I am listening to my Grado 325i headphones as I type this. No matter how much I listen to them, I am continually blown away by how amazing they make the music sound. It really sounds as if you are sitting on-stage with the band, being surrounded and lost in music. The treble is clear as a whistle, and the bass is so vibrant and defined.

One main difference between the SR80i described earlier and the SR325i is upgraded drivers. When selecting manufactured drivers for the 80is, Grado allows for a 1% variation in driver matching. The 325is only allow for a .05% variation. The frequency response is 18-24 compared to the 20-20 on the 80i. What this translates to is more detail and crispness on the highs and the lows.

Getting away from the numbers, some of the differences that you'll notice right away is a leather rather than vinyl headband, aluminum air chambers rather than plastic, and a much thinker cable. The cable has been upgraded to UHPLC copper voice coil wire. This higher purity copper wire will improve the quality and stability of sound in the upper and lower frequency range. The aluminum air chambers help cut down on transient distortion, and the leather headband just feels super comfortable. :)

Grado SR325is cost $299 new, but some great deals can be had by buying them used. I found mine used but in perfect condition on Head-Fi for only $199

Different Grado models come with different cushions as stock.

S-cush - these come stock on the 60i, 80i, and 125i. I have never tried them, but the lack of a direct pathway between the drivers and your ear can muffle sound a bit is what I've read.

L-cush - these come stock on the 225i, 325i, RS2, and RS1. They can also be bought separately for about $20. Sound quality is drastically improved since there is now a n unobstructed path between your ears and the drivers. I've read reports that they are quite a bit more comfortable than the S-cush pads, but I still found them to hurt my ears after a few hours as they sit on top of your ear rather than around it.

G-cush - These are what I currently use on my 325is. They are much bigger, so they create a larger soundstage. They are the most comfortable thing I have ever put on my head. I can wear these for 8 or 10 hours at a time, and I even often forget I'm even wearing them. They cost $45 on Amazon.

There is an easy mod that you can do to increase the sound quality of the S-cush pads. Take a quarter and place it in the center, and then cut around it with a boxcutter or something to create a hole.

I have fallen in love with Grados and audio in general. I never knew music could sound this good, and I am now continually on a quest to find the best sound possible. Grados can also be modded like crazy to improve their sound and feel, no other headphones even come close in that area. With just a few cheap and easy mods, even the lowest model- the SR60i- can rise to the equivelent of other pairs that cost several hundred dollars.

  2. I bought a pair of Grado 325is last week used for $211 after shipping. I am absolutely loving them so far. Ever guitar chord and note seems alive and to flow around me. They seem to be a bit high on the treble though, sometimes a guitar chord will be so shrill as to almost be painful. Venting the drivers should help fix that problem though.

I'm using a pair of TTVJ flats right now, but they right bother my cartilage piercing after a while. I have a pair of jumbo G-Cush pads arriving in the mail today, so hopefully that will help.

I'd love to get these woodied someday.

  3. I really don't think the age DIFFERENCE is an issue. I actually didn't even know the exact age of the girl I just started dating until yesterday. She's 6 years younger than me (She's 19), but neither of us really care.

  4. My dream involved me falling into a pit of razor wire, and I would end up sinking deeper and getting slashed up every time I would struggle to get out. This has been a reoccurring one for years.

I wake up a lot during the night, so I tend to have many different dreams over the course of just a few hours.

  5. I really want to go back to dying my hair bright red and black again. Any suggestions?

My hair's shorter though, like just past my ears.

What do you think about these?

I freakin' LOVE Shun's hair. I'd have to grow mine out quite a bit to do that though, but I can still do that color scheme even with shorter hair.

  6. If you're into Within Temptation and Nightwish, you might want to try Versailles, and especially their album JUBILEE. It kind of gives off that symphonic vibe that you might be looking for. At least, that's what I think, because I both like those artists as well. If you like Vidoll, I'm pretty sure you'll like vistlip's THEATER album. Also, last but not least (since I see you're also into some older bands) give LUNA SEA's MOTHER album a try. It's as VK as you can get.

Thanks a bunch. I'll have to see if I can find those albums somewhere. I started listening to one of LUNA SEA's other albums, and I'm really liking it so far

  7. Holy crap they've updated Fitocracy a lot since this thread was started.

It's no longer in beta, so no invite needed.

I've been terribly addicted to Fitocracy. Being able to assign a numerical score to exercising has really helped me stay motivated.

  8. Google:

Apparently the first result is trying to teach me a definition of Valicious I was never aware of o.o

Only one result on the first page had to do with me, and that was from a forum about brewing beer

  9. There are a very few exceptions, but I feel that I'm able to have better conversations and be myself when I'm talking to people online. I don't have nearly the confidence when talking IRL about something of substance, and I usually end up tripping all over my words. Ideas seem to flow a lot easier when I'm typing than when I'm speaking.

I think there's something to be said for learning to 'connect' with someone online. If either of you move, the friendship and the way the both of you interact hasn't changed. I've had plenty of IRL best friends that fell out of touch when either of us moved away. Even with all the ways to talk online, they're heart just didn't seem in it unless it was face-to-face.
