I think it started when The Gazette were roadies for Dir En Grey. DeG thought that The Gazette were too good to be roadies, so The Gazette was formed as an official band. I guess DeG fans used the word roadies against Heresy to serve as a reminder that without Dir En Grey, that The Gazette wouldn't even have existed.

I recently saw an interview with the Gazette and they said they had never been roadies for other bands.

This video along with Fender's clip of J trying a model from their new Ultra series...

...makes me wonder why the Western music industry's big fishes' visibility of J-rockers (and thus their legitimacy over them as rock musicians) is happening today, with a VK scene deader than ever, both in Japan and abroad, and not in 2007.

Is 2020 going to be a revitalizing year for VK despite all our -accurately justified- apocalyptic thoughts?

I just posted the video with Die and Toshiya somewhere else on here. Didn't know about the one with J. I think it has to do with how rock has been dying in the west. In 2007 some form of it was still holding on in popularity. But now beggars can't be choosers and so anything that will get people talking/clicking is now fair game. A number of Japanese bands have been doing well for themselves abroad. I wonder if we'll start seeing stuff like this with the Japanese metalcore bands that have been building fanbases abroad (and they appeal to people who don't necessarily care about Jrock/vkei).

we can still stick with vk just like before and be more open to the general japanese rock scene which is more lively and has a wider fanbase like ruling it all online not only on here but also on other social

I'd be more active if there was more discussion on bands outside of vkei. A lot of the time I'll search for specific bands and I see that they have fans here but there are never topics made about them.  I came out of lurking because of a non vkei band having a thread made about two of the members.

He’s invited other Japanese bands onto Warped Tour after that, but *never* another VK band.

Yo thanks. I had no idea about this. A lot of non vkei Japanese bands I listen to have done Warped, some more than once. They most certainly have a better approach to touring overseas. A lot of my favorites have pretty much made Europe their second home.

I translate for my fandom and no one reads nor cares and tbh it's too much time and effort I've invested over three years with 0 results for the band.

That sucks as translating stuff can be time consuming depending on what it is. I wonder why fans for some bands wouldn't care?

As for getting non vkei metal fans into the bands I see where you are coming from.  I was a "normal" metal fan stumbled onto some vkei acts by coincidence (read an article on Miyavi in a graffiti magazine I used to read). It wasn't introduced to me by another fan or a weird Japan sort of way. I'm pretty open minded though. I will say that now I listen to way more non vkei Japanese bands. If you think vkei fandoms are quiet, move on to Jrock outside of vkei....cue crickets 😣

  6. The lack of translations is insane.  I can read/understand Japanese but even I sometimes just don't feel like dealing with having to look up a word(s) I might not know.  In the past translations for stuff was easier found but now, either you better know enough Japanese yourself or know someone who can translate for you even if it's a rough translation. Heaven help you if you are fan of bands that don't have a fandom with some translators.

  7. There were rappers outside of the "norm" in the 90s and 00s (Andre 3000 being an example who became extremely mainstream). Also this emo rapper thing is pretty much the new norm and standard. It's all still really manufactured when you think about how these streaming sites and social media sites work. I noticed how manufactured it had become when Adele would show up on lesser known R&B singers streaming stations but the lesser knowns would NEVER get streams if you were listening to an Adele station. But that is a totally different conversation.  Unless vkei bands start mumble rapping I don't see it. (That would be hilarious tho).

The real people who killed the alternative music world...

well... it are the DJ's who create music for everyone...  yes those people.. https://www.festicket.com/magazine/discover/top-10-biggest-djs-world/

I don't think anyone can honestly blame DJs. DJs are just doing their jobs. At the end of the day it is music fans who hold the most power. I can't remember which TV pop talent show it was but I remembering reading about fans in like the UK being over those types shows and they all mass streamed/bought Rage Against the Machine music pushing it to number one in protest. When fans start throwing money around and making noise stuff happens.

Man idk if I'm just dumb af but I've listened to TIW like 5 times and I still dont know any of the words I'd be able to sing along to it lmao

I tend to pick up on lyrics fast when they are in my native language, Japanese it takes me longer and an insane amount of plays. Diru song I learned the fastest was Toguro but that song has a play count in the thousands. I listen to too much other stuff to do that for every song.

  10. I was not expecting us to get the final. I am not going to be able to think straight at work today.

Oh and there were tote bags at our show. In fact everything was there. No change in prices. I'm trash so I bought the hoodie anyway and a t shirt. I regret nothing. That's my new favorite hoodie.
