Re-recordings are a mixed bag. Some of them are great, some of them are dog shit!
 
I think the only band who has hit it out of the park with re-recordings is and cali≠gari (not counting the TURN minis, those are... a different realm). The complete re-recordings of 10 and Bluefilm are far superior to the originals, as is マグロ 2017. lynch. and girugamesh have also done very well with their re-recordings (although for lynch., their album version re-recordings were not very good, like JUDGEMENT and ADORE).
 
Everyone else (I can think of) has been mixed...
 
MUCC did fantastic with 新痛絶 and 新葬ラ謳; some of the songs were better than the originals, though there were a few others that were sub-par. On the other hand, their other re-recording album, the one that shamelessly appropriated BUCK-TICK's 殺シノ調ベ, was dog shit.
 
My problem with a lot of re-recordings isn't so much the vocals, it's that the guitars are severely lacking and just sound weaker IMO, like on DIAURA's INCOMPLETE, グリーヴァ's re-recording mini (they should have just released the full demo of Bondage, I will never forgive them for not doing that), and a lot of SUICIDE ALI's re-recs. I'm not a recording engineer and I do not play guitar, so I'm not really sure how I can explain this better. Although there are definitely some re-recordings where everyone does a piss poor job all around.
 
Rant time: the GazettE's TRACES VOL. 2 is an exhibit to present in these arguments: talent ≠ intelligence; the GazettE are some of the stupidest fucking people in music; bands should stop self-producing their albums unless they're Converge. Production-wise alone, it could have sounded better, but it didn't, because they wasted production money on special instruments and completely forgot that garbage-in is garbage-out, and because they were monitoring it with fucking EarPods and probably laptop speakers as well.
 
I guess if your band name is all lowercase, you're more likely to make great re-recordings :thonk:

Sex on the beach is a bop Deliheru Boys! Deliheru Girls! is great good job Ao Oto Sex 2020 is a disappointment 原色エレガント is funky fresh さかしま single worst cali gari song ever and I hope to never hear it again Did they change Blue Film at all??

Most likely need someone living in Japan to act as an agent for payment + address. 
Also, if you are like me, you will probably have to go by your last name only lmao they only allow 10 characters for the name.

To me it sounds like the light poppy melodies of SEVENTH HEAVEN fused into the modern streamlined electro-ish production of the last few albums, and I'm sorta HERE FOR IT. This album is looking to be better and better by the day, hope it won't disappoint.

I forgot exactly how bad Vanitas was until I re-listened to it and almost threw up. 
 
I was in the car this morning, on my way to work, and 12012's "Suicide" came on. It was a nice drive. I laughed, mocked the song for being terrible, and reminisced how bad 12012 had gotten by the end. Little did I know I would be re-listening to Vanitas today, an album so atrocious I legitimately forgot it existed.
 
God damn. Please no one take this personally, it's just my subjective opinion on music; but NEGA deserve to be wiped from the history books. Their CD's should be burned, live albums sent to a landfill, and let's just forget this ever happened. 

the original version of 禁色 on Forbidden Pleasure volume I with ao singing is really quite nice. it’s from 1997 so I think it's the first cali≠gari recording with ao singing?

All in all, a very good batch. I was thinking of getting more while I had time, but I decided to stick with what I have for multiple reasons. Might take a pic of my cali collection on the shelf when I'm done ripping everything. I'll also be taking some more pics/scans later on, there's a lot of great artwork here.
 
I copped 回想、睡蓮と向日葵 for ¥2,600. I was expecting something to be missing/broken, but turns out, the worst thing about it is a small tattering on the obi band. I think everything I got here was for a reasonable price, although マグロ was ¥5,000, 残響、睡蓮と向日葵 was ¥2,500 (sealed though), and the 職業病 mini was full price since it was from Ao's shop. Everything else was a good deal at worst.

I'm kinda back into VK/J-Rock and stuff, so I'm probably trying to start hanging out here more like the old days.

I got bored and decided to count mine. I mostly stopped collecting CDs a few years ago and moved on to vinyl, but kinda got back into collecting cali≠gari a few months ago.
 
A grand total of 406 Japanese releases:
* 389 CDs, 15 vinyl (14 BORIS, 1 MUCC), 2 DVDs
* 16 are without cases and are just sitting in a CD wallet 😕
* 7 are comment CDs/DVDs
* No polaroids, but a lot of stickers and photo cards that I am not going to count (lol), I've also got one magazine that I only bought for a CD, and I think I've still got some freebie zines that came with various orders.
 
Individual bands:
* 65 are MERRY, 2 of those are DVDs, 3 are doubles... oh, and there's the demo MD, I keep forgetting I have that
* 33 are cali≠gari, 8 of which are currently in shopping service purgatory
* 13 are the GazettE, 15 are ザアザア (but I stopped at のろいうた in '18) 15 are R-shithead, 16 are Plastic Tree, all very small numbers but I felt like counting these bands too

Ao + Aie commentary highlights

Aie instantly understood how the commentary worked (with them commenting on youtube and us viewers listening to youtube and watching the e+ stream at the same time). comments were like "wow aie got it instantly when shuuji & kenjiro had no idea the whole time." Ao's response was basically "can you believe i'm the oldest" and they were basically saying he was shuuji and kenjiro's nurse/caretaker Aie, after understanding how the commentary works, "ah, so that's why that's stuck over the camera. otherwise they'd see us fully nude. " ao asked aie about the foam "idk what it is" ao asked aie about the saran wrap "well it's not saran wrap... but like... the bigger version... we had other plans for it but ditched it and well mako had some time on his hands so  " ao asking about the mic and aie's just like "oh no the ones on the right and left dont do anything. just for decoration " ao asked if it was ok for him to actually reveal that and "yeah of course i mean if you LOOK with your EYES you can SEE that only the middle mic is hooked up!!"  Aie and Ao talking about COMPLEX' be my baby at one point??? this song just follows me and turtels everywhere i guess Even though it was announced in advance when the commentary would be Shuuji apparently called Ao in the middle of it and it cut off the stream at one point lmao Ao continuing to call shuuji うちの石井 ("my ishii") and お石井 (o-ishii, adding o to the beginning of a name was something they did back in the day for ladies) mako flailing around
ao: he must not have stiff shoulders at all if he did there's nO WAY he'd be able to do that
aie: hmm yeah he must do a lot of stretching
ao: shuuji does a lot of stretching too actually before lives he's just perpetually stretching A propaganda truck started driving around in the background and you just heard the ANGRY YELLING in the background lmao uber eats guy walked in by accident and ao's reaction was simply to ask staff "was he hot?" (I believe the consensus was yes) ao "the red lighting... it really... it eliminates your wrinkles... i recommend it..." after deadman finished ao was like "well i'm full on deadman already is there really more to watch??? really?? lmao" and during cali gari he kept going CAN WE FINISH YET? ao and aie talking about food (mostly boiled eggs) for the first song or two of cali gari lmao  ao "I really dont want to do old songs anymore" aie " ME TOO" like aie deadman doesnt have any new songs what are you supposed to do cali gari's release is next month and they havent even started 2 of the songs  aie and ao proceed to crack up over how this schedule is impossible ao telling more stories and tru facts that he probably shouldnt       i honestly forgot what he had been talking about though so cant elaborate ao "if corona continues i need to get better at talking to myself for streams, huh" ao and aie get stopped by the police for questioning on like a weekly basis apparently. Aie "If i have my guitar they dont stop me but if i dont then ALWAYS" ao "what the heck it doesnt matter if i have my guitar or not!!" ao apparently has a VERY CLEAR vision of what oto sex 2020 will be

the fact is that all of their remakes are better than their original versions and i will give irrefutable proof that you just can not compete with right here:
 
a) more modern recording quality. cutting edge modern editing & recording techinques used by the creme de la creme of western metal and japanese metal alike
b) deeper voice. kyo's screams have never sounded better. he is the japanese mike patton and he DESERVES to show it off because other bands can't compete with that twisted madness
c) old songs are too visual kei. there i said it. you may not like it but its true: now finally these songs are dope enough to actually listen to with your friends who listen to real metal because there are CRAZY riffs and hardcore vocals that don't sound visual kei
d) more poetic lyrics. compare the lyrics for the original tsumi to batsu to the lyrics of tsumi to kisei? yeah.... enough said i think. don't need to elaborate
e) they play them live. honestly - compare the amount of times the band has played the original versions of these songs live after the remakes came out to the amount of times they've played the new versions live. it's obvious even the band KNOWS that these remakes are doper. better. and also more intense & that's why they play them live
 
just my opinion... i dont know why you guys insist on doubting these guys. they gave us sustain the untruth ffs!

All the merch sold out quickly besides the cd. 
Personally, I enjoyed the songs (they played the CD as bgm for the stream before & after) and I grabbed the CD & the tentacle shirt. time to wait two weeks again!
 
Yeah surugaya keeps sending me emails telling me "sorry for the wait. we still haven't shipped :)" 
only one of my orders is in packing mode & will be shipped soon & it's not even the oldest order. And well the one that wasn't surugaya, but was book market or something shipped literally the next freaking day and arrived the day after that 🙄

I'm not really feeling either track. Five listens in on Ochita and I can barely remember it. Definitely do not like what they did to my boi CLEVER SLEAZOID. I wanted a rerecording not a remake.

Maybe the tracks will grow on me with time.
