What is dungeon synth, you say? Dungeon synth is a form for ambient that draws heavily from black metal and dark ambient. But I'll stop there and just quote a wiki instead: Everyone knows I'm very much into black metal, and while the music itself doesn't resemble black metal, the atmosphere sure do and I can't think of a genre closer to black metal than this. Which is probably why I've become such a huge fan, and in recent year the genre have seen a massive revival with a shitload of new artists popping up everywhere. So I've really gotten into the genre beyond Mortiis, and grown familiar with lots of new and old artists. I don't expect this thread to be popular at all, but if you like 90's black metal and listen to that type of music for the atmosphere I am sure you'll find this very interesting and enjoyable too, tbh. And it's the perfect soundtrack for an evening of tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons and other fantasy games. So. That was fucking noise... scarcely sounds like Ajna outside the refrain. I like the varied time signatures of the djentcore sound but at a certain point... The guitar solo was good and would have been appreciated if it didn't sound like they were trying to play similar solos OVER all the breakdowns which make up the entirety of the song lmao... This band is very talented, but they need to find an identity. They've basically already done everything this sub-genre has to offer VK... covers and themes are some typical-core try hard warped religious iconography - music is just ADHD af...

Not a D.I.D fan (don't dislike them, just never really heard them), but I really like DIMLIM so far. The mini-album is actually one of my favourite purchases this year. The music production could probably be a bit better, but I kinda like the roughness of it; it goes well with the composition and Sho's vocals. And OMG Sho's vocals... They're so good!! I first heard アハレワタ, and was intrigued by the screams. I put it on the back burner though, until I heard 「初潮」 and decided I NEEDED to get the mini album I still need to get the limited edition version of the mini-album for the extra songs, but so far my favourites are THE INVISIBLE and 浄土の花.

I only like their music until 2005. When they went major there was a change in their music, more mainstream and it lost appeal to me. I don't understand why they must change their music style when they go major if their music is already working.

Nightmare in general is very despised overall, even though they are much more capable, consistent and proven than most VK groups and quite a few regular Jrock bands. Being very popular (at least a few years back) but not being absolutely excellent also makes them an easy target. I am also quite sure that during the late 2000's when VK was more popular they were seen as a "band noobs like" because their music was a geatway into VK for many people due to anime. Most of the older VK fans at the time started to be actively dismissive in Nightmare topics because they associated the band with ignorance about the scene. The trend has persisted as the band's output has been much less consistant but it still existed in 2008, 2009 when their music was more solid and cohesive. There are also people who just don't like the band or Yomi's vocals. Also keep in mind that negative reactions are much more motivating than positive ones and people are much more inclined to show opposition than interest, specially on the internet. This creates a climate that does not encourage constructive talk about the band because bad impressions pile up so much that people who may want to say other kind of thigs feel out of place. Happens in every communty in every place on the internet; everything is, to a degree, a sort of echo chamber of negative feedback. TL;DR - Some peole think Nightmare was too popular for how good they are. Also, it's the internet.
