Biased for or against? I personally like Devote My Life and Rubbish Heap a lot. Celebrate Empty Howls can go die in a fire. That song sucks. Agree wholeheartedly about everything you say here. I was also at that London show. That was the last gig I went to before all this madness hit. Good times.

Someone needs to rip the audio from the Ochita Blu-ray. There's also the TWOM Blu-ray that has 10 songs from TIW era.
-
I'm holding off listening until they release this on CD. If it doesn't come out before the next album, I doubt it'll ever be released physically for the masses. At that point, I'll cave. I refuse to pay for mp3s.

Well, it might just be a short song. A lot of people felt Ranunculus should have been longer, too. However, The World of Mercy promotional edit only contained about 1/3 of the full track, so who knows?

Doesn't seem like it's worth the time to make a Spotify account for this. Never used a streaming service before. Not going to start now. The whole situation with DEG, the fucking awful mastering of their last album, the handling of the latest single, and now this, rubs me completely the wrong way.

Hi, Wataru!

Yes. Not willing to share here as I don't want this account to be associated with it.

Other thing to bear in mind is the lack of energy. In live shows, there's a symbiosis between the band (which gives) and the crowd (which gives back). Without the crowd providing energy, a recording can become sterile. So even if it's technically 'perfect', it can be insincere or even boring.

Also, they only have to apply makeup to one eye! Makes getting ready for a show or photoshoot so much easier.

Ryonai from Blam Honey wears an eyepatch. In his case, this is apparently for medical reasons, as he has myasthenia gravis. They have a song about this on their final album Typical Ingeniousness ~suggest~. (This second image may be flipped horizontally)

Yokan is fucking great, though.
-
I'd be totally fine with them throwing the Youtube live show on a DVD given how bad that VOD is.
-
If true, that'd make me very happy. I realise that I'm most likely alone in my opinions, which aren't really par for the course in 2020 where everything is digital and/or streamed.
-
I'm just the opposite. Never been a fan of digital music. I will buy every physical CD they put out, but I absolutely refuse to pay for mp3s. My hope is that this single is just an A-side or double A-side taken from a new album with no exclusive tracks. That way, I won't feel like I've missed out on anything. Wouldn't have minded waiting another year for this single to drop, tbh.
-
Simultaneously really happy that we get a new single and totally bummed that it's digital only. Fucking lame. I guess CD production is impossible right now. *sigh*
-
Oh, snap. I missed it. Really hope someone recorded that!

I'm hoping Kyo's is a two hour INWARD SCREAM. They'll most likely just do DJ sets. I think Deftones have been doing the same.
-
I second this. The framerate makes the VOD unwatchable. Since I missed the stream, I guess I'm SOL unless it gets a DVD release.
-
Definitely intentionally made to sound bad. Some pretentious artsy concept shit, I'm sure. Remember the embryo remix off that single? Sounded like it was recorded from a gramophone using 1930s audio tech.

Yeah, don't get the wrong idea; I do like TIW. I just don't love it. Even though bad mastering killed the album for me, the songs aren't terrible, proved by how well they translated live. In fact, I vastly prefer it live, and I wish they'd recorded it that way. Kyo's vocals on Ranunculus live are fantastic. However, the songwriting itself is occasionally blah on this album. I feel like repetition has set in, with several songs being copy-pastes of material we've heard before. It's been the first DEG era where I've felt somewhat disconnected from the music. I will admit that the endless Japan-only From Depression To... tours with appallingly expensive fanclub-exclusive Blu-Rays did not help my demeanour going into this album. That was a really, really boring time to be a DEG fan. Best Of album was inevitable. Aside from FUKAI, the re-recorded songs from this suck tbh, and the videos are just trash. I don't really care for this release, but it's not intended for me, so it doesn't matter. As for re-recordings, it's funny that they re-recorded Ash *again*, although this rendition is pretty good. Likewise THE DEEPER VILENESS is just disgusting; I love it. Acoustic DOZING GREEN is perfect. The World of Mercy is a great single. A slow-burner, for sure. This should have been on the album to make it over an hour. Even so, I'm glad to see another long non-album single like ain't afraid to die.
-
Seems that this era's finale won't be at Budokan this time. I thought this album's cycle was okay, but ultimately nothing too special. I'll be glad to see the back of it, honestly. Here's to the next one being better.
-
This is what the fans truly desire.

If it's a full-on war, Kyo's going to branch out into more than just 'video and audio compilations'. Perhaps have his own erect penis cast as a dildo to release with the next album. Rammstein did it (NSFW, obviously).

Only thing I can guess is that it's some meme that I don't understand. "Shaka, when the walls fell."
