I believe the SPX90 was actually secondary to Shield's twin Midiverb II setup, which produced the majority of the reverse reverb stuff. I remember reading an interview that explained most of the stuff on the albums at least was a Midiverb II patch 45 set to 100% wet signal. I have one and it does sound extremely similar to what he uses. Also fairly confident the SPX90 was heavily used by Slowdive as well, so that's tight. Surprised this thread isn't more active. Going to bump it with my new setup. Put together a sort of "minimal rig" today for smaller/local shows/anything that isn't touring when moving numerous cabs and heads likely isn't worth it. Sunn SL260 60w 2x12 -> Peavey Supreme 160 (slave) -> Fender GE 412 4x12 The Sunn is fairly loud on its own (unsurprisingly), but with the Peavey slaved to it the sound is massive. The Sunn stays at max pretty much all the time because for some reason the tone kinda sucks at anything below 8ish. The full "touring" rig is pretty similar. Instead of just a Peavey slave, the Sunn goes into a Fender Roc Pro 1000 which powers its own 2x15 cab and then cascades into the Peavey powering two 4x12s. It's exceptionally loud and very VERY clean even at max thanks to the ridiculous headroom in the SL260. Pedalboard is fairly simple considering I play in shoegaze bands. If I recall correctly, the signal chain is: Electro-Harmonix Micro Metal Muff -> Behringer DD600 -> Nose True Bypass Looper (essentially serving as a footswitch for an Alesis Midiverb II) -> Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi -> Electro-Harmonix Holier Grail -> Digitech JamMan Solo -> amp Will probably replace the Metal Muff with its larger variant (for more tone controls) and toss a Rat II somewhere in there as well. Might also add in an SPX90 just after the Midiverb II, but only if I can find one really cheap. Finally, the guitar going into this mess is a Fender Vintage Modified Jazzmaster. I have a number of other guitars on a rack in my room, but they don't really get pulled out enough to be worth mentioning. They're all either retired live guitars or more suited for recording. As for dream gear, probably a Roland JC-120, Fender Twin Reverb, Sunn Model T (or 200S) and a number of boutique/vintage fuzz pedals that go for insane prices on ebay. Hopefully the 2 or 3 gear nerds who read this over the next few years will find it somewhat interesting?
  2. added some new stuff including some unusual Dir en grey stuff you don't come across often.
  3. Does $15 each sound reasonable? As for shipping, we're probably looking at around $8 for parcel post or $9 for priority. great! sent you a PM!

Perhaps a manufacturing error? I'd check with another person who owns the first pressing to verify this issue. It may be a problem with just your copy/a few copies.
  8. Each disc is a clone of either 1st/low generation or master cassettes. In the case of the MUCC show, I believe it is the master disc itself because I've never seen anyone with the same recording. Simply put, yes. They're all "original" recordings and aren't available anywhere on the internet.
  9. Minidisc is an audio format, so both are audio only. 1990.02.24 is the better quality one of the two, but both are very, very nice for 22 year old recordings.

I told myself I wasn't going to make a "best of 2011" list this year, and I wont. Instead, here's a list of things I enjoyed this year in no particular order. Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis Very gloomy, lonely, lo-fi guitar driven music. I really can't find a good genre to put this under, but it's beautiful. Cold Body Radiation - Deer Twilight Post-rock textures, shoegaze layers, distant black metal vocals. This album came out of nowhere and blew me away. The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar Another surprise for me. Energetic, bombastic borderline metal sounding indie rock with hints of shoegaze layering. Deafheaven - Roads To Judah Some of the most emotional sounding black metal I've heard in a long, long time. I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids - Summer In My Veins Emo noise. Harsh, powerful, sad. Pianos Become The Teeth - The Lack Long After At first I really didn't like this album, but then it just clicked. Best thing they've ever done, best skramz record of 2011. Childish Gambino - Camp This one got a few negative reviews, but I have to disagree. This album covers several genres and the extremely personal lyrics make it stand out from other hip hop releases of 2011. ANNE - Dream Punx The lack of fresh music makes this one a bit disappointing, but the music is still astounding. Dreampop with extra emphasis on the pop. La Dispute - Wildlife While I think it's a bit long, Wildlife is a huge improvement upon their previous work. Emotionally devastating. The Icarus Line - Wildlife Because I couldn't resist having two albums called Wildlife in a row. 40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room Melancholic doom from the man behind Warning. Sadness. ASAP Rocky - LiveLoveA$AP TRILL Others I didn't feel like writing about, but were great: Touche Amore - Parting The Sea Between Brightness And Me Troubled Coast - Letters B L A C K I E All Spaces With Caps - True Spirit And Not Giving A Fuck Death Grips - Exmilitary Emo Side Project - The End Of Something Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra Wreck And Reference - Black Cassette Bosse-de-Nage - ii Lights - Siberia Sleeping Peonies - Ghosts, And Other Things Dir en grey - DUM SPIRO SPERO the cabs - 回帰する呼吸 Giles Corey - Giles Corey Anaal Nathrakh - Passion Fallujah - The Harvest Wombs

changing pace a bit, Corrupted put out what may be one of my favorite albums of 2011 earlier this year. being somewhat unfamiliar with the band past seeing their name around, I just did some last.fm'ing and, despite being japanese, apparently most of their lyrics are in spanish. pretty unique i guess? doom/sludge stuff with post-rock influence, btw. zWJw7tsInY4

Which Vasalla dvds do you have? I was able to pick up a copy of their last live "bootleg" dvd off yahoo auctions a few years ago and the seller had a bunch of other ones as well. They were rather expensive though, so I only got that one. 1998.08.07 渋谷O-EAST 1999.04.03 目黒鹿鳴館 2000.10.27 西九条BRAND NEW i believe i picked them up last year. there were a bunch of others too, as you said. i saved a lot of the dates/setlists of the dvds i didnt get for future reference. always hoping he'll relist them. there were lots of videos of sessions and generally strange Vasalla sets.

Oh boy, a thread for bragging! My gems, japanese and then non-japanese: - First two Aikaryu demo CD-rs. One of them is signed by every member of the band circa 2003/2004. - NEW SCREAM DATE 2002, Punishment Party vol 3 and vol 4 compilations. - LUNA SEA - Lunatic Tokyo 2xLD (can't even play them, but they look awesome) - Vasalla bootleg DVDs (1998, 1999 and 2000 shows) - Shizuka's live DVD - The Black Mages first live DVD. the fanclub only one from 2003. - The Icarus Line - Mono 12" (test press, limited to 5 copies) - Drahcir Ztiworoh - Eros In Arabia 12" (found this at a thrift store for $2. took it home to find out its worth $100+) - Deafheaven - Demo CS (limited to 85 copies) - Sleeping Peonies - Ghosts And Other Things (ultra limited version in a gold envelope with tons of bonuses) - The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Formlessness CS (tour edition w/ bonus tracks) I have tons and tons more because people are always sending me CDs and I must go to record stores every weekend, but these are some of my favorites. I literally have a wall of CDs and tapes and several boxes of records.

Touche Amore/Pianos Become The Teeth/Seahaven/Beau Navire in SF a couple of days ago. absolutely brilliant.
  16. the people really into that scene use dumb terms like "blackgaze" or "blackwave" (which I think is even sillier than the former) to categorize the music. pretty much any band trying for that style except the big name ones are literally either copying Alcest or copying Amesoeurs and instantly get a huge fanbase of kids who think they're ultra original and talented. any band who dares to try something different instantly get slammed. learned that from experience! I have stories upon stories relating to this, but I don't think this is the place for them. backing up to Agape, I actually really like it. I can understand some of the complaints about it feeling short, but it's definitely not bad. it's more like a doom/sludge album with jazz and black metal influences than anything else, and that's really interesting.

linux with a gnome shell. no idea what distro, but in the end its all the same anyways. I prefer to keep my desktop minimal.
  18. funfact: the new Lantlos record is a legit troll geared towards all the "blackgaze" kiddies who hopped on after .neon. it's funny how the dude hates half his fanbase, but i don't blame him.

all those demos exist, perhaps except CHESS. there's a very early "luna sea" recording of a high school performance from 1987 and CHESS is most certainly not played. in addition to what you've listed, I know of a demo containing some MOTHER tracks as well. it wasn't a public release though, internal use only. there may be one or two more as well out there. i uploaded a bootleg awhile back that has DREAM IS OVER and JUNK on it. SINFUL SONG doesn't ring any bells though. perhaps i just haven't seen that title used yet.
  20. Looking to buy demo tapes, not of any particular band. Contact me if you have anything you'd like to sell! Sellers within the US are preferred to save on shipping, but this isn't a requirement. Trades may be possible as well.

there's no north american dates because there's no promoters/agencies that want to bring them over. the band has a booking agent who in turn works with individual promoters or a singular agency in the area they want to tour in to coordinate any possible events. its the promoter's job to rent the venue, book the show, provide a place for the band to stay, pay the band for their performance and, of course, promote. taintedreality did this for them up until 2008, now they can't find anyone interested.
