I live for slashers i.e. Scream, but my favorite Japanese horror is the original One Missed Call; the effect more palpable because immediately after in the middle of the night the phone rang and the caller ID was blank. It goes without saying that I didn't pick it up.

In HS I had one friend who loved X Japan, one was a metal head and loved stuff like BFMV and kinda liked the GazettE and the other who was more grunge liked the pillows. Everyone else thought it was Chinese rather than Japanese. Now, nearly 30, those friends are long gone, and the only person I talk to on a regular basis doesn't care about that sort of thing as that's not what we bond over. I've always been a loner and it's very much true that as the older you get it's harder to form new friendships, but over time you get used to not having friends and those you do you tend to only initiate when you have something to tell them, otherwise you just let them contact you first which means that you could go anywhere from a week to a month or more without speaking.

I'm nearly 30 and went from not caring about anything when I was your age to getting right as far deep into SJW land as possible, voted for Obama and founded the North American chapter of a Japanese antifa, but as I've gotten older and seen what feminism and SJWs and censorship etc can do, I'm somewhere in the middle now.

I know how you feel, my Fandom for them plummeted and I adopted minimalism this year and threw away and sold so many things except for SUGIZO, Kiyoharu and some others.

To be fair, this is about Japan, not internet trolls that make up majority of all youtube comments.

I'm an avid watcher of Yuta and Nobita on YouTube and occasionally watch Asian Boss, and the videos about feminism or lack there of in Japan is fascinating. America and Europe has always had deeply rooted feminism and Japan seems to be the exact opposite, the interviews with the average Japanese women would make feminists head explode; the women surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly felt that women already had more rights and advantages than men and had it easier than men which is far and away from the institutionalized patriarchy and what has been called the anti-cis-white-male movement by many, not just incels. This could technically open up to a broader conversation about conservatism being the norm in Japan, but that's another topic, best not to muddy the waters.

They sure as hell aren't for gays adopting.

Homophobia makes up the Japanese male process for lack of a better word. Guys being all over each other or kissing each other when they're drunk is just a way to fuck with each other, but it's not something they take seriously.

It is very much. The LGBT community in Japan is miniscule compared to pretty much anywhere else, they have a small pride parade, but generally gay is humor of Japan. Hell, Hard Gay has made a career on that sensibility of Japanese humor.
