Personally, just looking at that makes me sick. I have never known such a fandom / group of people to be so obsessed with something that it controls how they dress, how they speak, and even controls their facebook. Like, there are thousands of profiles out there with just pictures of VK band members, just that...no real photos of themselves. And NO. Your real name is NOT 'Hizaki Ruki Takanori'

Like...i love VK, but not to the point where i'm some mong that says kawaii, over uses '<3' and lives my own life through the happenings of a vk band member...

You are completely right. 90% of the fanbase act as if they are 14 year old kids who's extremely childish for their age. They're like 14 year old kids with the brain of 10 year old kids. It's embarrassing to say at least.

I think it's ridiculous too. But it's not necessarily limited to VK and "J-rock" (okay, maybe the saying "kawaii"/ "sugoi" stuff is), but the controlling how one dresses seems to be like that for many sub-cultures. It's fine if that's how people want to express themselves, I'm not here to judge. It's when people start saying "I'm just being myself/ being unique" etc, that I just roll my eyes. But again, this aspect isn't limited to VK in my opinion. Just look at how all the trendy hipsters look the same. Scarf, colorful sunglasses, plaid shirt, how unique!!!

I think I'm a fairly "normal" guy and the music I listen to doesn't dictate who my friends are, what clothes I wear, or gawd forbid, the way I talk!

That very picture is the reason why I don't say I listen to visual kei as much as I say "I listen to Japanese music" or "I listen to music from all over the globe". It's embarrassing to be associated with people like them. It's OK to be a fan of whatever it is you listen to but there's a difference between enthusiasm and pointless imitation and every person in that pic has gone so far past the latter I have no words to describe how pathetic their existence must be.

I've got friends up here that when I first told them went "LOL ANIME MUSIC". All those people do is reinforce the stereotypes. It took two years to tear that down somewhat.

Also, everyone in that picture discovered visual kei two weeks ago and thinks trading mindless American music for mindless Japanese music is an improvement overall. Approximately half of them will soon get tired of visual kei given a year and transition to mindless Korean music.
