Last physical CDs I bought were a bunch of Gackt CDs around a year ago like Crescent and Moon (I had digital copies, just not CD). Geeze, talk about cool packaging. Never seen anything quite like that. Oh yeah, and a bunch of Billy Idol Cds. I'm gonna be visiting home again in October in the US and they have a huge music shop called Monster Music in Charleston. Gonna go check that out, its been far too long. Actually, I pre-ordered the new Sum 41 CD. So I guess I've bought that, but its not out yet!

Personally I love Jade. I think its a fantastic song. And I'm super pumped about their new album coming out. I'd love to be able to see them live sometime.
  4. I get in some anime here and there, but I haven't read any manga since I was a kid. Loved it, though. Maybe I'll get back into it eventually. One series I want to re-read is an American manga called Ninja High School from the 90s. I loved that! I've sold or given away most of my old comics, but I held onto NHS.

I'm not new, but I've been pretty inactive the last...6 months? Has it been that long? I'm not really sure what happened, but I'm back I guess I was just pre-occupied with vacation and releasing my new EP. It really takes a lot out of you (releasing music, not vacation, lol). (Download it if you like) I'm probably gonna be more active on here now, and some other forums. I'm pretty bored with social media right now, there's too much complaining and too many gifs of 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction. And while some may argue forums are social media, they are much more relaxing to me for some reason. Arigatou!
  6. As a teenager in the 2000s, I was way into music then. Some of my fav bands came from that time, but then I got really into 80s hair metal. Some 90s music I really love, but like all decades, some I can't stand

SCUMS was not a good introduction to them for me. I haven't been very interested in them since. I know I need to check out earlier stuff, but I haven't yet. SCUMS made them come across to me as a band that's trying too hard to be different...and, well, it's strange.

Thanks everyone for all the answers. And I am very happy to see that not one person chose the "I don't ever pay for music, no matter what" option, cheers!

Fluent in English (I'm American, grew up in USA) B1 level in Norwegian (I moved to Norway a few years ago) Recently begun learning Japanese and Russian. I took Russian in college, but don't remember very much, as college wasn't much of a time for learning Well, at least not academic learning. Let's say "social learning" Eventually I want to learn Mandarin Chinese as well. China and the language has always fascinated me, but Russia and Japan have been in my life in various ways since I was little, like anime and I've just always been interested in Russia and Russian history.

Wow, Nightwish. I remember when I discovered them in high school, something like year 2000 or 2001. I think they were one of my first forays into European music. Pre-Youtube! I have no idea how I found out about them, lol. I did download tons of music videos through Kazaa and stuff though...could have just been a random find.

Last I checked in on Last.fm, they had integrated into Spotify...so it was essentially just their artist database you were using. Then, when you clicked a track to listen, it would launch Spotify. Pretty weak in my opinion. I think if they continue on this direction, they need to make a better website or something. The easier to use the better. Whenever I have used it, which is admittedly not very much, but I've been confused on certain things, though that was primarily me trying to administer my own artist account. But even so, I've never really liked the lets-integrate-with-another-service approach, because then it launches a separate program, and it doesnt feel like a seamless experience.

Saw American Sniper while I was home in the States. I thought it was good. I'm not usually into modern military movies like that, I'm more sci-fi like Robocop, asian movies, or crime and thrillers. But I was not bored, and Bradley Cooper did a great job.

Well, the absolute latest games I've played were actually Atari Jaguar games. Can you believe that? I had a collection going, but upon playing it again when I returned home a few weeks ago to the States, I decided to sell it. Most of the games are just terrible =P But there are some classics! Iron Soldier is primarily the reason for having a Jaguar. Missile Command 3D was pretty fun too. A number of years ago, when I was in college, I hosted a tournament I called "Jag Off" in which a bunch of friends and I played Jaguar games in a tournament style bracket. Let's just say it got more fun the more we drank. Haha, oh man. The great part about this was the fact that many of the games were so hard because they were so bad.

hahah crap, you are right, my fault for my memory lapse! I was not familiar with those stores in how they will hold things for you like that. That is pretty cool! I know of the stores, though.

Thank you / arigatou everyone! Very insightful and helpful

Bear, I had no idea you were in Norway! Cool, me too So all this stuff resonates with me, especially the preference to not buy from CD-ON and similar stores. When I was in my old band, we actually had copies in some of the Platekompaniet stores around Oslo (they were the only stores I knew about), and they sold the majority of them, but I think it was people we knew As for MP3s, I try to avoid MP3 format. I'm much more OK with the iTunes AAC format, dunno why, but it seems to be at least better, and MP3 I've been using ever since the original Napster! So they seem a bit dated. Funny thing, my very first band's demos are 24kbps MP3s, hahaha. Talk about high resolution! Keep in mind they are from 2001... I'm actually surprised that "buying direct from the band" hasn't received more votes. This could be easily because this forum is geared towards Japanese music, which is particularly difficult for foreigners to get, at least more so than "western" music. And I imagine many aren't going to Japanese bands' websites in all-Japanese and buying direct, if they even have the option...

Hahaha, you made me laugh, can't believe I forgot actual stores Poll edited
  23. Happy new year! First of all, thanks for making my first poll a success (single vs ep vs album)! I have another poll Me personally, I tend to buy more digital downloads, unless I really really want a physical copy. The type of physical copy doesn't matter so much, whether it is CD, CDR, cassette, vinyl, what have you. Sometimes its just cool to have the physical copy. If the option is there, maybe signed. I am quite curious though as to people's general preferences for WHERE they get their music. If I have the option, I would probably buy it direct from the band/artist rather than go through another store, seeing as that way the artist gets the majority of my money, instead of CD Baby taking $4 from each CD or something. But just the same, I tend to gravitate toward iTunes for digital purchases...maybe that is just engrained in my habits from many years Thoughts and opinions? Thanks!

I have an Ouya and it seems to do pretty well with emulators with what I've tried on it, just a handful of PS1 games. It runs Castlevania SOTN flawlessly, that's pretty awesome. For some reason I feel the Xbox Live version looks terrible.... Also, it means I can play things like Lunar 2 which (FOR SOME REASON) still hasn't been added to PSN, even though all the Arc The Lad games have, and Lunar SSS I believe. And for that matter, anyone with a PS4, can it run PS1, etc. games from the PS Store?
