Also from Erogro. This band is not really about that tho. Their earliest stuff is pure nu-metal vk that's unfortunately not all that great. I like the Gazerock sounding songs around the era of the first album and then hopped back on around syojoshoushitsu.

Klaha's voice definitely conveys so many emotions, especially with the beautiful compositions it's layered over. Klaha era delivers solitude and sorrow, Gackt era delivers joy and love, and Tetsu era delivers anxiety and uncertainty. I'd never be able to pick a favorite era because each one conveys something different and does it exceptionally well.

Hello, Just wanting to leave my introduction and hopefully greet some of you! First of all please feel welcome to talk to me anytime, I’m Jia. I’ll do my best to reply and we can talk about vkei, new releases and any other interests together. As for me; I’ve been listening to vkei and various Japanese groups since around 2008, so a little over 11 years give or take! In actuality I started through my dad who casually would listen to X-Japan but I didn’t actively look for bands or music on my own until that 2008. My friend who already listened to groups like GazettE, Lolita23q and Malice Mizer and I would essentially just go around clicking on any recommendation on YouTube and go from there; naturally I found Dir en Grey, BLOOD, Buck-Tick, SID, ViViD and of course from my username you can tell my deep love of L’arc en ciel also so i’ll leave it at that as I assume you’ll get the point from those groups. Unfortunately, i’ll have to say that I’ve not been the most active in social media since the past few years back so I only really kept up with bands and vkei through directly listening, buying albums and keeping an eye out for concerts and lives, from the fact I live in London it’s not too uncommon for bands to have came here so I feel I’ve been very lucky for that although of course there’s still plenty of artists i’d love to see, be it here or it’ll have to be on my own travel. As for more recent active groups from Dadaroma, ACME, Dexcore, D=OUT, Dimlim and SHIN. I’m also anticipating the upcoming Ashmaze. Whilst my personal taste often leans more towards a heavier sound i’m always open to all kinds of sounds and flavours. Finding monochrome-heaven for me means I can be much more informed and active in the community and hopefully it’ll mean I am able to support more artists as well as find people who share my interests. I guess for me that’s my main goal here. Really I’d love to make more friends who enjoy vkei still, most of mine have moved onto various other interests as a focal point so talking about vkei and j-rock with people has become less common for me these days sadly, but like I said I’m glad I found this place because I feel hopefully I can talk with some nice people! So again please don’t feel shy to approach me. If you've read until now, thank you. Let’s get along! ♡

Can anyone point me in the direction of their heavier back catalogue please? I've tried a couple of albums but they seem so inconsistent even for a VK band 🤣 I love Dokumoru and Doku Mawaru but haven't really found anything similar 😕

And the problem is just how freakin toxic they tend to be. Just because they’re in perpetual mourning and “see” dead people doesn’t mean they can be assholes to the living... did you ever run into any of them?

I may be in the minority here... I love all eras, don’t get me wrong, but Klaha era is one of the best things to ever happen to VK to music. Bara no Seidou, especially. That album is pure beauty. I remember when I first heard it... when it ended, I was like “where TF was I for the past 51 minutes and 42 seconds?” It just transports the listener in its own world. The picture it paints is second in vividness only to Dir en grey’s Dum Spiro Spero, and far more delicate. It’s like it’s a whole album-length song, honestly. I can’t even think of listening to the songs alone (with the exception of “Kyomu no Naka de no Yuugi”). Anyone here agree?

First listen opinions: "Baku" is kinda odd. It has the potential to be something absolutely sick but feels kinda unfinished and rushed, but I really like the emphasis on atmosphere. "Sense of Distrust" does the "heavy verses poppy chorus" thing pretty well I must say. I honestly consider that formula to be one of the worst things going on within the br00tal kei scene but the melody is very engaging, props to them for being able to get it right! Not anything to say on the SE track really. It's nice as far as SEs go, and while its addition already reeks of "we don't have anything else to put on the single", its placement as the last track feels really weird and it doesn't add absolutely anything to the single. I kinda liked it more than Ideal tbh

Nice review, this album it's 6/10 for me. Here is some interview translation I did in news thread on why they change style so drastically. "I just read chiaki's new interview on cure, it seems like this album is his answer to this question(why doing music) he kept searching for over a year. Basically he's in existential crisis right now. Here's a brief translate(Sorry for my bad English): -Why name this album [Today] Chiaki: How to get through [Today], to me its really difficult for past year. I have insomnia for over a year, can't sleep, don't wanna go out. I know there is no answer but I'm keep searching by hang out with members and go on tour(That explained why their last tour name is"Please save/help chiaki"). Sometime I get a little realization but mostly don't. So it's really difficult for me to live through everyday. Although you might think:"Even though you depressed before bed, you just close your eye and today will end, right?" . The answer is no, it doesn't. Because there are no ways you can experience tomorrow, you can only live in "Today". I wanna get an answer, otherwise there will be no inner peace in my mind. In order to move forward from this restless state, from now on I will create songs on this premise. I'm not trying to deny our past, I will still write heavy songs when I'm angry, but right now this album is my state of mind. I know a lot of people will think:"wtf are you guys doing, you changed so much", I don't expect this album will reach to everybody, it would be great if I can create something everybody like, but I cant. If there is one moment in the album that can resonate some of you, for me right now, its the happiest thing ever. I expect a lot of backlash, I will take full responsibility, that's how important this album to me. " After read this interview, that explain why they have some thematically change on lyric since live-distributed single ohayou. It changed from grotesque theme to this kind of existential theme. Some of the lyric in ohayou means "I used to be think everything was fine but now every morning I wake up feel like shit,why is that? whats wrong with me? It really suck." "I dont wanna live yet I dont wanna die, I just keep singing" "when can I smile again from bottom of my heart, I wanna go back to that morning" So my guess is his depression start around that time(2016).

I get the feeling that japanese dark wave artists that openly associate with VK will always be kind of rare since there's already a well established scene for them to operate in and they both already share the same melodramatic elements and extravagant visuals. It's essentially a niche within a constantly shrinking niche. There was a wave of them in the past but aiming to make it as "a VK artist" was a lot more profitable back then and hoping to reach broader audiences probably seemed like a more realistic prospect for the guys pulling the strings. I imagine there must have been more room to try things out and cross into different genres than there has been in recent times. Also Shuji had to establish himself as a scene veteran first before he could start messing around and release music as Goatbed and XA-VAT. Basically you've gotta keep your fingers crossed that another VK daddy will come up with a new side-project where he gets to play whatever the hell he wants.

The ones who claim to have seen the spirits of deceased artists (and tend to be VERY toxic on the side). Often found among the more extreme fringes of X Japan fans.
