recently bought a really cheap used china SG-Junior copy in motherfuckin' pink! then did some modifications to it, new pickup covers and added a neck-pickup to it, great guitar!! now that is what i call an appropriate doom-metal axe kawaii as fuck

love those genre-tags gender-neutral hardcore? fake-shoegaze? brilliant^^ drumprogramming is cool, and the grooves go really well with the guitar now to the obligatory nagging to improve the overall appearance of the tracks i suggest doubling the guitars, that'll make the tracks immediately sound a bazillion times fatter (meaning, just play the whole rhythm guitar once more the same, and then pan one of the guitars to the right and one to the left) and maybe even add another guitar that makes some harmonics in the middle, also a bass could help (bass can pretty well be done with sample-instruments, no need for a real one, but if you find a cheap beat up one on a flea-market... ) well done for starters, keep on bangin'

i think i posted most of my discoveries in the "song of the day" thread, so i'll cross-post these in here in a compilation, i guess i'll add a few other ones afterwards Shining - great and very groovy/eery prg-math-metal band from norway i think Indian Handcrafts - already put their latest release in the best 2012 albums, but the self-titled predecessor is even better IMO Mare - they only did one album somewhen in mid 2000s i think, and it's a thing of utter beauty (yes, those 3 tracks belong together...) Chelsea Wolfe - well, she's the hot stuff pretty much everywhere right now anyways. i don't like her new acoustic album but it led me to find her older stuff, which is excellent excessive visage - it's just pretty music, very very pretty selectamood - another band from around here, party hard and in a weird way aldo raine - saw them live again here in berlin just a week ago, good music get their EP legally for free here (or pay them a little, they're nice dudes...) http://aldorainedoom.bandcamp.com/ AmenRa - they are a bit one-sided, but what they do, they do proper! Heaven In Her Arms - probably my main discovery this year, "Parselene" is an almost flawless record that spins my ipod quite frequently (if they'd just let out that completely out of tune violin in the end...) Soutaiseron - i actually just dig this one song of them, but this is great, it's music that tells you "everything will be fine" with cute kittens and unicorns and such, while still beeing only moderately cheesy^^ ok, i'll have to make another psot with all the other stuff later warning, will contain Kpop

this one is going to be pretty short, i did explore quite a bit, but not very much of it is japanese, and even fewer stuff is from 2012 but well: well, that was more than i thought, maybe 2012 wasn't so bad afterall...

congrats to zess, except for the guitar where he mixed up the wav and 320 it's all spot on otherwise as pretty much expected i just renamed my files and did a blind-test myself and personally i have to say in all honesty that i already have to concentrate pretty hard to even spot the 192 actually whilst between 320 and lossles i can only resort to guessing, maybe because i immediately focus on different production-type values like presumed microphone-placement saturation, reverb, compression (as in audio-compression, not digit-compression) and the likes, but maybe just because i suck at recognizing the aliasing one is also able to "learn" recognizing the aliasing-effects (yup, particular in the cymbals due to their broad-frequency-nature) so here the "official" results why thank you it's just a track that i'm currently working on, but there's plenty more where that came from *shamelessselfplug*viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11574 all downloadable

highly depending on eqipment though. whatever the specs may say, "common" equipment rarely goes above 18/19khz. let's see how much i can get... EDIT: ok, seems to be 19 for me, but i'm highly suspicious about that audiofile aswell, 44.100hz can not go higher than 20khz of audio-material anyways so i doubt there's any sound left up there... (and that is even before the lossy aac-compression) EDIT2: yup, as suspected, 19 is the last one that is actually in the file, and that one is already 11dB below the 8khz one. so everyone who heard 20khz and above has to thank the placebo-effect if you want to hear above that, you'd need to go for 48.000 file or higher. in addition to that due to lossy compression in that soundfile one often only hears aliasing-frequencies as opposed to the actual sinewave, so what comes out at 19hz is hardly actually that. i've made a 48.000 wav-file with 16khz, 18khz and 20khz right here which should be a little more representative... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test/sinetest.wav

  10. Hi there, since Mp3 bitrates and such are sometimes a pretty hot topic on MonchromeHeaven i decided to put up some direct comparisons for a few samples to let you hear or not hear the differences. to be sure not to have files that have been converted and changed/enhanced/compressed several times over and over i only took recordings that i've made myself to be completely sure of the SignalChain. that way obviously i'm limited in genres and such (for example no electronic-music...) and you have to cope with my terrible guitar+bass-skills, but still it should give a good impression of whatswhat... the order of bitrates is random. Test1: Flute+Harp - A http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20A.wav Flute+Harp - B http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20B.wav Flute+Harp - C http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20C.wav Test2: Guitar - A http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20A.wav Buitar - B http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20B.wav[ Guitar - C http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20C.wav Test3 SaxQuartett - A http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20A.wav SaxQuartett - B http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20B.wav Saxquartett - C http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20C.wav Test4 Mastered Band - A http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20A.wav Mastered Band - B http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20B.wav Mastered Band - C http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7899279/MP3Test ... 0-%20C.wav i have re-converted the mp3-files back to wav to let them have the same filesize+ending, so the quility is slightly worse than the original mp3, but i think that difference is not of major importance here. obviously this isn't really representable, tracks with a more "brickwall"-type of mastering might be more obvious in their quality as is electronic music, so this is just for random fun. whoever wants can just check the files with an analyzer to see the result, for everybody else i'll post the solution in a few days
  11. bonsaijodelfisch

goddammit that took a while, but i managed to get 50 together... some bands made the list quite a few times (Boris, DEG, Mucc...) but well that's just because they're that good

ok, since i wrote my last comment sort of in a hurry here a more thought through version.. about the allergic reactions to gun-control discussions in america those obviously seem to take place on FOX for the major part and i have to admit that i only watch fox through the catalysator that is jon stewart's the daily show. (he just did a roughly related skid on 10.dez...) i don't see anything that helps right now either, with the main problem being that there are so many guns around already. the closest estimate for guns in america seem to be around the 200-300 million mark which at a population of 314million makes either one gun for everyone, or probably closer 2 to 3 guns per household. the main factor is the whole almost exclusively american mindset to always be able to "defend" yourself (with it's most disturbing manifestation in those stand your ground laws ) obviously all this gun swinging like "bloodbath in wal-mart after dispute over bubblegum-prizes" or the sort, which seem to happen quite frequently aswell, but this is about the school-shootings so i'll focus on that. this site is disgusting and do yourself the favor not to read the "comments" but it was the best kind of statistics i could find on the matter. http://www.spreekillers.ch/index.php looking at it you'll see except for 5 people (6 if we don't count the self-built flamethrower) everybody had some sort of firearm with them. the thing is i guess that everyone of these massacers, be it of persons with misanthropic-suicide intentions, with diluted conspiracy-theory-obsessions, irrational hate on race/religion etc. only could become the tragedy they are, because the culprit had guns in direct access, be it in the guns-closet of the parents or even rightfully owning them themselves. so in essence, yes, making it harder to obtain weopans in the first place would be a good place to start, but it wouldn't make much of a difference right now. banning firearms completely would be ideal obviously, but is more or less not possible. same goes for background-checks and shooting-club registration, good start, but won't change a thing when there are 300million guns making the rounds anyways. (here in germany there often are some voluntary "get rid of your guns" collects with no questions asked. you wouldn't believe what people still have in their garages bombs, flamethrowers, cannons, mostly WWII-rifles though...) biggest problem as mentioned is that "protection and defending yourself" mindset of the US of A, resulting in nonsense like "more guns = less crime", which with a weopons lobby that strong will never change... also srsly? they do? and i thought we would finally be past that point...
  21. bonsaijodelfisch

and inb4 the republican right wing will wuss "now is not the time to talk about gun-laws" well hell fuckin yes right now is exactly the fuckin right time to talk about those fuckin guns dammit, when did you think it was? yes of course that's only treating the tool instead of the fool (sorry, just using the terms that the rightwing used) but fuckit, if those "fools" would run around with a swiss army knife they would be a hell lot less efficient/not even start at all... edit: post below... faith in humanity=lost
  22. bonsaijodelfisch

ah, so it actually was good? meant to watch it too but somehow didn't. guess my cinema budget will now place hobbit and django first...

sporting massive paranoia right now, i have been booked to record a classical demo-cd/video for a competition by some rich music-enthusiasts in berlin, usually no biggy and easy job. turns out the have just booked the teldex recording studios in berlin for that to happen!! http://www.teldexstudio.de/ which is as it happens one of germanys biggest and most important classical recording studios... holy mothefuckin' christ how am i supposed to fly this ridicculous spaceship? i mean technically i should be capable to do so and have done before, but still this is slightly frightening scared² just to give a comparison, usually i do this with a laptop+soundcard and a couple of microphones. - going to the booked room with the equipment - build stuff up, - hit record, - discuss with musician, - mix and export well, i guess i'm going to die
