No, music was never better or worse. There's a perception of previous generations music being better for two reason. The first is that older generations grew up with it and won't like the newer music. Nostalgia can be very powerful like that. However, there's also the issue of newer generations only liking older music. I think a lot of that is because time tends to forget bands that aren't good, that didn't appeal to the listeners of the time. Music being produced today can seem worse, because you're surrounded by all of it. Good, bad, forgettable. While even if you look at the '70s or '80s, there will be artists you don't care about or dislike, time has already weeding the selection out greatly. Those who only like certain genres that were popular during a time period tend to just be using that as an excuse, imo. Whatever genre they like, it is still being produced today. Perhaps not in the same quantity as in the past, but are still bands playing music in that style. Most seem to choose to just focus on the past stubbornly out of nostalgia. That is not to say every person who prefers a certain time period's music is doing so out of nostalgia, and they could be well versed in many of the bands from that time, both good and bad. There will always be exceptions, especially with personal opinions.

I appreciate good lyrics, unfortunately almost no band has good lyrics. However, music for me is just about about the music. The lyrics can present an entirely different worldview, one that I even find abhorrent, but the music is still good. So I like the band. If I were to ignore every band with shitty lyrics I could probably count the number of bands I listened to on two hands.

Neither, really. I suppose soul and accessibility more than technicality, but I don't think either are correct. I care most about the music sounding good, having interesting compositions, etc. It could be the most basic instrumentation, but if it's applied well it can be great. I actually feel like knowing how to play the instruments is pretty much the least important aspect of making good music. Likewise, I can appreciate a deep or emotional release, but I enjoy plenty of music that isn't. Music can be created without any attachment to it by the artist or any emotional connection, and still sound great.

A band I've been really into lately is Maintenance13. Though, I've only been listening to them on AudioLeaf. They just released their 1st mini album, but it seems to only be sold at lives it seems. Their tracks up on AudioLeaf are really solid though. http://www.audioleaf.com/maintenance13/

Most of my interests don't provide any decent job opportunities, and I'm bad at pretty much everything. I'll probably just go to some sort of trade school and pick the easiest/safest route.

I really, really dig her first album. Legs To Make Us Longer is also pretty solid, but after that I kind of find a lot of her stuff to be a bit boring. Her playing is still solid, but musically it doesn't interest me as much. Everybody Loves You is one of my favorite albums though.

Nevermind, next post got it better.

I was trying to decide if I should bother going to see them in December. This show has convinced me not to waste the money.

I feel like with a couple of the songs on this album, the band tried to be more experimental than they are skilled to be. The songs don't connect well and instead sound awkward. The rest of the songs were pretty much just boring alt metal. There are a few exceptions, songs like Shitataru or DIABOLOS are fairly enjoyable, imo. But for the most part this just sounds like UROBOROS 2, except without the more interesting compositions. Oh, one thing they did do right on this album is the bass is very nice.
-
AMON has an interesting progression towards the beginning and the extra bass is always appreciated. But the song is kind of typical and forgettable. I'd listen to it if it came on, but I can't see myself seeking it out.
-
Hm. Kyoukotsu almost sounds noisy, but I think that's more the low quality stream than the song. Shitataru and Diabolos seem the most promising. Decayed Crow and Dreambox seem the least.

I dislike them mostly because nothing important can happen, since at the end of it everything will be back to how it was before. They're just a waste of time. I'd rather an anime deviate entirely from the manga and make its own story, than follow for a while and then do a few seasons of filler and then return to the manga.
