I feel sick reading even part of that and definitely can't look at the photos. This situation is very depressing because knowing a little about the justice system in Japan I kind of doubt he will get any sort of serious punishment. Maybe there's some hope since she's Japanese, too.

This is so depressing, I liked Satsuki a lot in ReS and never imagined he was such a loser haha

Big ones: D (especially 7th Rose), D'espairsRay of course, Aliene Ma'riage (especially 21st Century), Girugamesh, lynch, Sadie (though their stuff is pretty spotty IMO), Gullet, some Kuroyume, Madeth Gray'll, Merry Go Round, some of Beast of Blood-era Malice Mizer Other random ones that come to mind: Nega, Grieva, VellaDonna, L'yse:nore (to some extent), Syndrome, Vice+Risk, Velze Dieulawahl, Blam Honey (if you like industrial), Chaos System

Hi all, My band Tides Away has a new EP out called Dissimilar. We experiment with a lot of different genres, including EDM, gothic rock, metal, and folk. Some of you may be familiar with my work with Licht:noir'e here (a band I started through MH), and you all know that I have a lot of VK influence in my songwriting, some of which carries over to this band as well. You can listen to the EP here: https://tidesaway.bandcamp.com/releases You can find us on Soundcloud here You can find us on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/tidesaway/ The EP is also available on Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify.

Has anyone heard this?

Which songs got better mixes? I kind of skipped over Vestige. Also pretty sure Gauze was their most expensive production, so that's probably why it sounds so good.

I have no idea what this is referencing

I've been in several bands that broke up due to weird personal issues. It's actually a lot better to keep it strictly professional if your actual job is making music with the band and it's not just a side project. Otherwise, all the things that happen between members personally inevitably carries over into the working relationship.

I'm very much looking forward to this

What on earth I used to really like his vocals in ReS, this is depressing
-
Bump. Remaining CDs $5 each.

Well I certainly wasn't expecting Ash to be so close to the original. Also, my first impression is that it sucks IMO. Pretty disappointing
-
So what's up with all the Star of David imagery in the backdrop for Grief on mode of Marrow of the bone?
-
Bump, prices lowered

I agree that Hydra sucks. My hot take is that Macabre might be their worst album

Bump, prices dropped

Honestly I think Gauze is great so I'm biased, but I would say this: Gauze treads very little new ground in any of its material, and if you've heard a lot of what VK was doing up to that point (which admittedly I hadn't at the time I first heard it), you probably wouldn't be that impressed. The limitations of Gauze are basically the limitations of that style of VK, because Gauze is the pinnacle of that sound IMO. It took a genre that was defined by quick and dirty, and gave it an injection of pop sensibility, a high budget, and lots of polish, and I think Dir en grey at that point in their career was really, really good at delivering on that sound.

Definitely 16th the way I would notate it, but it's up to interpretation, depending on what you consider the tempo to be. I would say it's ~135 bpm, and to me that's the most logical way to interpret it, but you could notate it differently if you wanted to Shinya is following Toshiya there with the kick pattern, but that's not really necessary since he's doing the same thing on the ride. I think it would sound better if he just did the kicks on the downbeat, or played off the swings in the vocals, but it's just a personal taste thing. It also sounds really sloppy live, but that's another issue altogether I guess.

Where can I read more about this? Sounds interesting/funny

I don't agree, actually. I have no idea how to notate this in plain text so I'll try to write it out, but the emphasis on the snare kick drum is constant 16th notes. There's sort of an implied swing in the rhythm of the vocals, but it is in 4/4. This is open to interpretation, but I think the drum pattern is actually supposed to simulate a 6/8 timing but since there's very little dynamics, it just sounds like a pounding 16th note pulse to me. The emphasis on the vocal part is not on the 1 of the measure, and definitely at the end of the phrase there's some triplets or dotted notes in there (I'd have to sit down and notate it out, I'm not sure after a few quick listens). I think the main part that bothers me is the 16th note kick pattern; it seems really at odds to the air-y, swing-y vocal pattern there. EDIT: typo

Idk I think Rinkaku is definitely in the bottom half of their songs. It's not the worst or anything, but it just seems really uneven to me. The chorus is also really odd, though it's interesting. I also don't like the drum part in the chorus, it really doesn't gel with the phrasing of the melodies IMO

He sounds good to me? I don't understand what you're referring to

Thank you all for the fascinating history on the lyrics and taboos. First I've heard of any of this. About OP's review though, I simply cannot understand why so many people hate "audrey" so much. That's one of my favorite DEG songs.

Not feeling the new Fukai, personally. It reminds me of the Obscure remake, in that the vocal melodies are so meandering and unsatisfying. Why take a concise, catchy vocal line and change it just to change it?
