I'm looking for the Ok Computer's of the Japanese music scene, any suggestions?
-
Definitely a great album, right behind Deafheaven's "Sunbather" for best 2013 metal album. Both are great listens!
-
I'm just searching for the most critically acclaimed Japanese music of 2013. What albums were generally considered the best?

I'm a film maker wanting to see more people's short films! If you have any post them. Check out Perception: My first finished. Assistant director and lead actor.

Dum Spiro Spero is a huge change from their perfect work of art, Uroboros, but it still is a satisfaction achiever. Every song is good and unique in their own way, the melodies are top notch, Kaoru has composed well, and goddamn, can Kyo scream like a boss. "The Blossoming Beezlebub" may not a "Vinushka" and "Decayed Crow" could've been cut but in the end this a great album, not for Dir en grey but it shows their worst albums are still memorable. Deathcore is a cool edition to their style but I prefer them to keep the "experimental" side in motion. 8/10 Top Songs: Hageshisa, Juuyoko, Dreambox, Ruten no tou

I've been using Ernie Ball strings, right now I have the super slinky but I had their Fat Top/Small Bottom or somethin on for a while. I used to use D'Addario though.

Lotus- The hell...I'm disappointing. It isn't the verse, not the licks, not the outro. Wait...the chorus. Bullshit. I don't understand, it's just straight up annoying. I mean Hageshisa had an outstanding chorus but not the best verse yet enough for the listen. Here, it's the opposite. Almost like the chorus isn't bearable. Maybe it'll take time... 5/10 Obscure- Alright, the debate. The new Obscure, one that will be argued through Diru fans for a long while. Honestly, at least I can listen to this and go "Man, good song" unlike Lotus. Though they ruined some of the song with the palm mutes. Kaoru doesn't realize he doesn't have a Mesa/Boogie tone that drives guitar chugging throughout a song. His tone is hardly distorted and can't fill out the mix. That's it! It isn't the fact he did the palm mutes, it's his rock tone NOT an American metal tone. It feels empty. Yet, JESUS ALMIGHTY, Kyo's vocals are ridiculous. He's the best. Chorus ain't half bad, but I myself could have done a better job with the instruments. Sorry Kaoru and Die, I'm just being honest. 8/10 Reiketsu Nariseba (live) - HOLY FUCKING BALLS. I was like "well alright" through out the first two songs but now I remembered how ingenious Uroboros was along with the song. The fact that I would consider that album a musical masterpiece when I say the same with the Eagles "Hotel California" is what brings me to Dir en grey. Also along with Kisou...but to the point. What an outstanding and stunning performance. 10/10

Vocals - Takuya (UVERworld) Vocals - Takanori (T.M. Revolution) Guitar - Sunao (Abingdon Boy School) Guitar - Hiroshi (Abingdon Boys School) Bass - Futoshi (Maximum the Hormone) Synth and Programming - Lain (she) Drums - Naoki (DEATHGAZE) I've always felt like Takuya and Takanori need to do some composing together. Then I picked the best rock guitar players from Japan off the top of my head, there we get Sunao and Hiroshi. Literally, who else can we pick for bass? Futoshi from MTH, my god can he play. I felt like getting the best electronic artist around in here to work up to the new UVERworld style and old T.M. Revolution stuff. Lain from She can top this off band off with some crazy electronica. Drums, was quite a tough choice. I picked Naoki from DEATHGAZE because he is probably the fastest and original drummers around. Eiji from FACT probably would also be a good choice. But nevertheless, they are both great. This bands style would be industrial hard rock with some overly great vocals and drumming. What can go wrong? Nothing.
