    A forum nostalgic

Hello! I'm Yuan, in my mid-twenties, an art school dropout trying to make it in this hard ass world :^) I used to be really into vk when I was in high school and up to around 5 years ago. I was on Livejournal (the good old dayssss), owned a ton of merch, and went to as many concerts as I could. I had a lot of fun, but a couple years ago, I did a big vk sale, mainly for the money, but also because there were a lot of bands I didn't listen to anymore, namely Alice Nine, and sold their entire discography, which I had diligently collected til then, and many many issues of Shoxx, Neo Genesis, Fool's Mate, etc. Sometimes I regret selling those magazines, especially considering how they've all stopped running... But thankfully I kept most things from my favorite bands! And one day I'll finally complete my collection from Plastic Tree, DEG and Gazette. What has changed since, is that I've lost interest in indie vk, because I just couldn't keep up, although every once in a while there will be a good band that pops up and that will spark my interest. My favorites are BUCK-TICK, Plastic Tree, MUCC, cali≠gari, the GazettE, DIR EN GREY, Deadman, Pierrot, LUNA-SEA, 9GOATS BLACK OUT, MIYAVI, the studs, D'espairsRay, 12012... I guess that covers at least a good general idea. I also listen to a lot of other J-music, and in general, more music than I can name. Other big favorites (from all horizons) include Nujabes, Flying Lotus, Gorillaz, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Thee Oh Sees, toe, Kikagaku Moyo, Shiina Ringo, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Charles Mingus... I'm a big music nerd in general, I've played the piano since I was 5, and listen to a lot of classical, traditional/folk (from all around the world), and experimental music (including noise). It's a big part of my life haha. I love exploring new sounds and expanding my tastes beyond my zones of comfort. I'm also quite invested in visual arts (illustration & animation) as my studies suggested, fashion, cinema, video games, etc. Basically my interests are very broad and I like passionate ramblings. Which is why I love forums! I haven't been on a forum in many years, and I do miss it a lot. I've been reading this one for a while now, and figured it's time to stop being a lurker haha! If curious, esp about my art and/or eventual OOTDs, my @ on most social media is yuanankh (for instance on Twitter and Instagram). I'd love to make new friends, especially since this pandemic has emphasized how important it is to not hesitate to be active online - which I knew already, as I made most of my long-term friends that way anyway.

Production =/= mixing =/= mastering. Production is song creation, choosing instruments, recording them, crafting them to get the right atmosphere for the project. Mixing is the balance of the stems recorded for each song. Mastering is making sure all songs across an album are balanced the same, and getting the final 'sound' of the album with effects like EQ and compression. For example, The Insulated World is a pretty well-produced album (a little laziness in writing aside). The mix is okay, but it's absolutely destroyed by an atrocious master that makes everything sound far too compressed, creating a fatiguing listen.

Rediscovered an old gem - early Wakeshima Kanon. She was so good...

It's funny how at the time of MYV doing the Kvki Boiz stuff, it seemed to have huge mixed reception in the foreign communities. People were shocked by him having like mc hypemen and a DJ. In hindsight, especially considering what he's done in the last decade, that period was so fucking inspired and unique ..

    MUNIMUNI

Looks like there will be some sort of collaboration between 101A, emmurée and MUNIMUNI called GHOST OF ROMANCE in September! There will be a collab CD too featuring covers of all three bands (and maybe some original songs too? not sure about that part).

Gauze's production is a dream. You can definitely hear every instrument in there. Perhaps they had the biggest amount of investment of their whole career at that time... Having Yoshiki arranging your A-sides should have been anything but cheap...

    MUNIMUNI

If I understood correctly, this will be 6 song CD that will be released for sale at gigs first and with online ordering to be planned at a later date. Each band will record their own version of 'Ghost of Romance', which was originally composed by munimuni, and then each will cover a song from another band. Here are three songs mentioned in the flyer: brand new world (emmuree) Beat for you (munimuni) love less (101A)

    JILUKA - IGNITE (NEW SINGLE)

I never implied that it was bad. It's just very JILUKA to me. And I also own everything they've released (once Japan Post will deliver their DVD to me ...) and my comment about them being the new lynch. wasn't meant to be negative. lynch. is a very consistent band that knows their sound, but I generally like every release they have. It was meant to be a humorous nod to consistency. God forbid.

I'm an ordinary person who has been surrounded by tons of amazing people for my entire life. Too talented and skilled that one would easily feel inferior to them. But I don't take it that way. I'd rather say I'm incredibly lucky that these kinds of people exist in real life, not someone cool on TV or in the book, but someone I know personally and very close to me. For example: My maternal aunt - She runs a long time established food business (an industry level) that has been around for many decades. Her net worth is approximately $100m. One of the celebs in this country. My neighbor - A big family who I have known since our grandpa's era that lives only 10 meters away from my house. They run a construction and land business for many decades. Their net worth is ~$30m. My best friend forever's younger brother - A YouTuber (game caster) who has been in the scene since 2012 when only few people knew about monetizing on YouTube. So he is one of the top YouTubers here. His net worth has just reached $3m recently. He is only 26. My high school junior - He is friends with the YouTuber above (26 years old). He has been through a lot in life. He is a developer who runs a software company at the international level. His income is ~$100k/mo. Lately, he and his team launched a cryptocurrency and listed it in Binance and several exchanges. Now it's in the top 60 with a $200m marketcap. (Not gonna mention the name as I'm not promoting it.) Any many more... too many to list all of them. Having these kinds of people around immensely inspires you to do something in life rather than sticking with lazy, passive, and unmotivated people who don't have any certain goals in life. What they have in common is they built up their wealth from scratch literally, not inherited. No supportive daddy and mommy. This is cool af honestly. There is a saying that the books you read and the friends you have can tell what you'll become in the future. Personally, I've been working on several web apps. Not a startup but a one-man team. I've come to the point where I'm not behind anyone in the field anymore (~30,000 hours of practice). I don't know everything, but from where I am, it's not difficult to learn anything new. My flagship project got tons of positive feedback in a world class developer community. So I'm kinda relieved that it's not gonna be a flop. Even if it is, I'd build something better instead of quitting. I'm totally inspired by the people around me.

[Band Battle] キズ (Kizu) vs. DIMLIM

DIMLIM is in the scene basically independently, and without money for almost everything and even then their releases are of great quality. Kizu, for me, everything that came after the single "Zero" is horrible and repetitive for me. So my vote will always be for DIMLIM, in any case, always.
