining. Lots of great special effects. I was afraid they'd go with a lot of CG as this is from the mid 90's, but they didn't, which is good. Not very good, but still worth a watch. I like how these films makes less and less sense with each entry. Heh!

The Masked Avengers - Super classic Chang Cheh flick in the vein of Five Deadly Venoms, Crippled Avengers and Five Element Ninjas. In other words, it feature his cool, exploitation-like martial arts fun with lots of blood, likeable characters and cooler-than-ice villains, and of course several of The Venom Mob guys, both some older and some newer ones. There's also a certain wuxia-inspiration here. The plot is very simple and straght-forward: a bunch of masked guys have been terrorizing the countryside, killing, raping and stealing, and a bunch of friends try to investigate this on their own and find out who these masked killers are. And as with Five Deadly Venoms, the killers doesn't know eachothers identity, nor do we, which makes it a cool and interesting mystery. Simple, but very captivating and cool. It's what you call effective. The Masked Avengers has to nice exploitation-feel to it and is all about well-choreographed fights, blood ad violence. If you like your martial arts films with an exploitation-feeling to it, then this will please you for sure. Nothing to not like here. Another perfect Chang Cheh film! And I just can't say it enough: Chang Cheh was a genius! Among my favourite filmmakers for sure. Easily top 3! I need to check out even more of his film. What a man! The Time Machine - No, not the shitty remake, you dork. I still remember seeing the remake together with a bunch of my friends. It was abysmal, and it took me years to check out. However, I did check it out and it was fantastic, and it still is. OK, so it leaves some of the ideology of the original story behind and makes it into more of a fun sci-fi adventure without much depth to be honest. But it's a really fun adventure with a superb Rod Taylor in the lead. Best thing about the film? When our lead is just sitting in his time machine and slowly going into the future. It looks so good, man. Beautifully done! Great special effects too. Beats anything CGI 7 days a week, you fucks.

I'm sure it'll be among the 3 best of this year for sure. And I expect that at least four of these films ends up on my list, maybe even more then four too: Straight Outta Compton, Ip Man 3, The Witch, Dope, The Cannibal in the Jungle, The Green Inferno, The Final Girls, Deathgasm, Insidious: Chapter 3, Flowers, The Assassin, We Are Still Here, Ant-Man, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, The Gift, The Visit, There's also a few documentaries I just can't wait to see: 42nd Street Memories: The Rise and Fall of America's Most Notorious Street Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II Satan Lives Club King Cartel Land And if I include documentaries I expect some of these to make it on the list too. Especially the two first there. Looks neat as fuck!

Finished True Detective season 2 again, and I still like it a lot. OK, so it's not the perfect 10 like the first season, but a good 8 for sure IMO. Biggest problem is that it's a bit too complicated for 8 episodes. With all these characters and shit, it should've been twice as long. But it's very good for what it is. 8/10. Started on Terriers yesterday. Two eisodes in and it's really good so far.

Folk/celtic/gypsy punk's cool a fuck. If that shit doesn't put you in a good mood you deserve an axe buried so far up your ass your head splits. And that's that, fucks.

This weather, man. I usually don't mind the cold, rain, snow and shit, but now that I was into such a fine pattern with running each morning beforw work am it's so annoyed that it's icy on the road. Doesn't matter if I run before work or after, as it's icy and dark in the morning and wet, icy and dark when I'm home. Running on ice isn't my cup of tea, but I can't stop now either. I'll fall, break something and hit my head, which will get me hospitalized for half a year or something. It's written in the ice, man. It truly is. And I bought new, expensive shoes to give myself a small boost and a bit more inspiration, which means I sure as hell can't stop now. Would feel awful if I stopped running now that I've bought shoes specially for running. Cheap fuck, that's what I am.

Bone Tomahawk - My expectations to this film was mad high, and I was not disappointed. Bone Tomahawk is, as a western, is up there with films such as The Good, the Bad, the Weird, The Proposition and Django Unchained as the best of the last 25 years, and as a horror film it's up there with films like Red Nights, The Editor, Ringu, Frankenstein's Army, Frankenweenie, Brotherhood of the Wolf and more, a the second best of the last 25 years. Well, the film is up there with the masterpiece that is Tremors, another western-horror that's beyond awesome. Bone Tomahawk is the debut film of newcomer S. Craig Zahler, and what a debut it is. Bone Tomahawk is a really, really slow-burning western-horror that takes its time to build tension and atmosphere, and uses plenty time on its characters. The first 70-80 minutes or so are a pure western-drama which will be way too slow for many, but I thought it was excellent and it kept me mroe than interested for those minutes. However, suddenly it explodes into a brutal and bleak cannibal horror film that'll take you back to the golden days of cannibal films. It's that bloody good, guys. The film stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins and Matthew Fox, all whom are most excellent here, and the chemestry between these guys are fantastic. Yeah, the film is slow-burning, but it's always rewarding and the atmosphere that it builds are incredible. The blood and gore? To, top shelf, mates. It doesn't get better. David Arquette is brilliant in his short time on screen, and watch out for the cameo of the always so excellent Sid Haig. It's impossible to miss! Fuck this shit, guys. You know, what I am really trying to say is that this is a motherfucking masterpiece, and the film of the year (so far) for me. Do you like westerns? Watch it. Do you like horror films? Watch it. Do you like cannibal films? Watch it. Do you like exploitation films? Watch it. Do you like good films? Watch it. Just motherfucking watch it!

True Detective season 1 is up there with the very, very best ever created for TV- Superb in every single way! Funny you should mention True Detective as I started my first rewatch of the very underrated season 2 yesterday. It's not up there with the first seaosn, but that was not to be expected and I see no reason to compare it to the first season either as that will only leave you disappointed. Sure it's a part of the True Detective series, and it's written by Nic Pizzolatto, but that's all they got in common. Season 1 was more about atmoshere, darkness and mystisicm while this is a purer police drama/crime series, more about the crime aspect and less about the atmosphere. I'm also sure it got a lot of crap because of Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, and especially Vaughn. I don't get why, though, as both are great actors when they choose the right roles. Give them a good script and both are phenomenal. Vaughn is an unusual casting, so I could see why people was a bit sceptic about him. But Matthew McConaughey was just as much an unusual casting as Vaughn, but I didn't see people complain too much about that. Probably because they didn't know what to expect at all. But he pulled it off, and so does Vaughn. Finished Jessica Jones too. I'd say while it started off better than Daredevil, it ultimately ended on the same level. After the 5-6 first episodes, the dark noir-influence seemed to slowly go away, and that was what made it better for me. But it's on par with Daredevil, and I thought it was most excellent to be honest. Just really cool, and Krysten Ritter and David Tennant are both phenomenal! Also, I have seena lot of complaint about the series, and most of them complaina bout the lack of good male characters. I bet my ass these cunts are the same who enjoyed the first season of True Detective, despite its lack of good, female characters. Heh! It's bullshit alright.
