  1. EDIT: Shit, I don't even remember making this post. This is such a dumb and embarrassing post. Could this post be removed or at least locked?

To anyone who stumbles across this, please ignore it. I don't want to be reminded of this embarrassing post.

(My apologies if this is in the wrong section or if this it's not appropriate to post it here on this forum. Feel free to move it if the former or remove it if the latter)

From YOHIO's Twitter for anyone who is interested:

I don't mind YOHIO voice acting (it's actually pretty interesting), but my question is why Sweden felt a need to dub the movie rather than subbing it. Is it because it's animated? I don't know...

Before you accuse me of only wanting to watch the movie because of YOHIO, I have heard good things about the movie from reading reviews, so I would've probably have watched it anyway even if YOHIO wasn't in it.

Hopefully YOHIO will do a nice job dubbing the movie (and the translation to Swedish is good) and not make it bad...

I gave "Together We Stand Alone" a quick spin. It's a very Western release. I can see the appeal, just not my thing. Wouldn't be an album I would talk about in a VK forum. Has a lot of 00's teeny-bopper feel to it.

I can't point to a music niche that this album does well. Justin Bieber can write love songs that are more dignified than "You're the One". A7X's "The Stage" is a good example of catchy rock music that goes hard, not this album.

It's not a bad album. There's just better picks out there. I didn't actually listen to the album front-to-back. I just skimmed through parts to get a general gist. It was hard for me to stomach a full listen.

His work on DISREIGN is far better; but DISREIGN, in comparison to the standard VK fare like DADAROMA and RAZOR, leaves a lot to be desired in terms of originality. Being Gazette-lite is common for VK Indie bands, but bands like those don't get respect in the international VK community.

I know, I know. I just wanted to know.

And alright. I understand what you mean.

    Thanks for sharing!

visual kei is something from Japan.

Of course you can play visual kei if you are not from Japan.

But then I prefer simply Japanese visual kei.

But there are enough bands of the west which can be also named as visual kei. actually all kind of not normal dressed rocking emo screemo bands.  It's still also a bit of visual kei.

    Okay...

And alright? Never really thought about it that way... And I probably won't because I'll probably not remember, but whatever.

It's not an inherent dislike of Western visual-kei in my case, but it's more that just about every Western visual-kei band has tried to emulate styles and hallmarks that I find to be the worst part of the scene, mixed with occidental influences that I also dislike.

I say most because there have been a handful of examples that really weren't too bad.

While I do not have any official numbers, and this may just be confirmation bias, but it does seem like most Western vkei bands come from Sweden (especially in response to Yohio getting attention at whatever that European American Idol thing everyone on Twitter cares about, as well as in Japan from people like Dada and Kenzi. He more or less made the dream real).

There's a fair number from Brazil and Chile as well, but outside of their own attempts at promoting themselves on last.fm, here, or on Facebook, they never really got much attention.

Ah, okay. I can kinda see why people may dislike it now. I never really got the impression Sweden had that many VK bands/artists... I thought for sure the US had more... But maybe there are more of them in Sweden than I know of...

Even though i do find that one DISREIGN sign boss, i vote we blacklist Western v-kei bands (or as i like to call em: Swed-kei) from discussion here lmao

Or black listing YOHIO in general would suffice.

What do you have against Western VK? And why do you call it "Swed-kei"? Is there a Swedish VK scene I'm not aware about?

If there's no thread here, that implies no one cared enough to listen to it. I don't want to speak for everyone on this forum, but YOHIO isn't popular here for many reasons and opening discussion won't make him more popular. Some just hate because he's living the dream. Others hate because he sounds like a transplant of poorly-done visual kei (note NOT a poorly-done visual kei transplant; if he actually sounded decent he might have fans). For me, it always seemed as if YOHIO wasn't popular more so because he took the rose-tinted glasses off the scene so we can see what caked-on foundation and desperation looks like and less because he sucks musically. The man can shred a guitar, select western audiences are becoming slightly more receptive to less traditional metal aesthetics, and I've heard worse visual kei bands stanned for less. Seremedy was hot garbage and I'm glad that's gone, and whatever side project that spawned off of the four leftover members is equally as irrelevant, but DISREIGN is proof of western scenes willing to accept visual kei for me; it's a budget The GazettE clone but no one minds because they're palatable enough to get by.

consider this my mini review of his entire career.

I know that. I mentioned that there were probably many good reasons for there being no thread here about it that I wasn't aware of, but I just got curious and wanted to ask. And I know many don't like him, and I can understand why.

And what you wrote was actually quite interesting to read. Thanks for sharing! :)

you miiiiiight want to give last.fm a shot in your pursuit of finding other yohimbe fans.

Er, I was not looking for fans, I was just wondering what other people thought about it since there was no thread about it here. I won't judge anyone for disliking it.

both albums were shite imo. disreign is the only good thing he has done so far.

Although I don't think the albums were too bad (though I can see why people may not like it as crazy as that sounds), I can agree that DISREIGN is the best he has done. It sounds much better to me.

  9. (I apologize in advance if this topic is in the wrong section)

For those who are actually interested and have given it a listen, what were your opinions on the album? I honestly don't think it was too bad (though that may just be me being biased and horrible at judging music) and I thought it was better than BREAK the BORDER (which you didn't seem to like that much judging from it's thread), but I'm also curious as to what others thought about it. I'm not asking this just because I like it or to try and blindly defend the album or YOHIO, I'm just wondering.

I know I'm very late in asking this (it was released like, in 2014 or something) and that I'm probably getting annoying with my YOHIO (and DISREIGN) posts, but I never found a thread about YOHIO's third album on here (which is probably for many good reasons I'm not aware of) and I'm just curious as to what your opinions are.

  10. WITHIN THE VOID is now released digitally for anyone who's interested.

Just listened to all 3 songs, and I really like them all. ABYSS OF VEILED TRUTH is a little weird to me, but it's still fairly good. Out of the two that I didn't hear until now (they released the WITHIN THE VOID PV a bit earlier which I find a bit odd), I liked SHINSEKAI the best, but WITHIN THE VOID is my overall favourite of all the three songs.

This is probably their best release so far in my opinion and a big improvement over their other two releases (I still like them, though). I'm really glad that DISRIEGN is getting better and I hope they will keep getting better from here, even if it's just gradual. And as a fan of their music, I'm also quite glad they are getting positive reception as well! It's really nice to see! :) Hopefully they will continue recieving it with their future releases! (Geez this last sentence looks so cheesy, but I don't really know how to word it better :/)

Really looking forward to their next release now! :D

Why are you guys like that, as if they're put on the stake unjustly by default, when he hasn't released anything even remotely decent before DISREIGN? This fucking spot was uploaded like five minutes ago and I've seen nothing but praise. This and the last DISREIGN single are obviously on a whole another level of craftsmanship compared to anything that the weeaboos have ever put out. Yohio's Japanese is awkward, but he's a savage vk vocalist at this point and that's that. The compositions are almost, dare I say, ambitious on visual kei standards with their piano's and all nonsense and the chorus crushes most of the Japanese bands that do this style.

I'm undisputably the most vocal person in my hatred of western visual kei, but I'm not taking no L's for this one. This whole scene was complete garbage right up until Karehasu, and now from the looks of things this band is just going to keep getting better, so good for them.

Sorry for asking, but in what way is Yohio's japanese awkward and could you provide some examples of it? I'm not asking this to defend his japanese (and I shouldn't since I barely know any  japanese in the first place) or to be rude, I'm asking out of genuine curiosity.

  12. Although I liked them even before this, WITHIN THE VOID is better than their previous I'll have to admit. I am enjoying it quite a bit!  The PV is also quite good. I really hope they will just continue getting better from here and not suddenly "jump the shark"/get worse. I am quite excited to hear the other 2 songs now! :D

https://twitter.com/visunite well you know things are on the up and up when you're tweeting on a once a month basis.

flop app, yohio taking l's like a Drake ghostwriter

Wow, I didn't know it was that bad... To be fair, I haven't really been following the app's account, but still... Only tweeting once a month? Good lord...

I feel the app is going to flop too... It's not going to make it overseas at all... And it is indeed his loss (if that's what you were saying by "taking l's") if it flops. Yeah, I may be a fan of Yohio, but that doesn't mean I can't say negative things to/about him and/or his choices, disagree with him or agree with posts/comments like this (well, unless I was one of those crazy fangirls who sees nothing wrong with their idols, but  if I were one, then this wouldn't have been a pleasant post to comment on).

Ok, I've had some time to think about this.

This is app isn't going to take off.

Obviously the app is being made by a Westerner who probably has no connections with anyone in Japan so he decided to get in contact with Yohio - his closest option.

That being said, promotion for the app in Japan and overseas is going to be slim if not none.

Why hat Market an app when there is no product behind it. No one knows what the fuck visual kei is. And even if it gains some minimal following in Japan, im pretty sure it won't be a big hit. I don't think the Japanese are as crazy about apps like Americans and Europeans are.

I don't think it will be a success either... This just doesn't feel right, IMO

seeing ''the visual kei'' twice in that description in the first post makes me think of old people referring to pokemon as ''the pokeymans'' or some shit like that

also there is literally NO way this app isn't gonna flop/end up turning into VK tinder/grindr or some shit like that

True. I don't think this app is going to come that far...

I didn't read every post in this topic, so if someone already mentioned this I'm sorry for just repeating this... anyway I'm pretty sure his ex bandmate, Seike, has something to do with something called VisualUnite, but I'm not sure if they'd be the same thing? I scanned a bit through the visualunite instagram page and didn't see anything about an app... But I'd think if this has anything to do with visualunite and isn't something completely different that YOHIO would have something to do with it since he's someone Seike knows fairly well and seems to be big in the western visual scene.

If anyone knows more about VisualUnite, or if anything I said was incorrect please feel free to correct me...

Edit: I feel the same way though, even as a fan I just think 'why' I really don't think he should be representing this...

I don't think VisUnite has any relation to VisualUnite. Seike hasn't mentioned anything about this app so I don't think he has anything to do with it.

Well most non-Japanese vk fans don't give 2 shits abt YOHIO
And all Japanese gya I know don't give a shit either

This seems like it's gonna spiral outta control real quick if it's dealing with indiefag Japanese VK bands
Like let's be real all their mitsus that work in the ~adult entertainment industry~ will have all the money and get their bands all the points, therefore they have more say/control in how much/what the band is able to do, right?
How is this any different than in real life other than exposing who has the most time and money for them? LOL

I've noticed that. :/ But I knew this was the case from the start (I did my research back when I first discovered YOHIO)

Well, you have a point... But I think we should wait and see what will happen.
