Name: Let's just go with Meat Age: Old enough to remember Kuroyume Years studied: 10yrs+ Estimated level: Got N1 certified a few years ago but still really bad at speaking from lack of exposure and have problems with kenjougo (basically, I can respect others but I don't now how to lower myself :P) Knowledge of Hiragana/Katakana: All Kanji: approx. 8000 What is your main goal with studying Japanese?: I tell polite company that I want to be able to read Mishima Yukio but really I just want to be able to tell rude people in Japan to f-off What materials have you used before?: At uni we used Situational Functional Japanese. I also used JLPT N1&2 prep books and grammar dictionaries when self-studying. Nowadays I read manga, books, newspaper, etc. everyday to keep it going. And despite the lack of exposure to speaking & listening Japanese, it seems that my conversational Japanese has improved just from reading manga and listening to Jrock! Yoroshiku~

Oh cool. Can you link me to the translation to M-ology? I am curious to know what others make out of Black Flag Symptom but have not been able to find anything in Japanese. I think instead of posting some half-arsed translations of Gara's book, I can translate some bits that may be overlooked when I come across them. Ahh I didn't realise there's an excellent translation out there already (I should've googled harder!). Since it looks like an ongoing project, it won't be right for me to disrupt their work. Instead maybe I can post a summary of what happens in each of the untranslated chapter?

I'm not comfortable with sharing the full details of what Nero said about the police because I couldn't catch every single word. But if you are willing to go along with my understanding, it is that he said something like this to the police officers: "Don't judge people by their looks! I know how this works, I've seen it on TV! Go arrest someone else! " LOL My Japanese listening is not always that great but I am more than happy to translate Merry related stuff if there's anything anyone might want help with. I got the common non-fanclub 2 disc version, which to my surprise, meant 4 hours of all members of Merry sitting through and commenting on it. If anyone have the full 6 disc version, do you know if they literally comment on for over 6 hours? Lol Here’s some general/ random musings on Disc 2. I haven’t gone through Disc 1’s commentary yet. General The band made a lot of general comments on which bits of performance they think went well but the comments on the following stood out for me: Gekisei Komorebi ga boku wo sagashiteiru

I just watched the 10th Anniversary New Legends of High Color 6 Days dvd with the commentary turned on. The band made some interesting comments at various points, would anyone care to read a little write up on them? If so, where shall I post it? I will try and be brief but it might still be a bit long and I don't have a blog to link to.

It looks like they all have gone to Nikko for holiday together after the hectic tour

Hi @Kira_Uchiha, I just wanted to applaud your tremendously positive attitude in staying focused on what is important to you because not many depressed people do! Whilst it is important to keep moving forward, I hope this does not mean you feel you have to keep improving or 'make something of your life' so to speak, because that's just another kind of pressure.

I haven't been to gigs in Japan for more than 10 years but I think this may still be relevant for many gaijins going to gigs in Japan where there are crowd surfers: If you are taller than most bangyas (anywhere above 160cm I reckon) don't stand too near to the middle or the front, and take out big ear jewelleries like industrial bars. Being 170cm,I got kicked in the back of head a lot and my ears kept getting grabbed :/

There were tons of random/ funny moments from going to gigs both in Japan and in the UK here. But one of the most memorable for me is from MUCC's UK tour. The tour was organised by Kerrang so most punters were there to see other bands well known in the West, like Bring Me the Horizon, and have never heard of MUCC. MUCC was very well received in London but at their Norwich gig the band was effectively booed all the way through their set, with shouts of "Go home, Japs!" and "Don't know what you're saying! Speak English!". The entire audience (apart from me) stood still through their set and only occasionally nodded along. The band was visibly affected. At the end of their set, Tatsuro smiled and waved in a resigned way and the band just walked off stage. I left soon after and bumped into Yukke by the main exit. He was carrying their equipment out of the venue. I was very shocked at the fact no roadies or any other staff were around. I was so upset with the situation that instead of thanking him for coming all the way to the UK, I got emotional and felt compelled to apologise for the behaviour of my fellow countrymen and kept bowing. Yukke was totally cool though and just kept saying "It's nothing." The professionalism the guys displayed that night will always stay with me.

A few of you have mentioned "NO SMART". What is it? Is it a song I have somehow missed? :/

Hahaha that's what I think as well when I listen to them. I can't get into them now but maybe in another few decades... lol
