I'm sure your tags are just being sarcastic, but Canada (although by "Canada", I basically just mean Toronto) actually gets a surprising number of J-rock bands. That being said, I go to AN every year, and this is the first time since umbrella that a band I actually like is playing, so I'm super excited. It was fun when Fukusuke came as ADAPTER, so I have faith that it's going to be even better with the full band.

http://aramajapan.com/news/music/newrelease/v6-prove-theyve-still-got-it-with-new-single-cant-get-enough-hanahirake/72607/ ^Glad to see I'm not the only one that thought they were looking extra suave in Can't Get Enough. I've got such a weakness for the "mature" V6.

The cover of NOA's "Paper Hearts" album is pretty ugly. Aki does super kawaii emo sketches like this for his bands' setlists, but that was the best they could come up with for an official release?

Loungewear kei?

Really happy that he's still using all three singers. Yuma's sexy raspy voice is easily my favourite, but the contrast from switching back and forth really makes each of their strengths shine through.
-
To be fair, what people are shipping is usually such a vague, idealized version of the band member that it might as well be a fictional character.

Definitely "Beams" for me. Azayaka niiiiiiiiii irozuita Kimi no koeeeeeee

Yeah, like other people have said, songs are really tough to translate because the wording can be so vague. I also find it kind of difficult to figure out where lines start and end sometimes. I've facepalmed many, many times after reading other peoples' translations of songs I butchered, but I tried, and botching things horribly is the best way to learn sometimes, so oh well. I'm definitely not an expert, but the best method I've found is to write the song out in romaji first (using Rikaichan for any kanji I don't know) and then to read through it quickly (using Rikaichan where necessary, but without googling grammar, expressions, names etc.) and see how much makes sense. If I feel like I get the gist of about 65~70% or so, I'll usually give it a shot. If I get really stuck, I usually just post the romaji and come back to it later. (Like three years later, in some cases, but still...later) I try to go back through the ones I skipped every now and then to see if I've improved. Like plastic_rainbow mentioned, if you're not feeling confident about something, making a note of it in the post is a good idea. While people are usually reluctant to go through a whole song, they're often happy to help correct a line or two if they come across your translation - especially in a forum like this, where so many people are either studying Japanese themselves or devoted fans that will understand obscure references and slang you might be missing after it is translated into their native tongue.

I don't get the hype either, tbh

Honestly, I don't think Noah sounds any more or less clear than the average VK singer.

Gah, finally going to see L.A. Guns with Phil and Tracii for the first time in April. I'm so excited, but so nervous that I'm going to get to the venue and find out someone has randomly quit...Just trying not to jinx it now, since it seems like they've been doing well so far. Phil has looked better, but his voice is still so damn sexy. Plus they're playing Malaria https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=SZXmPi_r-fE

Took a few listens to get used to it, but the new song grew on me. I liked the single a lot, so I'm expecting good things from the rest of the album. <3

L'Arc~en~Ciel, if that counts. I got into them right around the AWAKE album, so those songs and parts of the live DVD from that era are totally seared into my memory. I used to sing along to the live video of "Trust" in my bedroom using printed out romaji lyrics, because there was only one PC in my house and I had to share it with my dad and sister. Good times. The best part was, almost immediately after I started liking GLAY slightly more than L'Arc, that Jack in the Box collab with Hyde, Teru and Takuro happened, and I was super excited to watch it. I remember feeling super underwhelmed by Hyde's version of Yuuwaku compared to Teru's version of Honey, though. Seemed like a sign.

God, Yuma's English is so fabulous. When you see "Alone", naturally it's gotta mean B'z.

I can't think of very many projects that tried to include overseas fans or that used Western sites like Gofundme or Kickstarter, but I have definitely seen more rock and punk bands turning to Japanese crowdfunding sites for special projects recently. https://camp-fire.jp/category/music/most_funded https://eggs.mu/support_project/ http://www.j-wave.co.jp/jcm/project.php I was actually shocked that a band like Yellow Studs managed to pull one off a few years ago, but they've been doing weekly streams with their fans for years, so I guess they built up enough trust to make it work. I know RHEDORIC tried to do one just for overseas fans not that long ago, and it was a complete failure. Honestly, after looking at what they were offering as perks, I'm not surprised they didn't get any money. Even if I was a diehard fan I wouldn't be willing to pay $50~100 for some buttons and photos or whatever.

夜の鼓動 / The Pulse of the Night* Lyrics: N'Eita Music: N'Taichi I’ll never be in love When I’m alone, I just want to sleep I wanna hold onto the night I’ve started wanting to drink just a little more It was heavy snow last night The moonlight lights up the snow I remember I love you On this white night, the stars and moon are... I believed “We’re the one love” “We’re the one love” I dreamed “We’re the one love” “We’re the one love” I make a wish on a star On the curtain of night, Follow the tears of the stars, And fly up to heaven I was so into you I’m remembering, and I want to forget But now you’ve gotta find your own You say “Is it snowing over there again?” You’ll never love me again Do you understand? You say you understand** Listen to the song in my heart I wonder if it will be tonight? The night of the full moon I believed “We’re the one love” “We’re the one love” I dreamed “We’re the one love” “We’re the one love” I make a wish on a star On the curtain of night, Follow the tears of the stars, And fly up to heaven Notes: *I feel like there is a better way to put this **Not sure about this 夜の鼓動 / Yoru no kodou I NEVER BE IN LOVE. Hitori de nemuritai no I WANNA HOLD ON THE NIGHT. Mou sukoshi nomitai natte IT WAS HEAVY SNOW LAST NIGHT. Yuki terasu tsukiakari wa I REMEMBER I LOVE YOU. My mom is really open-minded. She is very willing to absorb whatever is going on around her. Growing up she liked The Beatles (her favourite was George, for some reason), David Bowie, Al Green and a lot of other big artists from the 60s and 70s, and while she is still really fond of stuff from her youth, she also listens to current radio stations and always checks out the big award shows and stuff, which I think is pretty cool. We bond the most over music when we listen to Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap together. It's always fun when she's like "What, you don't know this one?" when he plays some pop hit from the 60s. My dad was a bit more selective. He really liked classical music, but I remember that he also liked songs like Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" and enjoyed upbeat stuff like Bon Jovi and The Go-Gos.

Cool to see Gen and Chiba Yusuke randomly hanging out in the same studio <3 The line-up for my imaginary TMGE/The Birthday tribute album is seeming more and more plausible...
-
I'm not even finished listening to the classic X albums, tbh, so I don't really care if they ever finish a new one or not. I just come to these threads for the YOSHIKI jokes.

Seriously though, "Anytime Fitness" was at the top of the list of things he wanted to see in the US?
-
It's not that surprising given all the drama, but I'm still disappointed. Regardless of whatever he did or didn't do behind the scenes, I liked Noah's style as a singer a lot, and they had some catchy songs.
