The vkei facebook groups are full of white knights who feel they are above piracy from a moral standpoint, and listen to their music through YouTube while completely disregarding the irony that the vast majority of vkei on that platform in fact comes from piracy (and to add on another level of irony, said music most likely stems from this board). I have a lot of thoughts on the subject that I'm having trouble putting together, but most of it boils down to "Westerners don't buy CDs + can't go to a gig in Japan, and the Japanese don't like streaming + have no interest in playing here, so unless one side gives no one is going to be happy." That being said, vkei has a lot of novelty tax associated with it because no one actually buys it, so they're trying to make as much money off of each sale as they can. Pressing 400,000 copies of a U2 album is probably a lot more cost efficient for everyone involved than pressing 100 copies of the next Datura single. I also get that music isn't free, it costs money to produce it, you're being entitled, Ayn Rand was a good writer, etc etc etc but for as much as people come across as entitled, the counter argument is hard to not interpret as rabid gate-keeping. As an aside, here is an article a friend shared on facebook regarding Streaming: https://pitchfork.com/features/oped/how-to-be-a-responsible-music-fan-in-the-age-of-streaming/ Basically, streaming doesn't yield a lot of money to bands either, and the author's proposed resolution is pretty interesting.

Ben is so powerful. She giveth, she taketh, and she removed herself because she was done.

I wrote about that in my live report. tl;dr @ShanethVarosa and I had to stand in line for like 3 hours and it was a struggle

I paid $120 to almost pee on Kamijo at a meet and greet, so I'd say that's worth it for a whole event like this, especially since it sounds like you get something for buying the $300 ticket.

http://xn--cckyax4fsa9gwf.jp/profile.html Is Nao the dude in the white? (2nd from the top)
-
No, I was saying that to mean "This is a totally a random assortment of unrelated people, " and a total stylistic shift from STELLA... for Nao. I always appreciate your news contributions!

uwu edit: actually read the thread after shitposting. Wtf is this lineup
-
Sloppy, but at least he has the budget now to afford an extra in the music video

It's cool that they were approached to write the theme for 50 Shades Darker

This tracklist is stellar. Although, it is a bit odd to hear Hyakkaryouran with Akira's voice instead of TOMO's.

I hope that guy from Sug's new solo project covers Untrust Us

And it's 2,500 yen. That's a lot for a single with really only 1 new song on it. Even if they sell all 100 copies, they'd only make about $2,330.00 ... I'm not really sure what the point is? I'm sure it costs more to edit and produce a music video, let alone pay a graphic designer for album art, pay to have the CDs physically produced, pay to have it recorded and mastered, and then pay all of the members for recording it. Vkei has a lot of ~magic money~ and I'm really unsure of how it logistically works.

iconique and wonderful I haven't listened to everything by them, but I'm familiar with them enough to know that how they sounded when they started ( @Takadanobabaalien's post) is drastically different from how they ended. I prefer the angsty gawf early stuff + melodramatic middle-career material to their later, more trance-y albums, but there are consistently gems throughout their discography. I was hoping she'd at least sample "I'll see YOU after the function." But instead, we got a rehash of just about every new song that was on the last album.

hey hey hey hey that band was supposed to be a self-tribute-tongue-in-cheek-project (read: lazy) and Devil Kitty (2) is where he's gotten srs again (...by recording all of the gokiburi songs he didn't get to release before their bassist (allegedly) fucked them over, and performing setlists that are mostly gokiburi songs anyway). He's been on the self-cover, and self REdisCOVER plan for years. His solo project had a whole rerecorded self-tribute album, and many of his bands just took songs he wrote previously and changed it up a bit with a new title. I made a big master post of his tomfoolery here. Kamijo's been big on remakes throughout his career. Most recently, Versailles rerecorded a lot of their most popular songs (and actually most popular: not "we released this on warner therefore it has to be popular " songs). I actually really enjoyed that album since it corrected a lot of production woes they had in the original versions. He also released a big self-cover in 2014 as well where he remade songs from all of his previous bands. Since the material spanned a wide range of time, and the covers were usually reimagined rather than straightforward updates, it feels less gimmicky. On a similar note, Lareine remade their shit all the time lol. There's at least 3 different versions of "Solitude," two remake collection albums, and even an album where all of the tracks on it are music box versions of regular songs.

Look at this Mob Wives aesthetic

They look like they have fun performing live. No idea why that commercial is spliced so abruptly!!
