i don't think i've posted in these threads before but i have to do it this time because August was simply a phenomenal month for hirokicore lol. it wouldn't be an exaggeration at all to say that August was the best single month for me since i started listening to vk :') My top 5 Purple Stone - パニックパニック. The title track is insanely addictive. B-sides are milder and more restrained but still distinctly Purple Stone. Basically this was the perfect balance between the band's new eclectic mixture-kei & their older straight-up rock style, with some jazzy elements thrown in (i wonder if it's because they've been touring quite a bit with アンフィル and グラムへイズ lately lolol). Take a look at the PS artist thread if you wanna read what I think of individual tracks! アンフィル - Step bye step. Truth be told, I wasn't a big fan of their last single パロ二リア (it sounded like an amateurish attempt at グリモア's kind of music), but Step bye step is all about what Anfiel does best. I still can't get over the 気分転換 (how do i translate this... 'mood change'??) at the exact moment Shogo's vocals came in after the opening instrumentals. His light and hazy vocals give an incredible amount of texture to the song and it's unbelievable how he's able to create so many vocal details with perfect ease. Probably my favorite Anfiel song (for now). VK will surely be a poorer place without Shogo. Ok i'll spare you my gushing. B-sides are also very very good, especially Sense of wonder. FoLLoW - FoLLoW. This was an amalgam of their single tracks + a handful of new tracks. Honestly their old tracks were better than the new songs, but i'm not complaining at all because there isn't an outright bad song in the entire album. And as their first full album--one that's appropriately self-titled--it definitely gives the newcomer an excellent taste of the range of sounds FoLLoW traverses with ease; from their energetic dance songs to heartbreaking ballads to Masashi's signature rap. I'm still obsessed with ピノキオ so that's the standout track for me. CLØWD - TENDERLOIN. I was not impressed with their mini album, so thankfully their first full album was 1000 times better. Tomorrowland is absolutely stunning. We all know that Kou's best with the upper register of his chest voice (as opposed to his cringeworthy Elmo squeaks in some of their ballads) and coupled with an extremely memorable chorus that's impeccably arranged, there's literally nothing I can think of that would make this song better than it already is. I never thought they would ever make a better song than #夏の微熱 after they entered a mini-slump after that single but they did. The only questionable thing about this album is its title... I'm still trying to figure out what it refers to. ペンタゴン - 絶叫! - I've already commented copiously on this in the Recommended tracks thread so I won't repeat myself. But yes, Teenage. is the kind of song i live for :')))) (500 plays already...) I listened to their full album again after peffy urged me to, and I found it better than I ever remembered it being, but this mini album is on a different tier altogether. I'm also becoming badly addicted to Chizuru's vocals.... Other releases that would ordinarily be more than good enough for my monthly top 5, if not for how great the releases ^ were: Anli Pollicino - Alternative Mirage. ZON - Re:Night ATRUS - LUST VAMPIRE i.Rias - L.L.サマー!!! (thank god they've given up on writing songs that sound like 3 songs in 1) CANIVAL - 悩殺毒的ロマンティック I still haven't listened to BLESSCODE's CD, so August's releases can only (belatedly) get better.

Here are my thoughts.. Panic panic: Fucking amazing... i doubt i need to say more lol. This song tries to do so many things at once: the pseudo electro-Japanesque opening section, the random chiptune effects reminiscent of the highly idiosyncratic phase of early LEZARD, accelerated rap sections, the ultra addictive chorus that is also the lynchpin of the song which ties together all the disparate elements. It's such a bold effort that really attempts to bring something different to vk, a desire that the members have repeatedly emphasized. At least for me, it was a huge success. AND I LOVE FUMA'S LYRICS... what's with the "yappari purin ga tabetai ze!" LOL. Well anyway, despite its "fun" appearance, it's actually quite a suggestive and thought-provoking song if you dig into the lyrics - they are self-reflexive on multiple levels. キャットウォーク: I'm really into this! The overall ambience of the song is slightly retro-sounding but the verse has such a nice beat and phrasing and it never loses its edge. I love especially how it builds up to the pre-chorus which then leads into a completely Purple Stone-ish chorus. Actually this song reminds me quite a lot of 浮キ世ニ咲ケ. I hope I can hear it live one day 嘘つきピエロ: The title already sounds like an アンフィル song, so I wasn't surprised when it turns out that this is arguably the jazziest track that Purple Stone has written. As expected, the diminutive verse brings us to a much more explosive chorus where their signature "rock" elements are foregrounded. I actually enjoy the overall swing-y groove of the song a lot because I feel it has brought something new into their toolbox that I can see them harnessing really well in future. MASK: A very nostalgic throwback to NEXUS-era Purple Stone, with some parts of the instrumentals reminding me even of Scar. All in all i think it's a good solid song that thrives on the very well-executed basics that Purple Stone had when they first started and before they began to infuse other elements into their sound. I can understand if this song sounds a little flat to the newer fans of Purple Stone, although I personally have no complaints at all. 10/10 single <333

yeah i totally feel you XD these days when i translate longass interviews i actually force myself to do it from my phone so that i don't spend too much time on them LOL. what i do is simply read the entire question or answer in the original, remember the gist of it, then type it out in english. i can't say if this works for other people, but i've managed to get reasonably fluent and accurate (though not perfect ofc) translations this way while retaining my sanity. i've also given up on translating lyrics because i can't do it without feeling like i've butchered the original lyrics somehow if i don't append 10 pages of footnotes hahaha cute <3

^ interesting interview, thanks for translating! nice to know the origin of their band name haha and as an aside: i also hope that more people can appreciate how much time/effort it takes to translate these stuff in general.

i'm not sure.. it's definitely either vistlip or purple stone. probably the latter because of the ridiculous number of chekis i've bought (more than enough to pay a year's worth of bills i think).. it also doesn't help that i buy their cds in this manner:

you're an ALvino fan? damnnn i never thought i'd find one here. i've loved them since... snow line XDDD i'm also too embarrassed to reply to this topic, but yeah, a lot.

WELL i promise to keep my fangirling to the minimum and comment on the music only XD you've got no idea how happy i am to see @doomboxpick panic panic <3 tbh though, as big a purple stone fan as i am, i initially had a little trouble getting into the flow of the song because of how structurally loose i felt it was. but on hindsight it was probably the "live cut" of the youtube PV version i've watched countless times that made the apparent discontinuity appear a lot worse than it actually is. on record the free-form segment is still there, but as with the case of Aoi yami, it actually segues quite nicely into what came before/after. i'm not even gonna talk about how addictive the chorus is - it's been stuck in my head since the very first time i heard it ._. i have no idea how purple stone can come up with one catchy chorus after another when that seems like the one thing so many 'big' bands are having trouble with atm. the other pick from this list i thoroughly enjoyed is pentagon's mini. now i've always been rather lukewarm towards the capricious 'carnival' side of pentagon's repertoire, which seems to be the main appeal (?) for the bulk of their fans haha. yet there's something about chizuru's voice that imparts their ballads and pop songs with a quality that's quite different from those of other vk bands. i'm still not 100% certain, but my hunch here is that he has an intuitive knack for using a 'relaxed' enunciation (as opposed to, more conventionally, dynamics or tempo shifts) to alter the melodic shape of the song. to get a taste of what i'm referring to, listen carefully to the section beginning 3:48 of 線香花火: it's really obvious here with the instruments down. in any case, i love 線香花火 and think it's a competent ballad, but Teenage. was the song that totally won me over <3 EVERY single bit of the song is perfect - the opening synths, the autotuned verse, the spacey chizuru falsettos floating over the syncopated phrasal breaks of the chorus (edit: i just realized i'm a huge sucker for this last feature because my fave pentagon song MAKEINU has the exact same thing going on o.o)... yeah, like everything. i'm listening to it right now as i'm typing this.
