Did another SALU song since I'm kind of bored and recovering from a really stressful work week. This translation is probably at least a little off. The second verse, especially, might be very wrong, but I think the rest at least gives you a fairly good idea of what it's about. ハローダーリン / Hello Darlin' Lyrics: SALU Music: SUI/take-c Heading out of the forest of radio waves, I'm going to see you again tonight I wonder what you're doing now? Even in this eco-friendly age, I found a reason to start scattering gasoline I love this sound You're always so busy, So I can't see you Just like someone I saw outside the window* Like that older guy I saw walking using his smartphone Going around like that he'll bump into someone** Looking down like that, I wonder if he'll be able to find the woman that he's come to look for?*** Rays of light are coming in through the window Who is that person over there waiting for? I don't know how far apart we are, But if only I could fly, I want to fly to you**** Listen, Those guys say “That girl is just using you”, but, They say you're an evil woman, but Hello darlin', I miss you Hello darlin', I need you Hello darlin', I miss you Hello darlin', I'm going to see you Around this time, I'm held back by the traffic I can't move forward at all, But I want to see you right now Please, give me wings Then I'll fly to you right away The radio news is on, I wonder what I should agree with***** Someone has done something to someone for some reason Your smile cuts right through all those dark topics I can't believe anyone else And if that's the case, I at least want to be able to believe in you I want you to only believe in me I won't pay attention to the things they say I want to dance in the palm of your hand The butterfly that dances in the night sky is calling to me but, I want to go where you are, so Hello darlin', I miss you Hello darlin', I need you Hello darlin', I miss you Hello darlin', I'm going to see you I don't care what you're doing now, I don't care girl It's not for your sake It's because I just need to see you right now Notes: *,**,***,****,***** Really not sure about these lines, so I'd take them with a grain of salt. If you have any corrections, please feel free to let me know. ******The way I'm reading this is like he wants to kind of be in her power – like “wrapped around her finger” or something, but maybe he just means he wants to hold hands while they dance? It's the "de" that's throwing me off. ハローダーリン / HAROO DAARIN Denpa no mori o nukete Kimi ni ai ni iku yo mata konya Kimi wa ima nani shiteru no ka na? SALU is from Kanagawa, and there are a lot of references to things in the area in this song that I probably don't understand the significance of. The video is quite literal though, and it seems to line up for the most part, so hopefully this translation isn't too far off. AFURI* Lyrics: SALU Music: SALU, OHLD Coming out of Tokyo and Nagoya on the Shuto Expressway It's been a while since I've driven this way When I see that billboard and main tower, it always seems to calm me down Today as well, the Odakyu line** is running through Everyone is riding it, making their way home There's nothing up in the sky, But everything is here, yeah Mount Oyama is dyed orange, red and yellow And there's the hill where we happily watch fireworks shoot up over Sagamigawa*** in the summer In the area where the most streets intersect, I throw a peace sign out to the people working hard I wonder if the weather will be right tonight? Look everyone, clouds are gathering over Afuriyama**** again The two of us from back in those days This city remembers Even now, I'm definitely still walking here with you Walking, Walking, And laughing with you It's not there anymore, that old department store We can't change the past, So let's draw out our future I can't see the figure retreating into the distance from that time anymore, But there's new artwork in the underground tunnel When it comes to those guys hanging out in front of the station, There's no helping it, should I approach them? No matter what you do,***** That will never get better, will it? There are lots of different cities, and lots of different countries, but, in the end, This one is the best We're living in this city We're living in this city I'm looking out at Tokyo from this city I'm looking out at the world from this city The scenery that was supposed to stay the same as it was back in those days, It's happening slowly, but I can definitely feel it changing around me The two of us from back in those days This city remembers Even now, I'm definitely still walking here with you Walking, Walking, And laughing with you Notes: *This is a reference to a mountain in Kanagawa called “Afuriyama”, which SALU also references in this song by its other name “Mount Ooyama” **A train line ***A river ****”Afuriyama” means “rainy mountain”, which is why I think he switched to using that name when talking about the clouds *****I don't really know how to read this. I'm assuming these people are kind of shady acquaintences, crazy people, delinquents or other people he'd rather avoid that shouldn't be loitering around the subway station and SALU is saying either A. No matter where you go or how you try to get rid of them, that type of person will always be there, or B. He says something to them as he passes by but doesn't expect it to do any good. Or both of those interpretations might be wrong. I'm not really sure. Need to throw in a mention for SBK - especially since Dragon Ash and Missile Girl Scoot have already been brought up. Shigeo gets goofy sometimes, and their music can be pretty hit or miss, but the sheer variety of styles they do makes it worth it IMO.

Their lyrics aren't the best, but A+ for energy.

So I just filled in the boxes that were on the site and I accidentally ended up with a top 42 instead of 50. No particular order after the first 10 or so. I feel like I'm going to remember a ton of releases I missed later, but this is what I could think of right now off the top of my head and using my old last.fm account. It was actually really hard to get up to 42, and some of these probably wouldn't be on the list if I put a bit more thought into it, but oh well. Also, I cheated and added two compilations. (TMGE and Mr.Children). I started listening to a lot of my favourite bands with compilations, so they're usually pretty high up on the list when I think about releases that have been able to stand the test of time.

I have such a weak spot for V6. I'm not ashamed of liking songs like "Darling" and "Honey Beat" because they're obviously meant to be fun and silly (and they're absurdly catchy), but songs like this and Coming Century's "Rock The House" can get a little hard to justify to myself sometimes...

This was super easy to do from the video and I thought my Japanese really improved for a second, but I think it's just because all the words he uses are extremely simple and common. ^Yes, I'd like to see a broadcast of it. GLAY and LUNA SEA is always a winning combo, IMO.

^This BRIDGET video. God, the haircuts, the singer's weirdly out of place EXILE look, the dramatic close-up on the Miyake Ken of the group's tattoo... I still think the song is super catchy though. Plus there's something about the video that still really sticks out in my mind - maybe it's just how hard they seem to be trying? All those super intense, awkward moves and facial expressions fit the lyrics well, and I actually find it kind of motivational to watch.

^Added a sketchy English translation.

Sad they didn't do Deadman's Rodeo Revolver when they came to Canada. It looks like so much fun live. Then again, they did METEORS, which was like 15 minutes long with the intro, so I guess I can't complain.

Good Charlotte's self-titled album. I still think it's a lot of fun to listen to. I'd been given tapes by groups like Aqua, The Spice Girls, etc. by family that I listened to on my Walkman over and over again, but that GC CD was the first one I remember actually buying from the store.

^This. Plus you never know when members will come out with a cool new project or bands you love will get back together. Two of the only VK bands I actually listen to regularly just randomly announced reunions not that long ago, so yeah...a disbandment or hiatus is not necessarily reason to give up if you still love the band's music.

^I actually started posting my translations online mainly because I couldn't find very many translations of Chiba's lyrics, so it's good to know that there are more people out there translating his stuff. My Japanese is terrible, so it's always helpful to compare how I interpreted the song with someone who actually knows what he/she is talking about. His lyrics can be so frustrating because the lines are fairly simple, so it seems like each song should be easy to understand, but most of them just don't make very much sense when you put them together XD

旗揚げ運動 / Army-Raising Exercises Music and Lyrics: Masakazu Takeda Lift your right hand Lower your left hand Don't lift either hand Every day, we're being forced to dance Lift your right hand And, of course, Lower your right hand, And, of course, Don't let your right hand stay down And, of course, remember to keep shifting between those positions again and again Raise the corners of your mouth up into a wide angle Show off your white teeth That's how you form a smile, isn't it? When it's time to relax, we head to a stylish cafe I let out a sigh of relief, but suddenly, After a glance out the window, a destined person appears* I start to blush, and I feel something special I wonder if this could be love? Don't lift your right hand Don't drop your left hand Don't drop your right hand Lower your left hand Don't lower your left hand Lift your right hand We're ready to throw up our hands in defeat And that's okay It's just about beginner's luck You're happy because you're lucky And it's okay to do a nonchalant victory pose However, reality isn't sweet like that After just one defeat, it's all over Life is a one-match game, and it's now or never Every day, it feels like I'm bound Every day, I'm bound So my body moves jerkily, like I'm doing a robot dance But, if you don't mind me being like this, If I'm okay like this, Even though it's so hard to say... I say “Shall we dance?”** Even though we're being forced to dance, All we can do is continue dancing In this world, we just go from dance to dance, dance to dance You might as well enjoy the ride I don't know any clever steps, But still, I go dance to dance, dance to dance Following the rhythm, I keep dancing*** Bring your nose up**** Try to narrow your mouth Because that's sure to make it form a smile Notes: *, **, ***Really not sure about these lines ****Literally, it's something like “Make your nose find your head”, and what I'm picturing is the way your nose kind of wrinkles up and gets shorter when you laugh. Not sure if that's anywhere close to right, but try wrinkling your nose and trying to make your lips thin - you do end up smiling. 旗揚げ運動 / Hataage undou Migite o agete Hidarite o sagete Ryoute o agenaide Odorasarete iru mainichi sa Migite o agete Yappari Migite wa sagete Yappari Migite o sagenaide Nitensanten wa atarimae Koukaku o agete Shiroi ha o misete Egao no tsukuri-kata wa Konna kanji da kke Chikara o nuite toki ni wa oshare na KAFE de HOtto natte FUtto shite CHIRAtto mado no soto mitsumete Suteki na unmei no hito arawarete POtto natte GUtto kite Hyotto shite koi ka mo nante ne Migite o agenaide Hidarite o sagenaide Migite sagenaide Hidarite sagete Hidarite sagenaide Migite o agete Oteage joutai sa Sore de ii no da BIGINAAZU RAKKU datte RAKKII datte HAPPII da Shiretto GATTSUPOOZU sureba ii Da ga shikashi genjitsu wa amaku nai zo Ikkai kiri de HAI shuuryou Matta nashi no ipponshoubu desu Ganjigarame no mainichi da Ganjigarame no mainichi da Karada wa GIKUSHAKU shite shimau kara ROBOTTO DANSU mitai ni natteru yo Demo, konna boku demo ii nara, Konna boku demo ii nara, Totemo ii tsurai koto nan dakedomo SHARU UII DANSU tte iu hanashi desu. I always thought it was referring to falling as well. Interesting.

I have a folder for each artist, then more subfolders titled "Artist - Album" Sometimes I get fancy and put all of a specific musician's bands or related groups in one folder, but usually it's quite basic.
-
I thought "What do I like?" and the first things to come to mind were "purple" and "silver jewelry". So "violet" and "chain" as in a silver necklace. It's not particularly deep, but it means something, I guess.

^Yeah, I liked Nengu the best out of the bands at NMFT 8. Missed Dalljub Step Club since they went last, though, unfortunately, so I guess I'll never know what could have been there. ^Coincidentally, Suichu Blanco, the 6th band on that Audioleaf list, also came to Canada last year and I kind of like their style, but they played at like midnight to 1 am and I was commuting from the suburbs so it didn't really make sense to go.

Eita and Taichi, the singer and bassist from the band FABLED NUMBER, are brothers. Taichi is apparently the older one.

This is a song from Yellow Studs' acoustic side project Team GARAKUTA that they re-recorded and released on the album ALARM. The lyrics are pretty simple, so hopefully I'm not too far off with the English. ヘイママ / Hey, mama Music and Lyrics: Taichi Nomura My precious piano is covered in dust What am I doing? Recently, I've started to wonder whether my meeting with music was a good thing Hey, mama Hey, mama Won't you praise me again? ^That's cool to hear. (Well, except for the Youtube RED part ^^;) I've really been in love with the whole NEW WORLD album for the past year or so. Got kind of discouraged from translating LEGO songs since I failed miserably at "Spark in the end", but it seems like the rest of their stuff is fairly direct. I want to try to do either "end-end" or "Blue Birds Story" at some point.

The new GMA video is so kawaii it hurts. Lovely song too. Reminds me of a more lively version of "Ichi ni san de jump".
