The Samurai by Shusaku Endo

Recommended Posts

The other day i went to a library and found this book. Despite it was written back in the '80 it's a new version very tidily released; hard cover, thick sheets, etc; just the way i like 'em.

The story is about a samurai that has to go to Mexico accompanied by a spanish jesuit in order to act as a translator to defeat the conquerors that want to take over japan. In exchange the samurai will let the jesuit promulgate the christian faith in japan. However, missfortune will lead the samurai and his mates to Europe and he ends up being the 1st Japanese to make it to the cradle of the western culture.

The writing style is very neat and it makes you wanna read to the next chapter. When I was in the library I grabbed the book and curiosity made me read it and couldn't put it back to its place so i bought it. it cost me quite some money though.

So, anyone else has read it?
