  1. ^ I think it means you've never tried at all or have tried very little, but might be interested. For people interested in Gackt - Mars, Crescent, and Rebirth are good, solid Gackt classics. Mars is an especially great choice if you liked Gackt in Malice Mizer because his vocal style was still a bit similar to when he sang in that era. Everything else afterwards is either hit or miss; a lot of the music post-2008 is just outright bland and soulless in my opinion. @jduv86 For Sex Pistols, Never Mind the Bollocks is basically their only studio album so that's not too difficult, lol. I downloaded "The Essential Clash" just out of curiosity from iTunes a long while ago and ended up enjoying them, though I haven't heard much else. If you don't want to shell out $15 for a digital album, I'd probably look for a smaller compilation. The Beatles is a new one for me as well. This kid at my school gave me their whole discography on a flash drive last year and I haven't listened to everything yet, but so far my favorites have been Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour.

    Hello!!! Nice to meet you!!!
  6. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! When I get a better internet connection, I'll definitely check out some videos. @Tokage: Older Dead End is better than more recent Dead End imho, so I would try to look through their 80's albums before jumping forward post-reunion. The only album I have of them is the compilation "All in One" which has most of their "essential" tracks so that may be a good place to start.
  7. Okay, Zess. @Cat5: For X Japan, I recommend blue blood. It probably is one of their best albums to start from - its mostly 80's hair/speed metal and a couple of power ballads in between. At least it was the album that got me hooked on them. As for BJC, I recommend trying to see if you can find their two best of CD's "1991-1995" and "1997-2000." Pretty much that should be most of the BJC you'll ever need. For everyone who asked about Luna Sea, I highly recommend the Mother album as it seems to be very popular among new listeners from my experience. This album was somewhat their transition between being an exclusive visual kei band to completely losing the visual image. This was also the period when their music kinda changed from having the standard 80's/90's visual sound to a more mainstream/progressive sound. It also has some of their best, well-known songs such as "Genesis of Mind." @Gazerocksnob: As for Kuroyume, I recommend the Feminism album. It is more accessible than anything they did earlier in their indie days or their later punk-ish sounding music. I also personally think it's better than their new stuff which I think is boring and awful.
  8. Ging Nang Boyz are the shit, though they are just one of those crazy, noisy garage/punk bands not really anything particularly profound or special. Same with Blankey Jet City and Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, minus some of the crazy noisiness. Honestly, I like 'em but I don't love 'em. I have never heard from Japan: - Flower Travellin Band - Mono - Animetal or JAM Project (surprise, surprise) - Tokyo Yankees - Sex Machineguns - Tomoyasu Hotei - Tokyo Jihen - Cornelius - Mr. Children - Keiji Haino - The Mad Capsule Markets I also don't remember if I've really heard anything by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Maybe a looong time ago, but I hardly remember. Other: - The Grateful Dead - The Smiths - The Cure - David Bowie - The White Stripes - Marina & the Diamonds - Lana Del Rey - Bring Me the Horizon - Black Flag - Slayer (and a good 90% of most legendary/popular metal bands)

Cinema Staff - Their early EP's were good, in my opinion, but they still had a ton of newbie awkwardness to them. I've noticed, especially with everything they've released since 2012, that they've lost most of that weird awkwardness and have been working with some smoother, slightly more dynamic song structures. Their music has a ton more power and grit, while still managing to maintain those amazing melodies. The vocalist has definitely improved a ton; this was especially noticeable upon comparing past and present live performance DVD's. Bo Ningen - I haven't been a fan of them for long, but I've been listening to the entirety of their discography and it seems like they are always taking their music in new directions. I'm very excited to see what they have in store for the future.

Most of the musicians I like, through reading what I can of their blog entries and seeing them interact on stage or with fans, seem like generally decent, friendly people. The others either don't reveal enough about themselves for me to form a strong opinion, or they are just very complicated, difficult to read individuals. Chances are if they are horrible human beings, to the point where they deserve some kind of cruel treatment, I probably wouldn't be too enthusiastic about their music either. :/

On June 26, andymori will release their 5th full album "Uchu no Hate wa Kono Me no Mae ni." They will then have one last tour and then a final live performance in September at Nippon Budokan before they disband. According to what I can gather from Google Translate, the members of the band will probably continue to pursue other musical activities. http://andymori.com/ Really saddened by this right now.

  18. Number Girl

    LOL, could you imagine.
  19. Number Girl

Yeah . . . this shit is exactly why I quit keeping up with his shit. Seriously, he should have "disbanded" three years ago back when the retirement rumors were going around if this was all he was going to do with the remainder of his career. I miss back when he could put out REAL albums that were only maybe 10-30% previously released material instead of 100%. (Yeah, believe it or not I actually was a huge Gackt fan). I mean, I have a good idea of WHY he's doing this, but it really makes my respect for him plummet to the ground. :/
