  1. No, music was never better or worse. There's a perception of previous generations music being better for two reason. The first is that older generations grew up with it and won't like the newer music. Nostalgia can be very powerful like that.

However, there's also the issue of newer generations only liking older music. I think a lot of that is because time tends to forget bands that aren't good, that didn't appeal to the listeners of the time. Music being produced today can seem worse, because you're surrounded by all of it. Good, bad, forgettable. While even if you look at the '70s or '80s, there will be artists you don't care about or dislike, time has already weeding the selection out greatly.

Those who only like certain genres that were popular during a time period tend to just be using that as an excuse, imo. Whatever genre they like, it is still being produced today. Perhaps not in the same quantity as in the past, but are still bands playing music in that style. Most seem to choose to just focus on the past stubbornly out of nostalgia.

That is not to say every person who prefers a certain time period's music is doing so out of nostalgia, and they could be well versed in many of the bands from that time, both good and bad. There will always be exceptions, especially with personal opinions.

  2. I appreciate good lyrics, unfortunately almost no band has good lyrics. However, music for me is just about about the music. The lyrics can present an entirely different worldview, one that I even find abhorrent, but the music is still good. So I like the band.

If I were to ignore every band with shitty lyrics I could probably count the number of bands I listened to on two hands.

  3. Neither, really. I suppose soul and accessibility more than technicality, but I don't think either are correct. I care most about the music sounding good, having interesting compositions, etc. It could be the most basic instrumentation, but if it's applied well it can be great. I actually feel like knowing how to play the instruments is pretty much the least important aspect of making good music.

Likewise, I can appreciate a deep or emotional release, but I enjoy plenty of music that isn't. Music can be created without any attachment to it by the artist or any emotional connection, and still sound great.

  4. I really, really dig her first album. Legs To Make Us Longer is also pretty solid, but after that I kind of find a lot of her stuff to be a bit boring. Her playing is still solid, but musically it doesn't interest me as much. Everybody Loves You is one of my favorite albums though.

  5. It's been a while since I posted my last one, have heard a ton of great albums since then. Limited to just my top 20 though, to avoid spamming a stupid long list.

  6. I feel like with a couple of the songs on this album, the band tried to be more experimental than they are skilled to be. The songs don't connect well and instead sound awkward.

The rest of the songs were pretty much just boring alt metal. There are a few exceptions, songs like Shitataru or DIABOLOS are fairly enjoyable, imo. But for the most part this just sounds like UROBOROS 2, except without the more interesting compositions.

Oh, one thing they did do right on this album is the bass is very nice.

  7. AMON has an interesting progression towards the beginning and the extra bass is always appreciated.

But the song is kind of typical and forgettable. I'd listen to it if it came on, but I can't see myself seeking it out.

  8. I'm not asking for the shirt dammit i'm asking if anyone knows where i can find the picture/texture/whatever you can call it.... ???

i'm going to make a wallpaper

    No.

  9. Hm. Kyoukotsu almost sounds noisy, but I think that's more the low quality stream than the song.

Shitataru and Diabolos seem the most promising.

Decayed Crow and Dreambox seem the least.

  10. I dislike them mostly because nothing important can happen, since at the end of it everything will be back to how it was before.

They're just a waste of time. I'd rather an anime deviate entirely from the manga and make its own story, than follow for a while and then do a few seasons of filler and then return to the manga.

  11. Hello everyone,

First of all, I want you to check this. As you can see, it's pretty much empty. Why? Cause I removed all my music. I want you all to recommend me 5 artists that I should listen to, no matter what language or genre. I don't care, I want music.

I promise that I'll listen to all of the bands recommended to me. Hell, I'll even download the full discography (as far as I can find it), even if I wont like the artist, so I might be able to find a song that I do like.

Things already recommended to me can be found here.

    Please, everyone?

    01. Comets on Fire

    02. 静寂

    03. Okkyung Lee

    04. Carissa's Wierd

    05. イツロウ

If you have trouble finding any of that, let me know. I have mostly everything released by all of them.

  12. Add Unexpect's new release to my list. It's amazing.

New Unexpect album? This changes everything.

    -

Still blown away by how amazing Okkyung Lee's new album is.

  13. I might believe the album is sludgy in the same way Tsumi to Kisei was. Which wasn't actually sludge at all, but sounded more like if Korn was trying really hard to play sludge metal.

  14. I'm kind of surprised at how much I do like DIFFERENT SENSE. I expected to be disappointed, but it's a pretty strong track. I saw people comparing it to Hageshisa or Gaika, but I don't think they're really comparable. This has more of a changing and interesting song structure, compared to those. [Though I did love Gaika.]

This song still isn't amazing, but it makes me hopeful for their album. Dir en grey pretty much always picks the worst songs for singles, but the direction this single goes makes me think the album will be pretty cool.

罪と規制 is kind of weak. Like Ezra said, it's very sludgy, but I don't think they're playing sludge very well. It's interesting to see maybe in the future them take a step in that direction more, but other than a few parts, especially the end, it's not there yet.

Don't care about RED SOIL live. Dir en grey hasn't been worth shit live for the last couple of years.

  15. I liked the remakes of Hydra and OBSCURE a lot. Definitely feel like they butchered ZAN though.

I didn't hate the remake of undecided, but I feel like it was done better the first time. They're both good songs though.

I think a new version of Tsumi to Batsu will be interesting and I'm hopeful for it. Definitely can see it being better.
