Well, according to Shinya, all four versions of Ash are different recordings. Although I'm not entirely sure if he's right. It would be "omnibus Ash" -> "VHS Ash" (which I think is the same as omnibus Ash) -> "Myaku Ash" -> "remake Ash".

And GARDEN was re-recorded for the VHS. So it's "MISSA GARDEN" -> "VHS GARDEN".

And true, "Sangeki no Yoru" -> "Kiri to Mayu".

You forgot some more, like Fukai for example. Here's all songs with different versions: https://direngrey.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Songs_With_Different_Versions

There's at least one version of Ash and GARDEN missing on that list. Depending on how you define a remake, of course. :P

  3. Is there a full performance video of this La Sadies song? This is the first time I have seen this clip

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Hmm, I think this was taken from vkontakte. Or at least that's where I saw it the first time.

There's probably a full version somewhere in Ki$aki's storage. :D

  4. Been having a weird time adjusting to IBS since I found out I have it about a month ago. Today's really bad in particular. Anyone know any good foods or ways to manage it better?

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

I have UC and I still haven't really figured out what I shouldn't eat in the eight years I've had it now.

But coffee absolutely kills me and makes me useless for the rest of the day. Even just one sip.

Other than that, no idea. The UC mostly shows itself through cramps in my lower abdomen and the urge to go to the toilet almost all the time. Especially in the hours after waking up. Or when I can't go.

      Oh well. Stay strong!

  5. I corrected all DEG lyrics on the wiki and I'm not sure what to tackle next. Please vote here what you'd like to see, in case you use the wiki: https://www.strawpoll.me/18576492

    - sukekiyo lyrics? The con would be that there are no band scores for any of their albums, so I wouldn't be able to present any correct romaji. And not all of them have official translations, too.

    - La:Sadie's lyrics? They don't have any official translations or romaji. I wouldn't know where to get those from, but adding them wouldn't take a lot of time.

    - Include the sung lyrics for DEG songs? Right now, I only display them the way they're displayed in the band scores. But that's not necessarily the way the lyrics are actually being sung.

    - Expand the wiki to include all official releases? Right now, I'm only concentrating on the songs with individual lyrics and the releases they appear on. That's why I have no articles for their debut singles, for example. This would be a huge task, though.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

The problem is that I wouldn't know where to get them from. I mean, they don't have a lot of songs, so translating them wouldn't take too much time. But my Japanese sucks^^'

  6. fucked up to think, that people on this music forum would rather play with their ''tools', than discuss the new Tool album, coming out next month......

  10. fwiw: The songs Zetsubou no Hako and Think about death are by a different band with the name Gesshoku, not by Kyo's first band. Apparently, this was known since 2005, but some people mixed the bands up in the years that followed and yeah, now you find them with the other songs by Kyo's band. If you have them, you can delete them if you want to.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Apparently, their vocalist was Tomoyuki Fujiyama and the songs were downloaded directly from his website in 2005 or so. Does that match the activity of Frypan's Gesshoku? I remember reading about it on last.fm years ago...

To add to that, how would language be culturally appropriated anyway? It's not like anyone owns language.

  14. Just like NETFLIX did to Death Note, the same happened with Lords of Chaos, they took an idea that they knew that it would "sell",but ignored completely what it really is and made it their own way.I felt uncomfortable watching that.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Haven't watched it yet, but I've been reading up on the scene and am curious how the movie depicts it.

But it made even Varg say positive stuff about Euronymous, that he died fighting, so I don't expect too much. Oh well, let's find out! :D

  15. Does anyone know where I could manage to find legit copies of older diru stuff like I'll and kisou, I hear alot about bootlegs so I dont wanna get fucked over on Amazon or ebay

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

mercari, Yahoo! Auction, closet child, puresound. As for ebay and amazon, a lot of sellers are legit, I think. There are some on ebay that sell from Japan,  I've ordered from them in the past. :)

  16. BMTH 2019: Coldplay "jacked our steez" a few years back. Let's get back at them by copying their music.

Seriously tho, it's a really solid pop album. It's what I expected, but feared of getting. Not one song on the album resonated with me the same way as any of their previous works. Their songwriting definitely hasn't lost it's edge, but...it just feels kinda soulless.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Are some of the tracks even songs? I listened to it only once for now, but some of the tracks just began and ended without me noticing it... their previous album was better, imo.

  17. Did Sumerian let Denis in with another band after he ditched the last three? Label must be desperate at this point, lol.

I actually really liked The Black, but Denis does seem to have an unhealthy attitude.

  18. Still waiting someday some mysterious user on YouTube uploads a handful full VHS recordings of Dir en grey's first concerts, where they played Zan faster than it would be recorded, and Kaoru missed almost every solo.

I don't understand how this hasn't happened yet, considering it did happen with La:Sadie's and also big bands like X, Luna Sea, L'arc, D’erlanger, and many more.

Tbh I got really bored of watching the 1999 Osaka Jou live over and over to have some of the most glorious 90s vk performances ever...

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

I mean I wouldn't be opposed to finally seeing those old lives, but it would take away a lot of the mystery that surrounds their early days. Plus, they might be ashamed of their unprofessional, young selves, don't know.

Yup, I have a recording of it, from October 17, 1998.

You knew I'd reply to this :D So:

The La:Sadie's videos are all from DVDs that Ki$aki sold at verious live shows after the band had disbanded. They're not band-sanctioned releases.

As for the DEG stuff, well, it's obvious that they recorded all their lives from the very beginning, considering we already saw parts of one of their 1997 shows in their Mousou Blablabla VHS. Here's my digest for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNgHcPRhNiI
You guys probably also know about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOdKGLVZB68

I'm not sure where it comes from, but it appears to be leaked footage of what was supposed to be their first live release (the 1998 Budokan performance). As you probably know, Kyo called this live their darkest day or something like that in the VOS documentary.

The Tsumi to Batsu indies version (aka NS1) doesn't sound that different from the finished product. The intro is different and the lyrics, obviously. But the general song structure was there already.

  20. What's the biggest jrock discography you've listened to in its entirety?

  21. Earlier this year I spent hundreds on a demo tape... and now I found someone who got it 15 years ago for only 2000JPY (15EUR)...

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

It's always the same, isn't it? You buy something because you don't think it'll ever turn up cheaper and bamm, one week later it's online for half the price. I had the same experience with the GAUZE LP, band scores, promo tapes...

I also noticed that on Yahoo! Auction, everything used to be cheaper five or more years ago. Then us foreigners found ways to order from there and everything became more expensive. Damn you, gaijins!

  22. After giving The Insulated World a couple more listens, ARCHE still remains by far my favorite DeG album.

  23. Is there something wrong with Yunisan lately? It's the best site to keep track of old Visual Kei bands but now I can't find some bands. I could swear NéiL's discography was there before.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Some band pages don't work, others do. There was a short talk in the MH chat about it recently.

Other than that, I can only recommend vk.gy as an alternative. :]

  24. Anyone here ever got a headache / hurt their ears listening to VK? Not talking 'lol bad music hurrrr' here, I'm talking like 'music causing actual physical discomfort'. For me one band that seems to cause it is 12012 with their earliest material. Something about the production on their older releases just makes me feel uncomfortable, maybe it's that weird tin can-like filter over the vocals.

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

Not (only) about vk, but in general: When I hear an (apparently) specific kind of sound, my eyes start to water. I can't even accurately describe what kind of sound it is, only that it's a deep, bass-heavy kinda sound. It can happen in music, but also on TV or in videos.
