    #32: Cocytus by Hora

Well, I liked the disc but to said the truth, Hora + Kaya are a match, so I'm with you Shanet . I like Hora, he has too much talent and since Schwartz Stein I really loved his work. His sound is unique and you'll find a incredibly mix of sounds that makes his music so fascinating. I like hows always so dark XD and different in so many ways to the actual j-music. And yes, I recommend this. Thanks for the Review!

    Hey Everyone

Hey everyone! I'm not new as you can tell. Just like to properly introduce myself here since I really didnt go on this site. I lurked around. Id be surpirised if somene recognize this account. Met a couple of cool people though. Well where I am at with visual kei/jrock is not so much in my zone of music. Still there, but not so much. It deteriorated through out the years because I felt it being too repetitive. I like to say it definiteley influenced me a lot to what I am now. Fashion for sure. I still legitimately listen to Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Moi Dix Mois, emmuree, The God and Death Stars, Blood Stain Child, Girugamesh and X Japan. Yeah not much heh I remember listening to Unsraw, Black:List, Lab., Deathgaze, An Cafe (oh bou my obsession), Sadie, Alice Nine, Maximum the Hormone, GaGaaling, [13], Yaminade, Necro Circus, Byakura, Vannessa, The Candy Spooky Theater and some more. Mostly just listened to their PV's or whatever I can find on youtube. So why am I back? I like talking about music and hey I still have some vk in me hehe

Day 2: I was eager to see both Haemophagus and Execration, but as both played so fucking early we didn't bother going to see them. Shame, but that's life. Septicflesh started off the day for us as both my brother and friend wanted to see them, and they were, as expected, a fucking disgrace. They turned to shit many, many, many years ago and live they're even worse. This might be the worst concert I've ever been at. 1/10 Antichrist was next up, and I was impressed. A bit too polished on album, but live they were very good. Thrashed out and had fun. 7/10 1349 was next and they did their usual stuff. Solid liveband, but they were the exactly same as last time I saw them, just with more boring songs to play. 6/10 Vulture Industries had a special show this evening, but they had started earlier than expected so I only catched the second half of their concert. Apart from one moment the 25 minutes I saw were amazing. Did really well on stage, and at one point the band went 100% Devil Doll and it was nothing short of brilliant! Shame I missed the first half of the concert. 8/10 Behemoth was the first headliner of the festival, a concert I had been looking forward to because of their last album, but was sceptical towards due to 10 years of shit prior to that. But god damn did they deliver the goods. Powerful, majestic, crushing and god damn awesome. Visually amazing as well as a great performance by all the members. Especially frontman Nergal was amazing and Orion looked really well on stage. The whole concert was perfect, and even shitty songs from the shitty albums Demigod, The Apostasy and Evangelion worked really well live. That's impressive, because how it is possible to make shit like that sound god is beyond me. The only thing that disappointed me here was that they didn't play a single song from their early (92-98) period. That's disappointing because they have more than enough classics to choose from that period, but apart from that I have nothing to complain about. Brilliant and the highlight of the festival for me. 10/10 Doomraiser ended the concert with a "nachspiel" concert at another location after Behemoth. It was OK. But I was too tired to focus at that point. To be continued again...

A small Inferno Festival update. As usual there was too much good too drink and lots of great peole to hang around with. Oh, and plenty great bands. Day 1: I had massive expecations to the bands I was seeing this day, and I'll have to admit I was a tad disappointed by all of them. Had expected much more. Misþyrming was first out and did good, but not nearly as good as I had expected. But I'm not overly familiar with their music to begin with, and that probably had much to say. 6/10 Sinmara is another band I am not too familiar with before, and I thought it all seemed way to generic both musically and visually. Not bad, but not amazing either. 5/10 Svartidauði was good, but very disappointing as I love their album and shit. Was poor visually, but musically allright. 6/10 Naglfar was a huge disappointment. Watched the first four songs before we gave up. Was shit. 2/10 Arcturus finished this evening off and was very good, but visually it was a big disappointment. Lacked the theatrics and was more or less doing exactly the same as last time I saw them, just with another setlist. Sounded good, though, and the new songs were cool. 7/10 This was the end of day 1, and I was drunk off my mind and had too high expectations. Probably ruined it for me, cause I've seen nothing but praise for the three icelandic bands other places. To be continued...

Because I'm on college break, I've been posting in here earlier than usual as soon as the clock hits midnight. You would bump the thread just a bit earlier than when midnight hits here, and I personally like it when we can bump this thread quite early (as you do) and quite late (as I usually do). I don't think I'm making much sense but please post whenever, sorry for the confusion, this is more a reminder to myself lol. x'D

I think I am actually already a member of this website. It's been a long time since I visited as I never seed because it takes up a bunch of my bandwith and I am not able to do anything else on the internet as I am downloading/uploading. But meh, let's give it a try again. edit: This is actually the same torrent I found on KickAss.to, but it didn't load its metadata or something. Weird. Oh, now I see why. Apparently the client I use is on BakaBT's blacklist. I've downgrade to an older version and now it works (?)

    #32: Cocytus by Hora

Artist: Hora Album: Cocytus Score: EDM super producer, Hora, is one of the most unique figures in the Visual Kei scene today... And has been for over a decade. Where most visual rock stars compose songs that are largely based on electric guitar, bass, and drums; Hora only uses his homemade synthesizers to create some of the greatest dance music you'll ever hear in your life. While he prefers to remain as obscure and indie as possible, if he would open himself up to a more global market he would surely give acts like Tiesto and Afrojack a run for their money. /p> Over these past 13 years, Hora has composed around 45 songs for darkwave/trance duo Schwarz Stein; but a staggering 119 songs for his solo career and all while using vocals so sparingly one would wonder how he could keep it so constantly interesting.... The short answer is that it isn't always interesting, I'll admit. Being a huge fan since day one of Schwarz Stein, I also follow Hora's and Kaya's solo activities quite closely and have always listened to Hora's solo albums no matter how disappointing they ended up being. However, it seems that he managed to reignite the fire of his solo project around 2 years ago when he released Cocoon and then kicked it up about 70 notches for Desolation Beauty last year, ultimately resulting in this year's splendid Cocytus. This is the first album of material he's produced since Schwarz Stein's official return to the scene and it shows. This album is significantly darker than his last one and utilizes the same sort of synths that were featured in Schwarz Stein's most recent single "Sleeping Madness" and by that I mean the beats are hard and fast. The album opener is fairly typical for Hora, unfortunately. Very melodramatic and slow and ultimately just very repetitive. The song drags on way too long and doesn't provide the listener with much intrigue. Along with Underwater and Winter Blood, this song can be skipped to prepare yourself for the real meat and potatoes of the album. The second track is one of the absolute best Hora solo songs I've ever heard. "Frost" has the dramatic Hora flair that one must appreciate in order to be a fan while also delivering one of the hardest beats of his career. Please, please listen to this song above and you will not regret it. Following up this magnificent song is the second best song on the album, "Babel," which is considerably darker and deeper than "Frost." This is also his first composition in a long time that utilizes his harsh vocals. The only lyrics on this song, or the whole album in general, are "Let there be light." Title track "Cocytus" is a lot like album opener "Chamber of Fear" in that it's rather long and drawn out and does sort of the same thing continuously for no real added effect. Additionally, the use of string instruments becomes quite gratuitous when you're trying to listen to a dance album, but I digress. This is all just opinion, of course. The use of string instruments is something I've appreciated over the years and can see why people would enjoy their existence, but sometimes it's just too much. Tracks 5 and 10 are essentially a two part series known as "Pray to God." The former song "Doom" has the same spacey quality as "Without Words" but in a much lighter atmosphere. The beat takes a while to kick in, but once it does it's actually quite fast and played under the melody of the piano to produce something very lighthearted (ironic for a song called "Doom," right?) The second in the series, "Heir" has a very interesting introduction. It's super glitchy, meaning there's no beat but the synths sort of skip around and sound like a broken video game. The second synths kick in not long into the song and create a continuation of the spacey vibe that "Doom" sets up. When the piano starts in this song it immediately echoes the piano of "Doom" and finishes out by adding a slower version of the beat in its predecessor. Other extremely notable tracks are "My Vendetta" and the aptly-yet-reduntantly-named "Without Words" which are heavy/dark and mid tempo respectively. "My Vendetta" is the shortest song on the album and packs a decent punch in just 3.5 minutes... Which is actually a great thing considering if it had gone on too much longer it would get into the too-repetitive category due to the fact it doesn't change it's beat that much and is sort of a lot of the same sound. "Without Words" is more elegantly composed and utilizes more than one sound to make it's point. While I could see how someone could describe it as "lengthy," it has an ephemeral and spacey quality that hasn't quite been prominent on Hora's albums since Prominence in 2006. All in all, this is definitely among Hora's best solo works. I highly recommend it as a general piece of music and find that it could likely be appreciated by all walks of life as it isn't too intense in any one genre at any one point. That being said, I do hope that Hora's and Kaya's priority over the next few months is to create a full-length Schwarz Stein album. I find that Kaya and Hora work best when they're together even though their individual talents are something quite formidable. It's like combining the two best things to make something even more impressive. Hora is the chocolate to Kaya's peanut butter or the Sonny to his Cher. They're best when together.

    Renge

    Heyyy

I just realised I never made an intro post. I am the user Renge (named after Renge Miyauchi from Non Non Biyori, one of the few anime I've enjoyed recently) I used to be way into anime and manga, but now I'm more into music. I still like anime and manga, but not as much as I did. I'm 18 y/o and studying Japanese as a minor at uni (in the UK - if anyone could tell me the best places to order VK CDs without the insane shipping costs to the UK, please let me know.) I've only recently gotten into visual kei... sort of. When I was about 15 I had a brief period where I liked visual kei, but I can't even remember what bands I listened to, so I'm basically starting over. Music is a huge part of my life and there are tons of different kinds I like. I enjoy post-rock, post-punk, jpop (sometimes kpop, but not as much), emo (as in The Saddest Landscape, La Dispute, Touche Amore etc)... I'll try listening to anything that seems interesting, really. My current favourite vk bands are Mejibray, Galeyd, DEG, Rentrer En Soi and D'espairsRay, but I don't know a ton of vk bands so I'll probably gain a lot more favourites as time goes on. Anyway, my intro is dumb and I rambled a lot, so sorry for that :/ EDIT: my last.fm is miyauchi_renge if anyone wants to add me lol

Finished Shigatsu and damn that ending was perfect. Honestly I'm just all over this show, I know that there's other people who don't like it for whatever reasons , but I find it hard to give it anything less than a 9/10 because I truly enjoyed every single second of it. The only thing stopping it from the perfect score is the sometimes out of place slap stick comedy moments but even those didn't really bother that much in fact more than a few times I liked the placement of them, they did a good job of relieving some of the intense drama that was happening to the characters.
