4 pointsI feel like an idiot because it took me a year to finally realize why there are hardly any tumblr users around my age - basically because the site is full of confused kids/young adults trying to make sense of reality through highly delusional rants, memes, and text posts. These kids have no idea who they really are yet, but they constantly cling to all of these ridiculous titles and acronyms. I suppose it gives them a sense of identity...a sense of belonging...even if that sense is questionable. If they only define themselves by titles/acronyms, they won't have a clue who they really are when those things no longer matter (outside of tumblr and the internet). Ah well. In retrospect, I suppose I wasn't much different at that age either. At any rate, I guess I no longer have to ask myself why everone I meet there is usually 15-23 years of age lol. Just thinking aloud here...

ok, right upfront, am i the only one, that deson't really get all the exitement about this album? it pretty much falls into the cathegory "appreciate the effort, but no thanks" i'll start with what is (very!) good about this release. you can tell that there went a lot of effort into all of these tracks. there are tons of different and interesting ideas incorporated into pretty much all of these songs by every single member and the production team aswell at some points. it is also great that everyone seems to have stepped out of their comfort-zone a bit doing things a little different than in their previous bands to create something new. also there isn't any performance that only goes by the standard procedure of a bass/git/vox/drum formula. everyone tries to add something unique to it, so it doesn't become a "kyo+friends"-sideproject. with all this effort, with all this willingness to take a risk, with all the creativity-input from every side, i really really really wanted to like this record. i tried hard to, but now after four listens or so i think i don't, and here is why. ------------ unfortunately the songs in their completed stage don't work. that is as themselves, and as the 16-track combination that is this album. you can tell that this is a very new project, that hasen't really accustomed to each other yet. you can tell that there is always eclectic stuff going on in the guitars, some eclectic stuff with the bass and some offbeat drumming going on, all buried under eclectic multilayered falsetto-choruses from kyo, but none of this really fits the other. it feels more like an endless stream of random ideas in each part, that every member had lieing around somewhere on their harddrive added afteranother and layered over another. there is very few occasions, where one of the parts actually serves the other or compliments it. furthermore there then is very little developement or dramaticality in the tracks, they start at some point, morph their initial idea/groove a few times around and then at some point they end, like a shapeless form of music, that just happens to be as long as it is. no progression, no (or very little and poorly executed) transitions and very little to be exited for then. this results unfortunately in an album where very little sticks to the mind and which is, despite all its originality, pretty boring. there are only 3 or four tracks that manage to make a slight dent in my memory, but even those are only kinda meh-ish, all the rest is a shapeless blob of random noodling. ------------------- and now for the obligatory (current!) DEG refernce, deg members have most of the time a very similar, boxy and eclectic, un-catchy type of playing, even their "melodic" tracks aren't really that melodic at all. but they have managed to put all their weirdness together. to know when to take a step back and just do chugchug, when to abruptly end phrases to get into a completely different gear for a bridge/chorus/whatevs. despite everyone sucking pretty bad at their instruments of choice, through knowing and considering each others abilities and giving each other space they managed to incorporate their ungroovy ideas to create breathing and obscure lively behemoths of songs that keep you on the edge of the seat. this is the very quality, that sukekiyo still lacks greatly, a good songwriter/arranger to put all that creative brilliance into good use in a dramatical and organic song. not doing a track by track, but in general this album would probably get sth like a 6/10 (4 of that for effort), who knows, mabe it'll grow on me, but i doubt it. -

i never got the full hang of doujin music unfortunately, i guess most of the time the horrid sound of the production made me back of a bit it is definitely a field that i should explore more, because it essentially is like the nerdiest thing that humankind has come up with so far. selfpublished powermetal covers with computergenerated voices to songs of hardcore indie vertical-scroller bullet-hell videogame soundtracks.... that sentence oozes nerdism out of every particle that beeing said, there is one artist(/circle?) that grabbed my attention, which is DEMETORI he is (like most of them) a damn rad guitar-shred machine, but also has the skills for a very fine production of his also pretty sweet arrangements shameless self-promotion ahead i even did a Cover/Reproduction of one of his tracks (a re-recorded cover of a rearranged cover so to say...) also i need to mention one particular circle/album, which is just too damn addictive (and the production is sort of just listenable enough ^^) and that is the one album by Undead Corporation, where they mixed their powermetal/metalcore with taiko drums and flutes and ditched the shouting/scrreming vocals to create some of the most epic and melodic tracks i have discovered in the wide field of anything "metal" so far... -

WTF-inducing Japanese vocals
beni and one other reacted to fitear1590 for a post in a topic
WTF-inducing Japanese vocals At least from the perspective of an English speaker, I think Japanese vocalists can sometimes produce the strangest sounds from their mouth holes. Let's discuss those moments here. Now, "WTF-inducing" doesn't necessarily mean bad; in fact, I have more positive than negative examples! Here are a few examples of Japanese vocals that completely took me off guard the first time I heard them. The Good 愛狂います。 (Aicle) in "豚の王様「ニトログリセリン」" (Vocalist: Emiru) This song consists of about 3 lines of actual lyrics. The rest of the "vocals" come in the form of grunts, screeches, growls, and yes, pig oinks. Wonky as shit, but I love this track. 女王蜂 (Ziyoou-vachi) in all of their songs, tbh (Vocalist: Avu-chan) Avu-chan tends to switch abruptly between a gruff "male" voice and squeaky "female" voice, just adding another layer of weirdness on this major-label noisy ass punk group. 戸川純 (Jun Togawa) in "パンク蛹化の女" Jun Togawa was always nuts, but I think this "punk" version of her hit song "mushi no onna" illustrates in the most obvious way just how "out there" here anti-idol act was. Listen to her scream her heart out passionately over a delightfully cheerful synth version of Pachelbel's Canon! 己龍 (Kiryu) in most songs (Vocalist: Mahiro) I think Mahiro has to be one of the most consistently "extreme" vocalists in VK. He's frantic, sounds like he's on the verge of crying, he moans, cackles, and growls like a demon. Love him! 神聖かまってちゃん (shinsei kamattechan) in most songs (Vocalist: Noko) Similar to Jun Togawa, there's a raw, yet childish energy to Noko's vocals. HOWEVER, Noko is actually a guy. He pitch shifts and adds other effects to achieve this scary sound. Just imagine a grown man saying "fuck you" in pitch shifted baby vocals... The Bad 己龍 (Kiryu) in "鬼祭" (Vocalist: Mahiro) As much as I love Mahiro's craziness, I do think he went overboard on one song. In 鬼祭, he does inhale-y growls through the song's entire chorus. It's just off-putting and doesn't really work. Going for falsetto notes that you can't hit There are plenty of examples for this, but I'll focus on Shaura of the band VII-Sense. Just watch this clip (hopefully it starts at the right time) and see if you can listen to the entire vocal outro without cringing. The sad thing is I liked his voice in all his previous bands! I don't know what happened... The Raid. in "JUDGEMENT" (Vocalist: sena) The Raid. have come to embody what I dislike about 80% of current VK, so apologies for the bias. (All the more disappointing, because I really enjoyed the preview for their first single.) ANYWAY, just watch the video. From their weak-ass "airy" growls to the absolutely goofy falsetto in the chorus, nothing meshes. I just have a very confused look on my face when I see this video. Discuss! Post your own examples (youtube videos in "spoilers," please!) -

The Madeth Gray'll "outburst of emotion" channeling in "鬼祭" were such a turnoff for me. Thankfully the 2nd track on the single ended up being one of their best songs ever ("柘榴"). Speaking of whiiiich: http://youtu.be/_L8-8TxCZns?t=2m23s Hisui is the queen of making strange noises. There's another song that's not on Youtube at the moment in which he literally sounds like he's being electrocuted, so I'll try to figure out how to upload that later~~~ His only rival that I can think of, that does it justice, is Kyouka. http://youtu.be/C-lET7NLp7o?t=5m58s -

I enjoy most of Blu-BiLLioN's songs.. but Mike's glaringly off-pitch lead-in vocals of "with me" is one of the wtf moments for me. How did no one notice this? Also, I believe I have a reasonably high "tolerance" for unusual vocals and experimental tonalities, but the vocalist of Various (can't be bothered to search for his name) is simply unlistenable. Skip to 1:50 - 2:00 (please buy insurance for your ears beforehand) to hear literally one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard not only in vk but all of music.I don't want to get started on his "harsh vocals".... -

I would like to thank you, cause i totally forgot about this crazy band. This video starts from the best part of this song. I'm serious! I'm completely okay with entire song, it sounds normal . Whats wrong with me? (I've been listening to oldschool and new wave of glam metal/hard rock bands for a long period of time. Maybe thats the explanation ) So here are my examples. I have to ask an excuse, cause my english isn't good. Good Maybe a year of two ago there was a band called 「xxx」is D£AD. When I heard this preview for the fist time, my thought was: What the hell? Whats the vocalist gender? At the same time I could imagine guy or manly girl singing this. Especially at 1:06. It still confuses me. The Gallo (ギャロ). Ultra trembling voice singing. Bad メメント・モリ(Memento Mori) The growling here sounds very dry and plain imo. Jap bands generally aren't good at growling. Depain The vocal in this song doesn't match the music. I mean the vocal is not powerfull, it doesnt suit the music (imo ofc.). The instrumental is so good. -

Well this is my first discussion topic, I haven't seen this kind of topic so I made it I know some of the member here love the doujin music! First this is the definition of what is doujin and doujin music for noob according to wikipedia (because I am too lazy lol) Usually this kind of music is published at bigger event like Comiket or M3 (Music Mix-Media Market), although it is also published at smaller event like Vocamas (Vocaloid Master), Reitaisai, or Touhou Kouroumu, etc. The group of people who made the doujin music is called Circle, although the circle is referred as a band or solo singer too, sometimes. The genre? Doujin music scene has a wide range of genre, from pop/rock, EDM, power metal, melodic death metal, indie rock, ambient, metalcore, post hardcore, trance, gothic, denpa, jazz, hip hop, bossa nova, classical, I think there is a possibility in any genre. In doujin music term, there is original and arrangement song (the most famous one is Touhou arrangement! ). Both are great, although I prefer to listen the original one because its originality makes more awesome! Post your favorite doujin circle/music here, and share your opinion how good the doujin music is! I will share my fave music soon. This thread can be used for upcoming release or other information related to doujin -

1 pointDemetori x UC is the vanguard of modern doujin for me. I fell off the wagon a while ago when a lot of my favorite circles disbanded, formed new bands outside of the scene to continue making the same music, or just started sucking. Will gladly take suggestions for bands that don't sound like total ass.

1 pointThe Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - It's insane to think that this film most likely had a smaller budget than An Unexpected Journey, because it's on a whole different level visually. It's not perfect, and I do expect much more from a director like Peter Jackson, but The Desolation of Smaug makes An Unexpected Journey look like a small budget film, and that's pretty fucking sad. The Desolation of Smaug is a geat film, and most of the changes from the book works very well, even though not all of them lives up to the standard of the book. But some are better than in the book. That's an adation for you. Just like it should be. The scenes in Dol Guldur is amazing, and the best part of the film. Amazing really. The meeting with Smaug is really well done as well, but Dol Guldur, man. Dol fucking Guldur! Stake Land - Cool, post-apocalyptic vampire horror on a rather low budget. The film ain't much more original than 98% of todays top 20 hiphop, so yeah, not original at all. But it's so well made, so well done and so cool that you'll forget all about that. Atmospheric and awesome horror on a low budget. Snowpiercer - I finally got to see this film (on cinema as well. Film festivals, man. <3). Joon-ho Bong never disappoints, and proves once again that he is among the best and most exciting directors in 2014. It's as simple as that. The setting is great, the atmosphere is amazing and the action is badass as fuck. Don't need much more than that to entertain me. And Kang-ho Song once again proves himself among the best actors in the world in 2014. What an actor, man! Heavenly. Simple as that. I'm happy that all the three "big" Korean directors succeeded in making great Hollywood debuts. Just as expected, but great nonetheless. 1. Stoker (8,5/10) 2. Snowpiercer (8/10) 3. The Last Stand (7,5/10)

It has quickly became one of my favorite Video game Sound Tracks of all time and the game is still in my best RPG's of the last console Generation list, and may very well be my favorite RPG on the PS3. This is pretty much another OST that I should probably upload here at some point, I'll get on that sooner or later XD -

1 pointLet me start with motherfucking 澤野弘之 (Hiroyuki Sawano). Everything this man touches turns to gold. He has composed for video games and dramas, but is most known for his anime compositions. His most recent (and known) works have been the OSTs for shows like Blue Exorcist, Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill and Gundam Unicorn. He often works together with the same singers, being mpi, Aimee Blackschleger, Mika Kobayashi and Cyua. Here are a few of my personal favourites: (from Gundam Unicorn) (from Attack on Titan) (also from Attack on Titan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNo0EhDhpBE (from Kill la Kill) I also really dig the OST from the Kingdom Hearts games, composed by Yoko Shimomura. I wasn't too fond of the OST of the past few Final Fantasy games, but I've heard that they recruited Shimomura to replace the composers of FFXIII to compose for Final Fantasy XV. The song OMNIS LACRIMA of said OST has already been released on her memorial album last month: I'll probably think of more later.
