For bands playing large venues, merch may even go on sale in the morning or many hours before the venue opens. If merch goes on sale before the show, whether or not merch will be sold following the concert is up to each band. (It often is, but popular items might already be sold out.)
Usually bands will tweet or update their HP with merch info before the event (some bands might cut it really close until a day or two before the show though, which can be annoying from a logistical perspective, especially if you're ensei-ing).
P.S. Unless noted in the merch info, assume credit cards aren't accepted and have your cash ready before you get to the venue.
Damn I thought i'd replied to this already - sorry for the late reply and thank you for all the info. I am going to see Matenrou Opera next week and freaking a tad!

@jaymee thank you for your comprehensive guide! With merchandise - do you mean that the merch goes on sale prior to the doors opening? If tickets work out I have two lives that start at 16:30pm - trying to understand timings.
Thanks!

Thank you very much! Are you UK based too?

Yeah I have no idea what I'm doing though ><. I'm not sure what shopping services ship via UK that don't go through the major online retailers?

I am a huge matenrou opera fan who lives in Japan for the moment so let me know if you ever come over while they're touring 😆
Hello! That's awesome! I've never been over for gigs ...I wouldn't know where to start (I've looked at the guides and it seems a complete headache!). I am trying to persuade friends to go over for next year but to little avail yet. We should keep in touch for sure !

hey does anyone have any idea how to purchase from his store? It ships worldwide but doesn't accept non-japanese payments (inc credit cards). The greatest cock-tease!

Hi,
Back from an extremely long hiatus on an old email account - I'm not sure I used it much, more of a lurker!
UK based fan of X-Japan, Matenrou Opera, Kamijo, MUCC, GYZE, Sadie, Merry, DADAROMA, Defspiral, D, Malice Mizer, Esprit d'Air, Rides in Revellion, Buck Tick, Luna Sea, Versailles, etc etc! Very keen for new recs for excellent vocalists and symphonic metal vibes.
Just saw Kamijo last week, and feeling a large empty gig-gap in my life (OK, Dir en grey next month but I haven't seen them since their 2007 first big UK tour..) Anyone seen/seeing Kamijo on this current tour?
Any Matenrou Opera fans out there keen to travel over for gigs? I have no pals that are that interested in them, but they've been my lifeblood for some time and kept me going. Still not quite over last year's cancellation. Also really interested in going to gigs like the wishing well fest, I have not been to Japan since 2005.
Looking forward to chatting to peeps again. Thanks ^^
