WOW Sadew is back! He was definitely the best vocalist the band ever had (he wasn't the best clean singer though). Is the gothic lolita guitarrist (Ryo? Ryu?) still in the band? His singing was awesome, it would be cool to hear him singing again. Haven't really heard anything by the band since that single with Kiki though (even though I heard the music took a nosedive in quality with the male vocalist that followed her).

Took you long enough uh? They are pretty much the perfect band for you since you're so much into dark and heavy.

"OMG they are totally disbanding this time" Seriously though 100% I want they to go as soft as possible. No screaming, no skank beats, no downtuned riffage, no exaggerated kyopera. Just pretty, wholesome music like "Higeki wa..." or "Namamekashiki...". The heavy stuff wore out its welcome.

Couldn't care less since I hated TIW, but I hope they don't pull off a X Japan again and play the same setlists on the two days like they did for the Arche gigs (they just changed the order for the second day). One of my favorite things about the DSS gig was how they "split" the songs across the two days, so it really gave the concerts an "event" feel. Except for the odd song exclusive to each day (and there was very little IIRC, like 2 or 3 for each day), if you watched one day of the Arche gig you don't really need to watch the other. I'm almost sure they'll do the X again though, the album is quite short and there isn't much more they've done between Arche and TIW to fill up the spaces though. For DSS they had all the 8 Unraveling songs, plus Kiri to Mayu as a b-side and Sustain the Untruth to add to the setlist. Unless they play the D'erlanger cover (which I doubt they'll ever do) they only have Ash and the stupid remakes from TIW as "recent material" to add to the setlist now. I think they'd release one live-friendly single before wrapping it up I guess?

Who was the main composer for DID? As someone who's familiar with Issei's bands after it, I can REALLY hear the influence from DID on Dimlim (back when he still was in the band) and Nazare (which overabuses synths in a very similar way than DID)

Isn't it too early? I don't recall the name of the tours anymore, but there were at least two of them done in support for Arche. Even though they packed up touring for that album really quickly compared to Uroboros and DSS (which had its Budokan gig ~4.5 years after the album release), it took them around 1 year and two months at least. In hindsight I have the suspicion it was actually so quick because they already had plans for the whole "one tour for each album" cashgrab shit they did for the aniversary so they just finished the whole Arche thing to be able to focus on that?

Interesting that Issei isn't the only one who composes for the band. Does anyone know if the other members had any writing credits back when he still was in DIMLIM (save for Sho being the lyricist, of course)? I vaguely remember some track (Massacre?) being credited to Tsubasa

  9. He sang on Spinalcord before! I also think the drums are programmed, there is no credit for drummer on the album. Haven't heard all the songs yet but holy crap I'm impressed by Sono's vocal performance. Didn't know he could sing that kind of song.
  10. kuyashii

Really? I personally hate his high screams, but his falsetto is neat when it is used as subtle backing vocals (like the "who am I" part). He can't sing with a clean head/mixed voice though.

The song isn't that bad. Was kinda enjoying it until the vocals kicked in lol (the lower growls are pretty decent though!). It's a tad overlong and I feel like the build up to the heavy parts were better than them alone. Kinda getting a stronger Nega than TBS vibe from it too. I'm not really sold on them yet, but it's better than the first song. What was it with the translated subtitles though?

The series of tweets in question don't exist anymore (I suppose the girl protected her twitter or something) but the explanation is there. It would be cool if someone had them screencapped, Issei deserves all the infamy he gets :) https://www.monochrome-heaven.com/topic/49747-dimlim/?tab=comments#comment-586456 That and how he flat out refuses to make his music more available

About the fans that upload his bands' music online?
  14. kuyashii

A question from a complete noob on the subject, what is the deal with that label?

That was a great interview! They seem pretty decent dudes actually, you wouldn't get Issei's bad rep just from that interview (granted, a lot of artists have to "act" for interviews to create a nice image). I'd tought he is that dead-serious guy who doesn't have a sense of humour at all, but there he is cracking jokes and messing with the bandmates (which makes it really really odd that he had that shitstorm over something as inocuous as that meme). Pretty weird that Mio said he doesn't listen to metal that much. I wonder how the hell there are so many vocalists who absolutely nail harsh vocals but go "i'm not really into that lol". I wonder to whom the diss tracks might be directed though (if it was Issei who wrote the lyrics I'd be pretty sure though lol). Love this bit: What about your individual goals for 2019? Uta: (to Yoh) Increase the number of guitar strings? 9 strings! (laugh)

Was there any info on who produced/mixed the album? There it is another reason to make their music more available to anyone willing to pay for it: with more money they could hire a better engineer to make their albums sound better (which usually costs more). I kinda have the feel that Issei himself mixes the music. While the music sounds less mechanic than Various-era Dimlim, with less overtly digital-sounding guitars and slightly less triggered drums (or maybe he got better samples to trigger?), the ultra-low tuning of the guitars and bass make the mix sound really messy. Toning down the synths and strings and stuff could help to make their mix sound clearer. Hell, he can even look at tutorials on YT, you can find a lot of videos about mixing and stuff for most DAWs. The album is somewhat decent! Of course it's no Dimlim, Issei is still an asshole and I'd never give him my money, but it's a decent beginning for someone with such a reputation like him.
  17. I love Fuki but wtf was 2:13 and 4:57? Dunno why would they'd leave a note which is so clearly out of tune on a finished product like that. Doubly strange considering how technical of a singer she usually is.

Thanks for somehow being able to understand me despite all the writing mistakes, I was really tired when I wrote that and should have proof-read it before posting.

You know, the album is nowhere the trainwreck I was expecting! Those are just my impressions from a first listen. Let me start with the biggest problem: Mio's singing. He is trying WAY TOO HARD to sing in a range he doesn't have. He is indeed a very good screamer (he's way better than Sho when he started out, he doesn't overabuse inhales and is overall more versatile) but for now his clean voice is making me have a harder time enjoying the music. Maybe he can go under an impressive improvement like Sho did, but who knows? While there is recently a whole wave of VK bands that put A WHOLE LOT of emphasis on musicianship sometimes to the expense of songwriting, I feel like the musicianship is not only capable but also used in a way it doesn't try to compensate for bad songwriting (different to something like Jiluka's lastest album which is nearly unlistenable). Despite the over-triggered drum sound that doesn't make him much favor, Issei is indeed a good drummer and way more capable than the repetitive machine gun double bass blasting I've heard in a lot of his stuff would indicate. The bass-heavy production renders the music a bit messy, and it doesn't help that their sound is very layered (with lots of guitar leads, vocal harmonies, orchestral and electronic instrumentation), so the mix is kinda muddy (I had wishes of DeG going for 8-strings before but this album reminded me that with their awful production values of late, the music would sound like a total mess). The songwriting is all over the place (there are proggy pieces, the all-out aggressive stuff in line with the promotional singles, synth-heavy "anthemic" live-oriented stuff, ballads here and there) pretty much like early Dimlim, but I consider it to be a slight improvement over something like Various (sorry, but I really dislike it). One of the biggest complains is the abundance of synth sounds that a lot of times subtract more than add to the song (not to mention how they clutter the mix even further). Couldn't care less about the anime ED ballads though and the unabashedly "live-oriented" songs with all the gang vocals and call-and-response bits don't do much for me either. My favorite tracks were "Judas" (which sadly suffers from some of the worst vocals of the album), "unknown" and "Blink".
  20. Haven't checked the Reason MV yet but from the previews (for some reason I couldn't watch that video earlier, maybe it wasn't available for my region yet?), holy shit, when did Sono start singing like that?
  21. kuyashii

Haven't heard anything by them since Orb, but I still want to check out their stuff. Wasn't a fan of the album with Gloria on the title (which was the last full lenght I heard by them). Justice was a banger though. Looking forward to hearing their upcoming album. Kinda strange how they turned into straight-symphonic power metal in recent years (they were even accepted on Metal Archives!). Was this a change that happened back when the band still had all the "classic" formation or happened after they left and there was a change in composers?
  22. kuyashii

I know it's short for "negative", but Nega is really awkward to mention to someone if you speak portuguese. It's a corruption of "negra" which is feminine for "black" so it has some unintentionally racist undertones (it can be used as an endearing term though, there's even a famous song named after it).
  23. kuyashii

I know that one is a reference to Sex Pistols (you know, the punk band). They wanted something edgier so they changed the pistols for machineguns.
  24. Wow, it's been such a long time since I last heard of them! The bass playing is absolutely crazy. Samurai Death Metal ftw.
