PV Review: Mondaiji's Love Very
Axius and one other reacted to The Reverend for a post in a topic
VK newbies モンダイジ!! (Mondaiji!!) released a PV for their new song "ラヴベリ-Love very-" and because they decided to disable comments on the video, I had to take my comments here! 'Hey guys! We're Mondaiji!!' I don't like that this caution tape is arranged in such a way that it isn't even pretending to keep anyone out of anything. It looks way more like they were learning about Maypole dances in class that day and had no streamers to make one. Oh no we're only 10 seconds into this video and they've already started adding unnecessary post-effects in editing. They did not have a lot of confidence in this video holding up on its own. See what a I mean? Though this was probably necessary considering the terrible lighting of this PV. 'We don't have a drummer yet.' Did no one think that exposed fluorescent lights maybe wasn't the best they could do for lighting a music video featuring three men in tons of makeup? The lighting just screams 'this is a cheap PV we made on an iPhone!' and is the second worst thing about this video. The worst thing is how unwilling the whole band is to just 'go for it'. I remember Jimi from Chemical Pictures blogging once about how to look cool in a PV you have to be willing to look ridiculous in person because normal movements won't translate with any energy on film. The dancing and jumping and instrument-ing in this video are so half-assed it's like the band are embarrassed. This is also my biggest complaint with their sound so far. I actually kind of like the summer-time fun vibes in the verses of this track, but no one in the band sounds like they really *mean it*. I have no idea what this song is about, so I'm not sure if the classroom relates. But now the vocalist is singing into a chalkboard eraser cause why not. (Though I do appreciate that they gave him a microphone in this PV, nothing makes singers look more awkward than when they have nothing to hold and don't know what to do with their hands.) I feel ya bro. 'Quidditch after class??' I actually think dude on the right's vibrator-on-my-hip blowin-some-bubbles aesthetic is pretty on point. Again, dudes look like they got bored in the middle of shooting their own music video. There's rapping in this song. When will VK vocalists learn that really all you have to do to not sound like my mom or the Beastie Boys trying to rap is rhyme more than one syllable? Also there's no way that little cone would amplify someone's voice whatsoever. 'Oh shit I forgot to hold either my mic or cone or eraser. I'll just mime it for this shot.' What's with the curtains in this classroom? I like to think they shot this video while school was in session somewhere and the school's principal needed all the middle school children to not see the VK horrors lurking in that classroom. (Hopefully it's something innocent like nap-time darkness. Going to school in America, we had drills where we had to hang things to black out the windows so hypothetical school shooters wouldn't be able to see into the classrooms 😢) Who ya got as the GOAT, MJ or LeBron? 'What are you doing to the clock??' 'Hehe, time to go! Saika you're such a trickster!' These guys have a one-man show coming up at Takadanobaba AREA this fall, whoa! -

I would definitely start with Dogma, their last-but-one album. Their earlier albums are all fairly dark and heavy, although saddled with the drummer's occasional pop tunes. Division, Beautiful Deformity and Ninth all have their heavy moments, but they're all more varied too. -

I'm new here, I've been a JRock fan for about 12 years though. A member actually recommended I check this place out, Draincherry2021. :0) I am from the USA, though I've lived in Finland and Germany and traveled a lot. My favorite bands change with my mood but I've seen Dir en Grey live more than any other band. I suppose at this current moment, my top 5 J-Rock bands would be: 1. Matenrou Opera 2. Versailles 3. VIVARUSH, 4. The Raid 5. Moi Dix Mois But again, it changes pretty much daily. ^^ I'm looking to buy JRock stuff, I love buying bulk lots of stuff because its fun to discover new bands that way. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of me. -

announces show at tokyo dome for the holidays throws around record label issues and how they dislike songs, solo projects, members, etc I mean really, if you don't like something just move on. You can just look at news topics and I get people are allowed be upset because artist choices and whatnot but really. Don't like it, just walk by. I've been a long time fan of the group and they're not perfect, no band is honestly. They've done a lot of things I don't like but it doesn't derail me from enjoying aspects of the group. It's just a show at tokyo dome. That's all. If it's a come back then it's a come back. Like it, stay for info. Dislike it, move on. That's all I'll say about it. -

Overall, I think it's safe to say that Awake was the last time they were a band in the true l'arc sense that most of associate as being the band we love. Smile was them learning to work together again, Awake was them actually being a working band together, and Kiss was just the honeymoon period from Awake. I can't even listen to Butterfly and don't even think of it is a real album. It's really just a collection of random singles that don't feel like they work together hence the 4 year recording time for that album. The band up to that point were very concise in the studio leading up to each album. Remember the Ark-Ray singles of 98/99 that felt cohesive but still each song had a distinctive sound of their own? If you look at their touring schedule post the world tour of 2012, you will just see short and calculated concerts to celebrate the 20th or 25th or whatever. https://www.setlist.fm/setlists/larcenciel-43d62367.html They can easily sell out Tokyo Dome easily and I'm sure the labels and management companies for each member are the ones pushing the idea forth more than the members themselves. Those yearly two day back-to-back concerts literally backroll each member's solo career, or in the case of tetsuya and ken, allow them to relatively do nothing in the studio compared to what they used to do in the mid to late 90s. So while I want the band to be the band that can work together and produce consistent work like they did early on 1993-2000, those days are long gone and these upcoming concerts are probably just a cashgrab or conscious effort to keep the l'ard brand alive before another long hibernation as they've been doing for years. I actually quite enjoyed Wing Flaps and thought it was great in a 'True' sense but that too was probably some other behind the scenes management thing which we'll find out years later "My management spoke with their management and we decided to meet in the studio to see if we could work things out...." type motivating factor behind the single and the other recent ones. While the money split might be the real reason, I took public Japanese way of saying that the members can't work with each other anymore. Are there any interviews from hyde and ken where they state they want L'arc to go on? I actually always thought the opposite, that Hyde would rather go solo/Vamps and ken would rather do nothing. Yukihiro probably has it best of all of them as he doesn't need any band for the Depeche Mode like music he makes. He's equally sufficient being a part of a band or a mad scientist in the computer/studio. Based on tetsuya's autobiography, tetsugaku (https://mei-24.livejournal.com/14719.html), - he always had to deal with the difficult parts of being the band leader. He was the one who kept the band together and kept pushing it forward. Regarding Sakura's departure / being kick out of the band. You can very clearly deduce that Hyde and ken were against the idea of so quickly moving forward with the Reincarnation live and held a grudge against tetsu at the time. Ken would later team up with Sakura in SOAP, so there definitely was no ill-will there. Some quotes from the translations. Tetsuya's words in bold: =================================================================================================== I want to add that I am also proud that I have been able to make my band move further as a leader. As for the results, of course it’s not all due to me, but I believe that I have been able to choose the right path. Because I am sure that each time I’m doing the best choice. For example, when sakura quitted, there were many ideas, as you may expect. The same happened when we did the Reincarnation live at Tokyo Dome. There were several opinions, so, in the end, if I had chosen a different path, how it would be today? -At the time of your return with “L’Arc-en-Ciel 1997 Reincarnation” live, you were convinced that “if it’s not Tokyo Dome, it doesn’t have any meaning”, so you didn’t give in. The manager we had at that time was against the idea. He said it was unreasonable, but as a result we sold out all the tickets in 4 minutes, the fastest selling in history. To tell the truth after sakura left, to my shock I was accused of having kicked sakura without mercy. In the end, even members thought that. =================================================================================================== Following that incident there is bound to be friction and this led to that period of l'arc's history right after that whole burn-out inducing rollercoaster of heart-ark-ray-real that led into a hiatus. You can surmise that Tetsu and Hyde started doing solo activities after that tme to find their own ways and that turned into Hyde wanting to leave the band outright during or after Roentgen's release. =================================================================================================== - You said you’ve thought of quitting L’Arc-en-Ciel several times. But your band had a big crisis, too. Would you like to tell us the details? It was in 2002 maybe. hyde’s manager came to my office and handed me an envelope, saying that he had received it directly from hyde. Inside there were the CDs I had lent him and a letter. In that letter he apologized for having kept those CDs for more than 10 years, and announced he wanted to quit the band. -Honestly, what did you think about it at that moment? I thought that once hyde decided it, nothing could be done. He wrote me a letter, so he had surely spent a lot of time reflecting upon this thing. Well…more than “nothing could be done”, I thought that, despite every effort to stop him, he wouldn’t change his mind. " =================================================================================================== -

Hello everyone, I've been a Visual Kei fan since 2004 when I discovered J-Rock with Asian Kung Fu Generation and subsequently Visual Kei through L'Arc~en~Ciel through Fullmetal Alchemist and quickly found DIR EN GREY and X Japan. I was a fan of everything FROM ∀NTI FEMINISM, An Cafe, Girugamesh and 蜉蝣 to Phantasmagoria, Moi dix Mois and Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet- from 2004 up until around 2010. I then fell into Japanese hip hop and left the scene until last year while keeping up with stuff like DIR EN GREY and the GazettE. Anyway, since last year I've been back in it and quite deeply and it's been nice discovering so many new bands and the nostalgia of the bands I used to love. I was always ostracized and ridiculed about my musical choices in my youth (my youth? I'm only 28 xD) and I ended up finding a soul mate who enjoys Visual Kei as well, especially DAMY, but that doesn't mean that I am not looking to create friendships as friends with similar musical interests are few and far between. I've been a fan of a variety of subgenres over the years, everything from your traditional Visual Kei to Oshare-kei and Nagoya-kei. My favorite bands since I've come back would have to be TRNTY D:CODE, Darian Marian, SARIGIA, dexcore, DatuRΛ, MISERIA, and I was really fond of DEVIZE, VRZEL and MEJIBRAY. As far as old bands I've always loved anything MORRIE does; so DEAD END, 黒夢, PENICILLIN, GLAY, X Japan, Luna Sea and D'erlanger. Oh my, I apologize for writing what has essentially turned into a short story! I guess I can end this by saying that I've been aware of this place for some years and used to lurk off and on in the past and I'm happy to be here now. -

How do you guys deal with depression?
platy reacted to colorful人生 for a post in a topic
After dealing with depression for a few years, I'll give some of my pointers (that worked for me.) Seek Counseling/Support Group/Family When things got rough for me, and I was feeling my worst; I felt like the last thing I should do was to "push" my problems on someone else. I would conflate that idea to completely isolating myself from friends and family, not making contact whatsoever. In that distorted mindset, you feel like everyone is better off without you and no one should worry about you, etc., but that is not true at all. Everyone still worries about you, and you're making it more difficult for yourself to get the help that you need. We spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves, and our own failures/problems, so we have a tendency to think that others are thinking the same about you. That's absolutely not the case. Try your hardest not to dwell on the past b/c ultimately it's about who you become, people can change. Your past doesn't have to define you, in your eyes. I was especially scared to tell my parents I was dealing with depression, b/c they didn't really "believe" in it at the time. I too convinced myself I was purposefully being lazy and neglectful, but when you spend a lot of your day sleeping/not moving/ignoring hobbies... that's not normal... Like a couple others in this thread, feel free to inbox/dm me. I'm not a professional, but I certainly don't mind giving advice/people talking to me. Please seek guidance from another individual, that one person or persons could be the catalyst for you to get better. Don't be ashamed of seeking counseling. I think more people need counseling, it's extremely helpful. Getting a Physical/Blood Work/Medication I ended getting up getting blood work done after coming home to find out I had a sharply elevated red blood cell count compared to previous tests done. Turns out that was from my lack of oxygen b/c of constricted nasal passages -> poor sleep, hence my constant tiredness (a sleep study might reveal sleep apnea, but losing weight & allergy medicine (helps passage constriction) has worked like a charm so far.) I was pretty sedentary for a long time, so I was severely out of shape too (which exacerbates said problems.) So while I was gradually becoming more fatigued (lack of oxygen/poor sleep, shit diet, no exercise) I was also taking on more classwork/work which caused a snowball effect. If you can, seek your primary physician and get yourself checked out, you never know if it could be something else. Otherwise, don't be afraid of medication. Just make sure if you have any side-effects that make things worse, stop immediately and seek your doctor for alternative options. Diet & Exercise Yes, I did get a gym membership... I know there's a lot of hesitation b/c of costs, but I can assure you it is wholeheartedly worth it. I worked with a personal trainer for a few months and lost about 11kg/25lbs in that time-frame. I still have a lot more work to do, but I'm getting closer to a healthy weight. I feel better and I look better which has made me much happier :D. Stop the soda, stop the fast food, take vitamins/supplements, and cook for yourself. Drink water, drink water, drink water, drink, water... It seems like a hurdle at the start, but trust me it gets easier, so much easier. Also, go outside and get some fresh air, it helps too. You are what you eat/do. Getting Organized So once I got into an exercise/dieting routine, that helped kick-start my organizational tendencies. If you make a daily planner, it helps put "meaning" into everything. It helps you inject more discipline into your life, which I find much more effective than looking for motivation. No, don't wait until someone tells you to do something, or you're prompted to do something -just do it, no excuses. It might seem cumbersome at first, but it helps structure your life tremendously. You don't have to follow this in verbatim. Ultimately, everyone is their own and different things work for different people... But, I think these choices can help dramatically improve your quality of life. -
1 point2005 gazette vs 2012-2018 gazette is very different in my opinion Even some singles starting from filth and beauty leading up to the Remember the Urge get heavy but it shows more so in 2012-2018 (Excluding best albums and Toxic because that was just a weird album for me in my opinion and kinda in between idk)

0 points@nekkichi is correct, and it is also important to consider the culture of the boards as well. Even in the English-speaking world, a report of rape or murder or suicide will be presented in a much different way on Twitter or Tumblr than on say, 4chan or Encyclopedia Dramatica. Tanuki/2ch are extremely blase and candid about sordid topics and sounding "self-pitying" (for lack of better words) would be extremely frowned upon given the board's culture. It is not a nice place. People mock suicide victims and eagerly discuss their desire to commit child abuse. While I understand the reports are just as unverifiable as anything else on Tanuki, it seems irresponsible to make judgments on what a woman's report on this type of thing "should sound like", especially for those who are not familiar with the posting culture & for those who haven't experienced or witnessed the societal and scene-specific issues mentioned in the post above.
